Generally speaking, if not totally, the Uptons of
the United States are descendants of two John Uptons.
The first John came to the Isle of Wight, Virginia before
1650. He married a Margaret Lucas and they had 5 children
that I can identify. The second John Upton came to the Salem Massachusetts
area and married Eleanor Stuart. They had 14 children between 1654 and
1666. 3 died in childhood. I come from this group. The descendnts of John of Massachusetts
are mostly what we would consider "Yankees". The descendants of John of Virginia appear to settle in mostly
the southern parts of the United states. Over the last four
centuries there have been some of the "Yankees" Uptons that have settled in the
South and vice versa. I have some fairly good documentation on the first seven generations of
the "Yankee" Uptons that take us to about 1872. The Yankee branch has fairly good
documentation located at familysearch.com. This is the LDS
or Mormon site. My desire is to create a website showing the approximate
3000 names in these 7 generations. I am about a 1/3 way through creating this
information and then the challenge of figuring out an appropriate website
scenario. If you want to contact me personally I can be reched at 801-277-7431. Note that I have had a life long
hearing impairment so I may or may not stumble a bit on the
phone. Patience please.
