I am trying to find out any information on the Ure family from Kingscavel Scotland also. The family I am looking for may be the family David Ure had with Jane Scott. Did the family immigrate to Canada around 1926? I am specifically looking for Jean and/or Jessi Ure (sisters) who arrived in Quebec aboard the Metagama on or around that time. They then moved out to Alberta. Possibly around the Lethbridge area. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Gordon

I am tracing a relative Lochlin/Lachlin or Loughlan Ure born around 1740 who appears in Sussex in 1762. Family legend has it he sailed from Inverness about 1760 but I think it might have been Bo'ness given the importance of the port at that time and the number of Ures in the Stirling area. Have you uncovered any Lochlins etc?

Thew as a Loughlin Ure born at Kippen in 1737 but we dont have a positive connection from him to Sussex. Any light you can shed apprecieted.

Re: Ure in Dublin

Hi

I suspect you already have the information I have managed to glean in just one day, but nevertheless here it is.

Well, my grandfather was an Alexander Ure and, having looked at the census data of 1911, it seems that he lived in Finglass, Dublin at this time. If this was my grandfather, of which I am not sure, he was 25 at the time which means he was born around 1886. My father, William, was born in 1922 which fits the dates.

The census indicates that he lived with his 2 sisters, Annie (27) and Elizabeth(23). Interestingly and frustratingly, he also lived with his mother ( Martha (50)) and his step father Joseph (45) both with surname O,Keeffe.
Which means that I don't as yet know who Alexander's father was, or what happened to him - died, divorced?

It seems that Alexander and his two sisters kept their religion - Church of Ireland and that Martha either converted or was always a catholic. Joseph O'Keeffe was also a catholic.

Alexander was famed for his hatred of catholics and this living arrangement may have had something to do with it

I am now waiting to see if Alexander appears on the 1901 census, if it appears. Martha and Joseph had been married 5 years in 1911, so if there is any information from 1901, it may help me trace my GGGf.

Have you got anything for me? And why are you looking for Ures in Dublin?

It may be easier to mail me at roekr_ragna@yahoo.co.uk as I check that more often than this site.

Regards,

Alex

Hi there
I guess this means we are related. My great great great grandfather was William Jamieson. He was a son of Robert Jamieson, carter in Banknock and Janet Ure. The reasons for his not being baptised may be that this is missing from the register or even that he was illegitimate since his parents are not named in his marriage banns in 1825. His death certificate in 1880 gives Robert and Janet as his parents. WIlliam had three sons and two daughters. I am descended from Alexander the second of his sons. I have been unable to locate the marriage of Robert and Janet. I wondered what had happened to the rest of their children.
Cheers Jane

Does anyone have any information about a Ure family in Dublin?
I have recently uncovered a Mary Anne Ure, born approx. 1857, the daughter of Alexander Ure and also seems to have a had a brother of the same name. They were likely Presbyterians.

Ure is a very uncommon name - only one in the whole Dublin telephone directory! I wonder did the family come from Scotland?

Any help greatly appreciated.

URE, William/John/Eliza, Scotland to NY, USA 1820

Hi, All -

I believe I have located the first "Ure" in my direct line to have immigrated from Scotland to the US, but so far it is just a hunch and I am looking for more documentation to either confirm or deny. If anyone has anything to link/support/disprove, etc., please add - every little bit helps!

Anyway, my ggggg(I think!)grandfather was William Ure, who died in/near Westchester, NY, circa 1842. He was married to a Susan Drake, and they had at least one son, Hosea.

I have William and Susan in the 1840 census as both being "over 20 but less than 30" years old, which gives them estimated birthdates between 1811-1819. However, I also found a list of passengers of the ship, Camillus, that landed in New York, NY, sometime in the 2nd quarter of 1820, which lists a William Ure, age 4. That would give him a d.o.b. of abt. 1816 - which would make him the correct age for "my" William of the 1840 census. It is by no means a "perfect" match, but it is the best I have been able to find so far.

Also listed on that passenger list was a sister (I am assuming) to William named Eliza Ure, who was aged 6 (d.o.b. circa 1814), as well as a one-year-old brother named John Ure (d.o.b. abt 1819). They were traveling with (again, I assume) their mother, also named Eliza. Her age is listed as 40 at the time, making her d.o.b. circa 1780.

There are McPhersons, McCullums, and McKees listed as passengers on this ship (along with a few other surnames), but no other Ures, so I have no idea what the father's name was. The passenger list I found does not even indicate where the ship originated - only that all the passengers "belonged" to Scotland and "intended" to become inhabitants of the USA.

