One bit of information that I do have is that during the war he was in England and did get married and had a son and a daughter but when he came back to Canada they did not come with him.
I would be happy to research this further with you and maybe determine if in fact we are half brother and sister.

Isabella and Euphemia are probably not connected as Euphemia was born in Haddington. However many of the Urquharts moved south during the Highland Clearances so there may be a tenuous connection some way back. If any further information comes to light I will definitely let you know. I found more Urquhart descendants by joining the Clan Urquhart Association of Australia. These sort of organisations can also be very useful.

I am trying to trace what happened to both of this couple.
Arthur was born in Sunderland circa 1859 and was still living in the area in the 1901 census aged 41.
Elizabeth who was born in Gloucestershire [nee Swainger] married Arthur in 1884, at the local Register Office. She was also living with Arthur in 1901. It is thought that she was also alive in 1923. However I am unable to trace their deaths and would welcome any assistance.
Regards David

Hi, I too have an Urquhart connection in australia but it is an Issabella Urquhart from Inverness, Scotland Born:abt 1822 her parents where John Urquhart & Mary Williams.

Isabella first married Frederick William Rosser (in Tasmania I think)Then she married John Bright from Ludlow, Shropshire, England on the 24th Sept 1853 in South Geelong, Victoria, Australia - I believe that all three of these people may have been transported to Tasmania and moved to Victoria when they where free.

I know this probably won't help you but if you come across any connections or info don't hesitate to contact me
Donna Marie
Victoria Australia

(The regular project price for the Y-DNA37 is $149, and for the Y-DNA37+mtDNA is $248 – a reduction
of more than 50%!!)
• The promotion will begin on June 9, 2009 and will end on June 24, 2009
• Kits ordered in this sale must be paid for by June 30, 2009

You can join the FamilyTreeDNA project through the Urquhart surname group's webpages at http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Urquhart/default.aspx

You can order your test on-line, and pay for the test on-line using a credit card. Test kits are mailed to your home, the inside of the cheek is scrapped by a Urquhart male family member, and the test kit is mailed back to the lab. All very convenient.

If you have an interest in DNA testing, now would be the opportune time to get tested.

How lucky you are to have exact birth dates. Here's a great website for researching Scottish ancestors: http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ This is a pay-per-view website, but very inexpensive. They have civil vital records starting at 1855. Once you learn the parent's names from the boy's birth records, you can then get the parent's marriage record to learn their parent's names. With the exact place of birth, you could go over to your local Morman church that includes a family history center, and order microfilm of Scottish church records so you can fill out the rest of the family. Be sure to let the board know what you have found.

Earl,

I was looking for the death of George Urquhart, the husband of Christina McLean Urquhart that you mention who died in 1866, but I could not locate it. I guess he died between 1851-1855. I would have liked to learn who his parents were.

Scotland's People says: Kenneth Urquhart, tenant, husband of Helen Ross, died March 23, 1872 at Invercarron, age 77 years, son of John Urquhart, tenant, deceased, and Christina Cameron, deceased. Cause was old age. Informant was John Urquhart, brother.

The Kincardine microfilm has: John (probably the informant above), lawful son to John Urquhart and Christain Cameron at Grunyard, born 12th, bap. 15th January 1806; and Jannet, lawful daughter to John Urquhart and Christain Cameron at Grunyard, born 20th, bap. 25th November 1808.

Unfortunately, John Urquhart and Christain/Christina Cameron do not live past 1855, in order to get a death record with parents names.

I have gotten a couple of cemetery publications from the Highland Family History Society for the CHapel Yard at Inverness and the St. Clement's Churchyard in Dingwall. They do bot seem to have a transcription for a cemetery in Kincardine Parish. Do you know of one that exists.

Craig

Earl,

This is interesting. Thank you. Do you have a death record for Kenneth Urquhart in 1872 at age 77 in Kincardine? I am wondering if Kenneth's, or any other death records you have, show the parents as Donald Urquhart and Janet Graham. I believe Kenneth's wife was Helen Ross Urquhart who died Jan. 28, 1881 at age 92 at Invercarron, daughter of William Ross and Isabella Ross.

Alot of Urquharts show up in Kincardine baptizing children, and there is no marriage record for these parents.

The Christina McRae Urquhart that you have dying in 1866 is baptizing son Robert in 1816. Says they are from Ryantire. But there is no marriage between her and John in the Kincardine records. And, there is no way to learn who her
husband John's parents were. Frustrating.

Thank you, again.

Craig

Earl,

A question, if I may. Did you download a few specific records from Scotland's People, or lots of Urquhart records, or lots of Kincardine records?

I obtained the death record for Donald Urquhart who died March 23, 1857 at Baddarrach, Kincardine Parish, son of Donald Urquhart and Janet Graham. He was born c1791 in Kincardine. I am now reading the Kincardine Parish birth and marriage records on microfilm, and there are lots of Urquharts, and therefore alittle difficult to connect all these folks. I thought I would find Donald Urquhart and Catharine MacKay's marriage c1828, but I did not. I am finding there children's info.

I could use alittle help connecting all these Urquharts.

Best regards.

Craig

Your grandfather had Three brothers, Jessie the
oldest, followed by sister Willie, then came my Daddy
Albert, a year later Samuel our Uncle Sam as we know him
a few years later came the youngest brother Sowden, then
came the baby Aunt Elvie. I could recite family history to
you all day. Heard that you were engaged I wish you happy.

I'm looking for ancestors of John and Murdo(ch) Urquhart. Both were born in the Gairloch area, John on 13 June 1881 and Murdo(ch) on 13 February 1885. Both brothers were still in Scotland in 1901, but I was told by my late mother that they emigrated in the early years of the 20th c. Where they went is a complete mystery, although Canada could well be one possibility.
