AVOCA - Mrs Bessie Milburn VanHousen died Monday at Tioga General Hospital in Waverly. She was 68 years old.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Leah Storch of Lockport; Three sisters, Mrs. Elmer Webb and Mrs. Fay Wessels of Avoca and Mrs. Mary Gray of Dansville; A brother, Oscar Updyke of Cohocton; several nieces and nephews.
The body is at the Sheppard-Van Patten Funeral Home in Avoca, where services will be held at 11 am Friday.
Burial will be in Lockwood Cemetery.

AVOCA - Mrs Bessie Milburn VanHousen died Monday at Tioga General Hospital in Waverly. She was 68 years old.

AVOCA - Dortha P. Sager, 83, of 29 N. Main St, died Thursday morning, Nov 10, 2005 at the Steuben County Health Care Facility in Bath, after a short illness.
Born in Avoca on Jul 9, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Oscar and Lila Squire Updyke. On Feb 2, 1946 she was married in Cohocton to Halsey L. Sager, who survives.
A resident of Avoca for most of her life, Dortha graduated from high school in Cohocton and from beauty school in Binghamton.
She was a homemaker and hairdresser.
Dortha was a 50 year member of the Avoca Order of Eastern Star she served as a volunteer at the Bath Veterans Administration Medical Center for 30 years and was also a member of the Home Bureau.
She enjoyed doing crafts, crocheting, cooking and canning, but most of all she will be remembered for always helping others.
Her family includes her husband for 59 years, Halsey; her two daughters, Judy (Richard) Noble of Bath and Jackie (Jim) Crane of Avoca; her two sons, Bruce (Susan) Sager and Kirk Sager (Kathy Wolfer) all of Bath; her eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; also her nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents, Dortha was predeceased by her sister, Barbara Margeson and her two brothers, William Updyke and James Updyke.
A memorial service was held at 2 pm Saturday at the Avoca United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Sande Thomas officiating.
Interment was in Highland Cemetery, Avoca.
Arrangements are with the Avoca Funeral Home.