I have not been able to find anything else linking a John Ure of the correct d.o.b. nor either Eliza to my William, nor does William or his wife, Susan, show up again other than in that once census. As I stated before - any help proving/disproving my theory of the two Williams being one and the same, or adding any other information to John, Eliza, or Eliza (or even Susan Drake, or the origin of the Ure/McKee/McPherson/McCullum families, for that matter) - would be GREATLY appreciated. I am happy to share whatever I have in return.

Can anyone please identify if this Mrs George Radcliffe was maiden-named Ure?
She is the mother of Judge George W Radcliffe of Detroit Michigan.
Was she 1st or 2nd wife to George?
I believe she came after George was married to Mary Ann Arnald Radcliffe.
Mary Ann, mother to Henry Radcliffe & my great great grandmother, purportedly died young in 1866, but I can not find anywhere for sure if this Mrs. George came first or second.
Hi, I have only just started searching my dad's side of family tree, and I have only a little info so far, but my great grandmother was a Janet Ure (c. 1880) (married a William Young in 1896,Polmont). Her parents were a Robert Ure and Janet White (not got birth certs yet!). From what I can tell, my relations are all from the same area as your families, and they were all coal miners, so perhaps also some same relations.
The son of William Young and Janet Ure was my grandfather - Robert Ure Young (1901); he married a Helen Hope Buchanan who died age 24. He then married my gran Mary Millar (1905) who was born in Muiravonside.
Any info that might be relavant would be much help!

Their son William Broomfield Ure (06/02/1914 born Fairlie Park Drive Partick, Glagow) married my fathers sister Joyce Brown. I was a bridesmaid at their wedding in 1957. I believe Margaret is buried in Kelso cemetery and that she was a housekeeper to a vicar and used her maiden name.James was a spirit salesman.
Robert Jamieson and Janet Ure also had a son called William who was not baptised. However his death certificate in 1880 gives his parents as Roebert Jamieson, carter in Denny Parish and Janet Ure. William was married in 1825 to Helen Kidd in Banknock, Denny Parish. At that time his occupation was miner but he became a maltman and moved to Glasgow between 1832 and 1834. They had several children - 2 born in Banknock and the rest born in Glasgow.

Hello,

i believe Donald Ure married Margaret Davidson in 1914 at Kingston in Surrey.

I have in my possession E G DAVIDSON ’s photo album from around 1910 , which contains photos of several people and families, the photos are said to be Stowe Lodge at Wimbledon and a few from Worthing, West Sussex.

One photo relates to Maggie as 'now Mrs D. N. Ure'

For Stowe Lodge, we have the Davidson family , consisting of Mother & father ( believed to be JAMES & EMILY ) and children ANNE , MAGGIE , WILL, ETHEL.

Also at Stowe we have a PHIL GOLDBY ,

On Wimbledon Common we have a DOROTHY NEWLAND.

And punting ( no location given ) we have FRANK and NELLIE TAYLOR.

Other people mentioned but no location given are Harold McGeorge , Miss McGeorge ( also listed as Aunt Fanny) Gertie Poland , Little Nurse with Jeremy Sass,

The Worthing photos seem to be of The Poland family ..

If anyone is researching / or has connections with the Wimbledon Davidsons then please get in touch.

Hello Stan, thank you for replying to my thread on Ancestry in regards to Donald Ure & Margaret Davidson,

I am not actually researching Ure or the Davidsons but have in my possession an old photo album from 1908 belonging to E. G. Davidson whom I assume to be Margaret’s brother .. it contains lots of family pictures of the Davidsons from around that time.. and their friends .. most of which are of Margaret and Ethel. and it is my intention to try and return copies of these photos to all the families listed as this album is strong evidence of friendships and family connections..

Obviously you must be interested in your family history otherwise you would not have been on the family history website, you mention that you have family photos from around 1960 but do you have anything in regard to 1908 .. especially Margaret’s family??? .. if you send me and email to oldhistory@hotmail.co.uk I will gladly send you scanned images of the whole album for your records.. either via email or through the post on disc.

Assuming that we are talking about the same Davidson family .. then there are photos of your Great grandma & Great grandfather.

So does Stowe Lodge in Wimbledon mean anything to you? I only ask as a lot of the pictures are at Stowe Lodge.

Thank you so much for getting in touch..

All the best,

James

Hi Dot
I am sure we might well have a link. I think your Edward Ure is the son of Agnes Keenan who was born in Glasgow 1875. Agnes married James Ure, and in the 1901 census she is listed at 7 Cedar Place Glasgow with her father Edward aged 54 husband James 27 son James aged 1 and son Edward aged 3.
I think this is the Edward that you have in your details.
