Hi I have pretty good reason to believe we are related through the Tees family. My grandmother was Lydia Tees,(her mother was Eliza Stazell) her brothers were Alfred and Charles Tees. She married John McGowan. My father is Al McGowan cousin to Jack and Joe Tees.
Illinois/Michigan Area - Harold David Upperman/Stone and Amoria Natalucci

I am looking for a particular gentleman named Harold David (1916 - 2002). Up to the Great Depression, his last name was Upperman. The story goes that he apparently thought it sounded "too Jewish" and thought they might be discriminated against. So he changed his last name to 'Stone'.

Later on he would marry Amoria Natalucci and have at least one son that I know of, named Greg Stone. Harold David was born in Chicago, Illinois and died in Grand Rapids, Michigan

It's been very difficult to find information about this gentleman. If anyone knows anything--I would appreciate any and all tips, no matter how small.

Thanks for the link to Rosanna Upperman Tees gravesite . I posted Barbara Upperman Kraft's death certificate to find-a -grave this past Jan. when I found out that her stone was still there .Here's the link for her find-a-grave ( Old St. Mary's ,Philly ) : http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=Kr...;.

I will get Rosanna's obit to you later . I posted Charles after this reply.

I was looking on the ancestry databases to see if anyone actually made a family group tree for the complete Adam Upperman family .

Did anyone ever find him in the 1790 Philly census ??

I think Elizabeth Upperman was born in 1757 ( not 1751 ), btw . Looking for where I have her birthdate in my files.

Holly

Hi Holly,
Thanks for your reply. I would love to have Rosanna's obituary. By any chance, do you have access to her husband Charles? Here is a photo of their tombstone at Palmer Cemetery:

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=te...;

It is a bit difficult to read, but I believe that it says "Our Father and Mother, Charles Tees Born May 6, 1801 Died July 7, 1870 (and) Rosanna Tees (unreadable)."

Also, you may already have this but here is the death cert for Barbara: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/J6S4-HYK

Good luck in your continued research.

Kathryn

Hi Kathryn ,
Nice to hear from another Upperman researcher ! The thing that mystifies me about the family is the various religious denomination. Barbara Upperman Kraft is buried in Old St. Mary's cemetery ( 4th Street ?) .I just wrote to Old St. Mary's to get the baptismal of their 7 children. She died 7 Sept 1869 in Philadelphia . I have a picture of her tombstone ( which unfortunately only has her married name and death date ) . But her husband was Lutheran. I believe they were married at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran but I need to get those records to confirm further the 27 Sept 1808 marriage date.

What does Rosanna's tombstone say ??Do you want her obituary ?? I think I have it .

Holly

Hi Holly,
Your Barbara and my Rosanna were sisters. Rosanna (7/31/1801-9/13/1886) married Charles Tees (5/6/1801-7/7/1870) . They are buried at Palmer Cemetery in N.Liberties. I have a photo of their tombstone. Perhaps your Barbara is also buried there. Their parents were Adam Upperman (1757-7/29/1835) and his wife Elizabeth (1751-10/1/1837). No maiden name is known for her. I wrote to the city of Philadelphia for Adam's death cert. They verified his death but were unable to locate the actual death cert. Elizabeth's death cert states that place of birth is unknown but believed to be Philadelphia. She was 86 and died of paralysis. I have some information on Adam, including his service during the Revolutionary War. If you would like more information, please write to me at "giverny.twosix@verizon.net."

Kathryn Becek

I know nothing about my Upperman family, except that my great grandmother was an Upperman. I am pretty sure I found her in the 1880 Pittsburgh Census, listed as Lilly, daughter of Charles and Maria Upperman. She had an older brother named Charles and a younger sister Mary. Her father was born about 1841 and his father was born in Pennsylvania, his mother in Wales. Her mother's parents were born in England. Charles' occupation is listed as being a glassblower.

Lillian married Samuel Wallace and had three children, Samuel, Charles Russell (my grandfather) and Lillian. My grandfather had a cousin May Upperman who was sent to France to learn to paint china, which she did professionally. I have two of her plates.

