Hi! I found this message board by accident and I want to contribute from this part of the Caribbean to this message board.
My grandfather and great-grandfather were born here in Puerto Rico in a southern town called Lajas. My grandfather is Hector L. Urrutia Silva and his father was Luis Gonzaga Urrutia Hernandez de la Motta. But my great great grandfather came to Puerto Rico with the Spanish army as an Official. his name was Rodulfo Urrutia Llopiz and he was born in Guipuzcoa, Spain. He settled in
Añasco, which is another town in the south very near Lajas.
My cousin is very into genealogy and he has found a lot about Urrutia.
First, is means "from afar". It is a toponimic (?) name. It meant the people out of the town, they lived far from it.
Guipuzcoa is in the Provincias Vascas, north part of Spain. It also means that not all Urrutias from Spain are related.
There is an address in geo cities where you can find a lot about Urrutia. It is:www.geocities.com/blasones/urrutia.html
Well I hope this is interesting information for someone.
