Looking for info on Chester Arthur Urban married to Elizabeth Unknown, they were in Mishawaka, MD in 1947, I don't know how long they were there except that it was probably after 1944.
Chester would have been about 62 years old. I do not know anything about Elizabeth, but she would have been his third wife.

Ludwick Urban of Conestoga Township, Lancaster County, PA was married to a "Dorothea". She is bequeathed in his last will and testament as his Present Wife. Last name of Dorothea unknown. Ludwick Urban created his Will in March of 1811, so Veronica Evena Stehman, his first wife, must have died before that time.

Hi Carol...Did you ever find any additional info on Joseph H Urban married to Elizabeth H Wissler? I have been searching for over one year and I can't find his mother or father. I believe on his marriage application to Elizabeth, he states his father is Joseph J Urban and mother is Ann Urban. I do have Joseph H Urban's obituary, but it does not include his parents. Just says he was a life-long resident of Conestoga Township. His daughter, Angeline married to Charlie Martin was my Great Grandmother and I have also been searching for info on her death and burial site. The Conestoga United Methodist Church has been referring me to different people for over one year and still no answers. Let's keep in touch. Nancy of Lancaster County, PA.

Trying to dig deeper into my great-grandmother's story and her family. Her name was Julianna Urban, born Jan 15 1890 in Hungary, died Feb 06 1957 in Perth Amboy, Middlesex, New Jersey. She married George John Fazekas on Oct 25 1913 in Perth Amboy, NJ.

Her parents (where my information ends) were Andrew (Andras) Urban and Julianna Pasztor.

I would love to hear more about these families if any of this rings a bell.

Thank you,
Preston

Re: william c.urban

Do you have any location [state/country] where this family lived and possibly an idea of the dates [years] that they lived or died? William is a pretty common name so to make it easier to do research some further information would be needed. For instance, there is a Wm C Urban b. CA 6/21/1901 d.9/11/1977 listed in the CA death notices. There is a Wm C Urban listed in the Ancestry Obituary Daily Times index in a LA newspaper. Also found a Wm C Urban listed in the Wisconsin Biography Project. If you do an Ancestry search http://search.ancestry.com/search/ with just the name and no locations or dates you will see there are quite a few different William C Urban listings.
Hope this suggestion helps you in your research.

Hello, I'm Wayne S. Urben. I just might be the greatgrandson of Alfred Urben who appears to have emmigrated from Switzerland in 1891, when he was only 16!
My greatgrandmother was probably Elsbeth Hefti, who emmigrated from Switzerland in 1897. If all this is correct we may be able to help each other.
I've only been here 1 week and I've already found more info than I expected to find in a year!

John Urban, Sr.

Walsh Heritage, ND Vol 2 page 1058-1059
JOHN URBAN, Sr. - bio
John URBAN was born in Vlcetin, Czechoslovakia in 1857. He came to the United States when he was 18 years old. He came to Spillville, Iowa, to his sister: Mrs. HOUSER, who had come to the United States a few years before. He worked for a farmer in Iowa for 1 year, learning the English language at the same time. Then he went to work on the railroad in South Dakota.

He first came to Dakota in 1880. He filed a homestead claim about two miles west of Vesleyville. Then he went back to South Dakota to work on the railroad.

He returned again in 1881. By this time all the land around Vesleyville was taken up, so he filed on a homestead about 2 miles west of Pisek. Another man claimed he had filed on the same land. They went to court and John lost the case. Later he was glad as the land turned out to be of a swamp with sour grass on it. So back he went to the railroad in South Dakota.

In 1882, he came back, still hungry for land. He took up land four miles south of Lankin.

In 1883 hemarried Kathryn BENEDA. She was born Difcikipi, Czechoslovakia and came to dakota with her parents the year before. They were married in the Catholic Church in Vesleyville.

They had four children:
Mary Urban married Jacob HODNY and raised 11 children
Annie Urban married Albert MRACEK, moved to Druid, Sask.
John Jr Urban married Christina STEJSKAL
Rosie Urban married Albert HARAZIM

Walsh Heritage, ND Vol 2 Page 1058-1059
Duh, it seems all my info has run together. Susan (Susie) Literal (Littrell) Smith, was my grandmother. Her mother was Mary C. (Urban) Littrell who parents were Cassander and Susannah Landtroop Urban. I left out the middle generation here when I replied to your note. I apologize, but I have about 5000 names in my computer now on relatives that are connected to southern Lawrence Co., TN and northern Alabama. That means your Susie Urban and my Mary C. were sisters?

Re: Roman Urban-Chicago

Did your end attend St. Stanislaus Church. Catholic. There are so many Urban's and Urabanski's out of that church and I am convinced many were related some how. The question is how.
MY end:
My grand father Frank was married to a Anna Kloss and they lived on Wisner in West Town. Had 4 boys, Roman, married to Mary Ostrowski in 1900, Frank, Peter ( never married ) and Andrew. Most likely repeating a few things here.
Roman Had a cousin John that had a drug store on Milwaukee Ave. There was a Joseph Urban that lived on Blackhawk which is beleived to be either Roman's brother or a cousin. Haven't really figured that out yet. Joseph was the god father to my father. Frank also had sister's Mary and Pauline. Mary married a Kuffel and Pauline a Dombrowski.
I have no idea where Frank came in this country because I can't find anything. Came in some where around 1873 + or -.
Have found no indication of the ski on the last part of the name if it was shortened or not. My Roman's father Frank was born in Nov 15, 1852 in Poland/ Germany. What part I have no clue.

