Look forward to your reply.

Larry Johnstone

John Uschold , Germany/1850

I am trying to locate information on John Uschold and Teressa Long. They were both from Germany - John born in July,1850 and Teressa in 1855. They married ( date unknown) and had three children-Albert, Martin and Joseph before leaving Germany. They arrived in Bruce County, Ontario, Canada in 1883 and then settled in Laurier Township in Ontario, Canada in 1885. It's believed Teressa's Long Family may have followed. They died in Trout Creek, Ontario. We are not sure but they may be from the Bavarian area around Altenstadt. Would really appreciate help with this. Thanks.
Your message Michelle was very interesting about your relationship to John Oshell and Theresa Long. Is their homestead in Laurier Township still standing? I understand the family had settled in Chepstow, Ontario before heading for Laurier Township. Do you have any records to show when they arrived in Canada and where (what port)?Do you know if Theresa's hometown in Germany was Altensteinreuth, the same as John's, or was it another town? I am trying to research their German ancestors as well as the date they were married and where in Germany the marriage took place. Please let me know what records you may have ---I would really appreciate that.

Thank you -- Larry Johnstone.

Hi Michelle:

You said John and Anna had five children -- I think I am missing one -- I have Monica, Mervin, Cecil, Emma and who?
Mervin was married to Rita and I understand she is still living in Powassan. I received an e-mail from her son Peter who I understand operates a store in Powassan. You said your grandparents were Emma and Frank Grasser and what were your parents names? Are you located in Trout Creek?
To make it easier you can reply to me at my e-mail ---
larryj1778@yahoo.ca and maybe I can fill you in on the info I have on the Oshell Family -- although it looks like you have gathered quite a bit already.
Thanks - Larry.

Charlotte Meiser, wife of Casper Unschold, is one of six Meiser siblings who immigrated to Pittsburgh between 1865 and 1880. I have their birth records and some information that ties them together in Pittsburgh. I would be happy to share and am interested in the immigration details for Casper and Charlotte.

The people you are looking for are John Sr. Oshell and Theresa Long. To me they would be my great great grandparents. They did settle in Laurier Township which is only a couple minutes away from Trout Creek. You see they had 9 children in total. Five boys and four girls. Albert, Martin, Joseph, John jr. , Margaretin, Isaac, Pauline, Elizabeth, and Mary. One of their boys John Jr, would be my great grandfather. Because Him and his wife Annie Shumacher had five children and one of those girls is my grandmother Emma Oshell, who married Francis(Frank) Grasser. I have a small Family tree of this family.

I do not have much information of their life in Germany unfortunately. This is what I have though. They settled in the Trout Creek area in 1885, they Chose a place in Laurier Township. They travelled by railway as far as Gravenhurst. Than from there by oxen.
They had four boys when they arrived. John(born in Chepstown in 1884), Albert(1878), Martin(1879), and Joe(1881).

Then they had five more children. Margaret(1886), Isac(1888), Pauline(1890), Elizabeth(1892), and Mary(1894).

The original homestead is still standing. I beleive their son JohnJr and his wife purchased it from them. Than their daughter Emma and her husband Frank (my grandparents) purchased it from them. I know they raised their children there. They did sell it because they moved to Trout Creek in 1971. The original hoestead was a farm by the way. I know someone lives their now. Our hunt camp which we use all the time to this day is almost beside the old farm.

I will do some digging around to see what else I can find out from my family. If you have any info I would surly appreciate it. I am currently putting together our family tree. Thanks

The family line as I have it from Edison Uschold, who is currently studying in the US, is:

1. Casper Uschold, born about 1834 in Bavaria and married in 1864 to Charlotte Meiser, born about 1839 in France, or possibly Alsace, and they came to the US arriving Oct 3, 1865 on the Ship Belonna and settled in Pittsburgh PA

2. among their children, John A. Uschold, born Nov 9, 1875 and baptized Nov 21 at St. Michael's in Pittsburgh, stationed at the time of the 1900 US Census in Santiago de Cuba, later stationed in the Philippines, where he married Isidora Sura Lapus

3. two sons, Mark Uschold and Delfin Lapus Uschold. Delfin was born Nov 12, 1910 in the Philippines and died in 1988 in California; Mark married and had a son:

4. Eduardo, whose son is

5. Edison

Let me know if you would like to contact Edison and I can forward a message to him if this information connects for you.

Cordially,
Linda Scheimann, for the
Uschold Family Association.
(working with Linda Uschold Calhoon)

German-Phillipine Uschold

I was shocked to come across this web page. For years I have wondered was my family the only Uschold's in America. I get my last name from my father John Uschold. We are Phillipine, however Uschold is a German name. My father gets his last name from his grandfather John Uschold. My family didn't come to America until the early 50's. I have never in my life met another Uschold. I can't say enough just how shocked and amazed I am about finding this information!

Re: John Uschold , Germany/1850

Hi,

I was moving the Uschold Association pages this evening:

http://pages.ivillage.com/linda514/genealogy/assn/

and when I checked the board here I saw your query. Would you like me to add your question to the Association page?

I am from the Johann Baptist Uschold line from Vohenstrauss to near Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Johann Baptist's parents were from Altenstadt. Nothing in my direct line matches a July 1850 birth date. The research I did was contracted through the Archdiocese at Regensburg (there is a link on the association page) and was thorough but relatively expensive. Later we did some additional research there through a private researcher who was more reasonable and equally good.

The Uschold name is fairly common in that part of Germany. As far as I know the records have not been microfilmed by the LDS or any other source in the US so it probably is necessary to have the research done on site in Germany.

There are several Uschold families who settled in Buffalo, New York, and I am wondering if they are the ones more likely to be related to your family. The Buffalo families came over about 1850.

Please feel free to answer either here or to email me directly.

Incidentally, if Long is a German name, the original spelling is probably Lang or Lange.

Linda Scheimann

To
see the Uschold Association page, please check here:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~scheimann/uschold/

Several lines, thus far seemingly unrelated, are represented here. There may be other family lines descended from women who's maiden name was USCHOLD or USHOLD.
