Jennifer,
Colonial Dames 17th Century is an org., muich like the DAR.
Your have to be able to trace your lineage back to the 1600.
Being you have Louris Jansen Opdyck, you should have no problems.
If you are interested, let me know, and I will see what I can do to help. But email me privately at jmbug1@aol.com, putting Colonial Dames in subject line.
Are you a member of the DAR?

Jennie, Thanks for that information. I am using the same line as you did so I know it's a good one now. I appreciate your # also. I used my mother's line for my DAR patriot--William Calhoun. Also used that line for Daughters of Indian Wars, Daughters of Colonial Wars and Daughters of American Colonists. I have papers ready (just waiting for money) for the Updikes as my DAR supplements. It's good to meet another cousin, however distant we may be. Oh, I have a Harris line for UDC. What fun these are!

Hi Phil,
Thanks so much for the update. I am still wondering however....So Martha Ann Norval/Norville is also Sarah Updike? They are one in the same person? Since I have the name Martha Ann in my written record of the history the name Sarah has always been a puzzle? But the other information seems to all add up, so perhaps Martha simply went by Sarah for some reason???

Thank you for the info. on Benjamin being Martha/Sarah's 1st husband....Assuming that Martha/Sarah are indeed the same person here, I have Martha/Sarah and Benjamin's children listed as "H" (b-1828-KY), Anna Eliza "Sissy"(b-1830-KY.), and Peter (b-1833-KY.). Sissy married a James McDonald Day, Mar. 9 1847, Audrain County, MO. Sissy died June 1850 in MO.

I have Martha/Sarah and Caleb's children listed as: John H. (b-1837-MO.), Martha Fox (b-1838-MO.), Harriet Delila (b-1840-MO.), Asahel Linn, (b-1844-MO.). It also appears that Martha Fox (my GG Grandmother) also went by "Patsey"....Which I believe was a common nickname for Martha. Wish they would have used their given names...It sure would make researching them a lot easier ! Ha!

Hope this helps us put some more pieces into our related families puzzle! Thank you for your responses to my query....

Maureen Sorry I called you Martha. Was looking at the name on the message board.

The 1850 census for CALIP Williams shows him as a mail carrier He was married to Benjamins widow 6 Oct 1836
Benjamin died 1834 The census also shows both Updike
children as males The 1830 census shows 2 children one
a male and one a female both under age of 5 So I have to find out why 2 males and no female in the 1850.

Oh yes a Mike Morriessy has info on this. He is in touch with a Gary Williams who has much more info.
Morriesy will be found on the message boards Looking for Updike and others.

Phil

Martha, I have found what I have been looking for. BenjaminUpdike did die and Sarah remarried a Caleb Williams. The census report for 1850 shows her married to and living in Mo. The listing is under Calip Williams So here again a spelling mess up has diguised the trail.
It shows several children among them being a P. Updike and a H. Updike. Married license is also shown for her marrying
Williams So Caleb or Calip becomes interesting.

Here is some info that may help you research the Norville name.
A family member ofmine was Benjamin Updike/Updyke
He was born in 1801 in New Jersey. His father and mother
Major Updike moved to Franklin County Kentucky in 1803.

Benjamin is shown as marrying a Norval on 12 December 1825 Franklin Co. Ky. Benjamin is in the 1830 Franklin Co. Ky. census report. The name was spelled Updyke. The census taker assumed this spelling cause the whole family couldnt read or write. The correct spelling is Updike. This census report shows 2 children under age 5 amale and a female. You mention a child named Peter. This is interesting because one of Benjamins brothers was named Peter. Peter is my gr gr grandfather.

You can find marriage lic and census report through Ancestry .com or by going to the Salt Lake City geneaology
site

The spelling is important to note These names were very inconsistent during these days. Dont be too quick to conclude that Norville was the spelling used back in the 1800's.

I have not found info on Benjamin after the 1835 time frame.
Since you mention this lady as a widow perhaps that explains why I havent found any more info on Benjamin.

Hope this is helpful.... Phil I think I saw info that said his wife was Sally Ann.

Hello, in response to you posting, my great grandmother on my father's side was called ethel shave and she was from TN. All I have on her is that she was born in june 1894 and married Tom Wooden. Her second husband was charles(charlie whitehead). i'm still doing some research because in the 1930 census it lists her as margaret. all the information matches up with my grandpa in the census so I'm trying to figure out the name. middle name maybe? if you find anything else or if this was helpful in anyway please let me know. thank you

I noticed in the original post that you were looking for information on the children of Milly and William Updike. My GGgrandparents were Pleasant Austin Howell and Selina Updike. I have a handwritten family record listing the birth dates of Pleasant, Selina and their nine children along with Pleasant and Selina's marriage date and Selina's date of death. Because all of the handwriting is similar and it does record Selina's death date, I believe the document was penned by Pleasant Howell.

If you are interested in a copy of this, let me know.