Beleive Parents of Frank Urban may have been Elizabeth and Ignatz. They are buried at St. Boniface in Chicago. The lot there consist of 5 people Ignatz, Elizabeth and appears three of their children Elizabeth, Ignatz and Paul. Last one buried there was in 1926.

All these Urban's are very confusing.

The family in Palatine are not far. I am in Rolling Meadows.
Reading your queries from March of 2005 it sure does seem to be a connection here.

To make life a little easier you can e-mail at dpjurban@yahoo.com. Don't get any from Ancestry if you answer.

Hi;

Sorry, I do not have the address you are looking for. I am also looking for Urbans from the same town. My greatgrandmother was Zuzsanna Urban. She had brothers named George, Michael and I believe John. She came to the US in 1905 as a single mother with a 4 year old daughter named Anna and left her 7 year old son, Andreas, in Slovakia with her family. I have 2 reels of church records at our local LDS for HANUSOVCE NAD TAPLOU. I am unable to find entries that I think should be in them. The ones I have end in 08 and 09. (I don't have my papers with me at the moment). We have ordered the census records from 1869. Do you know of any other's I could order? The Urbans in my family were Roman Catholic. Thanks for your help. Something that may help you - I joined a group led by Juraj Cisarik from Kosice, Slovakia. He may be able to answer your question. Here is his web site address: http://www.cisarik.com/

Thanks,
Sandy

Thanks, Priscilla! It is very interesting that Susan Littrell was Susanna Landtroop's daughter because my great-grandmother, who was also a daughter of Susanna Landtroop, was also named Susan, although she went by Malisa -- Susan Malisa Stutts. I believe I once met another sister, Margaret, but I was only a small child. I don't remember her last name or where she lived. Are you familiar with her?

I will be back in Lawrence County sometime during the next couple of months.

Pam

Re: Francis Urban (1848-1936) & Marie Pester (1855-1921)

I'm a descendant in a volga german line. If you're not entirely sure of where Frances Urban's from this may be a lead as I know there were many volga communities in Kansas up until about the baby boomer generation. The volgas left Germania (Germany before it became Germany was called this) and went to Russia during the rule of Katherine the Great. They were mainly middle class people (like black smiths and such). They moved to Russia to farm after recieving an invite from Katherine the Great. They were promised good farm land, no taxes, and that the men would never have to join the military. They found the land wasn't good along the volga river where they lived. They overcame many obstacles, like famine and such, quickly learning to farm. After Katherine the Great's rule ended, the Russian government started forcing the men to join the military and forcing the people to pay taxes. So in the 1800's they came to the US and as always settled in their own communities, speaking volga speak (a mixture of Russian and German, and not marrying outside of the volga line until the baby boomer generation. I'm pretty sure neither Frances, nor her parents are from my line, my grandma doesn't know them, and they're not in my ancestors book. My line is catholic, maybe you'll have success looking into the protestant volga lines.

Hello, Wayne, I know exactly how you feel. I've only been at this a couple years, but I find new things all the time. Tell me more about your line.

My tie into the Urben's is a bit distant, through Elsbeth Hefti Urben (Alfred's wife). I believe her to be the daughter of Elsbeth Jenny Hefti and the cousin of my great-grandfather, Jacob Jenny. Jacob immigrated to the U.S. in 1883 from Sool, Canton Glarus, Switzerland and settled in Milwaukee, WI, living for a time with Elsbeth Urben's and Jacob's aunt, Barbara Jenny Stanz. My g-great-grandfather's name was Johannes (he stayed in Switzerland, as did, I believe, Elsbeth Urben's mother).

I have some photographs I can share of Elsbeth Urben from the 1930's when my Jenny family visited her on a family farm in Dane/Green Co., and I visited Alfred's and her gravesite last summer in Mt. Vernon, WI. I have some information about my swiss relatives here in the U.S., but really hit a wall about their life in Switzerland.

Anyway, I'd like to share more.

Laura Jenny Sill

I am the great grandson of Anton Urban of St. Joseph/Clyde (Cloud County) Kansas. I have a fairly extensive geneology on my part of the family after they got to the US but nothing prior to that. If I am your "Anton" I would be more than happy to share what I have.

DON URBAN

Hi there. I just came across your thread. Although I am not a relative of the Urban family, my great aunt Marion Cwikla and her husband Stanely of Chicago were very good friends with Frank and Ann Urban who lived in Chicago on Palmer St. Annie as we called her came to all of my family's weddings, showers and other celebrations. My aunt passed away in 2002 but our fond memories of Annie and Frank remainin our hearts. Shortly before Frank passed I went to visit my parents in Chicago. Dad and I brought Ann and Frank to my aunt's house for a visit - they had so much fun but I know Frank was struggling with alzheimers or dementia pretty badly at the time. It was such a joy though to bring those old friends together in person. It is also my understanding that Ann's brother owned a tavern by Lublin, WI called Charlie's way back when. My grandfather and grandmother's families are both from the Lublin/Thorp area so if anyone wants to share stories and photos let me know. Thanks.

My grandmother was Mary Pearl Urban and her family lived in Buffalo. An aunt told me she had a brother Andrew and Charles and there was another brother whose name may have been Leon and a sister Eleanor. One of the brothers was supposed to have published the first Polish language newspaper in Buffalo. Think there is any connection?