Does anyone know anything about my branch of the Upperman family? We were also all born and reared in Pittsburgh, PA.

If you are still out there: A Henry Nagle(Nogle) married my great grandmother Eliza Shuckhart(Beck). This Henry was son of Andrew Nagle and Catherine Diering. A sister to Louisa nagle (born March 4, 1858 - She is shown living with her daughter - Emma Lula Nagle who married Frank Upperson. They had Myrtle and Elbertean Upperson. This shows up on two census records with Louisa living as Mother- in Law 72 years old and 62 years old.

Hi,
most of my Upperman's are in Ohio, though the census for Albert says his parents were born in Pennsylvania. He was born in 1852 and by the 1860 Census he was living with a F. Valentine.

Hi, my great-grandmother's name was Clara Anna Upperman. She married Roy Bikle and died during the birth of her first child on July 1, 1910. Her offspring was my grandfather, Charles Leroy Bikle. I have a photograph of Clara's father holding Charles and on the back of the photo is written Waynesboro, PA (which is in Franklin County). I will try and find out his name, but Clara's death record may help you. The Upperman's helped to raise my grandfather as his father Roy was in WW1 and back when he first gave me the photo, my grandfather told me his grandfather was very kind. Hope this helps you get started!

I am also researching for some Upperman's. My great-great grandfather was Albert Upperman and according to the 1880 census his parents were born in Pennsylvania. He ended up in Stark County, Ohio. Albert was born in 1852/53. I have a lot of info from this end of the family and a picture of Albert & Mary (Riedel) Upperman. I just thought that there might be a connection.
Bonnie (Mather) Woodman
Coopersville, MI
jrw03@hotmail.com

I am trying to find my relatives. I am looking for: the following : they were the children of Solomon Long and Mar Postlewait . Rollin Long born 1802/23 in PA ( found in 1850 Licking Ohio census at age 27 living with Solomon & Mary Long. Not the Rollin long listed in 1850 Ohio census at age 29 married to Wlizabeth. These are two different people. I am also looking for his sister Philo listed in the 1850 Ohio Licking census at age 23 born 1826/27. Can't find them past 1850. Can find only the Rollin married to Elizabeth. Don't know who they married or where they went to.
Also looking for two more children: either children of Solomon and Mary Long or of one of Solomon's brothers being raised by Solomon and Mary. They are Rancilor Long born abt 1842 and Mahala born about 1844. They suddenly showed up on the 1860 Ohio census when they weren't on the 1850 (and should have been). Can you help? Are we related to the same family line.
Sincerely
kate

Upperman/ Vipperman - any connection?

My name is Karen and I am working on the Vipperman line. In my research, I have come across a couple Uppermans and am wondering if by chance they could be part of my Vipperman line. I have a John Upperman who was found in the 1810 and 1820 Jefferson County Virginia census then he disappears. Also I have found a Frederick Upperman in the 1850 Ohio Co., Virginia census then I cant find him anymore. I have no birth years for these two men. Our family legend is that when the 1st Vipperman came to America from Germany, he came with 2 cousins, a William and a Frederick. This Frederick Upperman is the closest that I can find to the Vippermans. I know that names have been changed by the census takers and the familys. The first record of George Vipperman, his name was spelled Wiperman. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Heather,
I'm sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you. I put my research aside for awhile and decided I'd better contact everyone now. You said you had info on Jacob & Rachel Coldsmith Upperman. I have that they had 5 children. My maiden name is Upperman and Jacob was my Great, Great, Great-Grandfather. I descend from his son Joseph S.Upperman. Joseph had a son Samuel Garfield Upperman. He had a son Samuel Hollis Upperman (my grandfather). You said that Helen Diffenderfer was an Upperman (your
grandmother). How does she fit in? Please feel free to contact me back. Ipromise not to take so long the next time. I have all of Joseph's and Samuel's children, etc. Thank you,
Kim
