I just posted a reply, but not sure if I did it right. These are my grandparents and I can probably help along with my brothers. We've been anxious to find some relative on my moms side, but she only mentioned St. Louis. I see you posted in 2005..long time ago. hope you're still interested.

Marji

They were my grandparents. I just was going to Kenosha next week and was looking to see if I could find where my mom (Martha Sunshine Utt) used to live and came across your inquiry. My mom did marry a minister..William Spence. Would love to connect as we (siblings-3 brothers) have been talking about finding relatives and thinking there weren't any around.I have connected with my cousins in England on my dads side. We though one of the Utts played baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals (from my mom), but we really don't know much about that side of the family. Would love to connect.

Marjorie Spence-Openshaw

Parents of Samuel Utt

I am looking for information about my 3 x's great grandfather Samuel Utt. I know he was born October 12 1850 in Ohio I believe, and died May 5th 1921 in Liverpool, West Virginia. There is a 1860's census that has him in Belmont Ohio at the age of 9. Looks to be that he was living in a boarding house or something, he was one of the only children and the only person there by the name UTT.
I do know that he married my 3x's great grandma Celesta in Belmont ohio and they settled in West Virginia.

I am really curious as to who his parents are and what happened to them. On some of the census's with Samuel say his parents t from ohio and another says they were from Indiana. So I really have no idea as to what their names are or anything. If anyone could help out it would be greatly appreciated.

music44time, Regaurding your Elizabeth d/o John Utt, I can't say for certain that it's not in my line, but the John K Utt I am researching didn't have a daughter Elizabeth, but did have a sister. They were both born in Greene Co PA. If I come across another John Utt that DID have a daughter Elizabeth I'll let you know.

I have made a lot of progress these last few days and just yesterday I took a trip to meet my great-aunt. She showed me some papers that her sister had made on our family, it has individual stories and profiles on several of my ancestors and she has been working on this for many years. I am now in the processs of contacting her to get copies, and they are supposed to go back much further than what I have (I'm only to the late 1700's so far). She does indeed have our line coming from Germany, as soon as I get the details I'll let you know if they intersect.

While searching for Elizabeth Utt (or maybe Eszbt Utt) I came across your post. As she also settled in WVa and as near as I can find out from family had a father named John Utt, I wondered if she may have been connected with your John Utt. She came by ship from Germany sometime around the civil war era, and married my g-g-grandfather George Murphy who had immigrated from Ireland. I would be grateful for any information you might have about this elusive ancestor of mine. Thank you.
AM

My G-Gradnfather was Anthony Elsworth Utt (8 July 1896 - 26 Dec 1981) He was married to Mary Alcinda Horner-Utt (20 Nov 1899 - 15 Nov 1991) d/o George Riley Horner and Bertha Ellen Six.

They are both buried in Mt Olive Cemetery. These are all the facts I know for sure. I am trying to track down who his parents/g-parents were. I have seen other family trees listing him as s/o William Henry-Harrison Utt, but they all cite each other as a source and nobody seems to have proof of this connection.

My father told me Anthony had siblings, and the best he can remember there was a Thurman that they called Bob, a William, and maybe a Kelly (or Kelley).

ANY help would be much appreciated.
UTT, THEODORE

I am researching the 143rd PA Vol Inf. - Civil War and Theodore Utt (born 1841 in PA) was in this unit for approx. 3 months (March 1865 thru June 1865). He also served in the US Army Reg 14-A from 1861 - 1863 and received a medical discharge from the 14th. He was the son of Levi and Catherine Utt who (1860 census) lived in Upper Mount Bethel, Northampton County, Pa. I believe his name was Theodore Walter and he had siblings Emmery (sp?), William, Catherine, John, Peter and Ture (sp?).

Theodore married Frances Kimble and lived in PA all their lives. They had Abby A, Marvin C, Walter Theodore, Frances Anna, Mary, George and Ella (there may be 1 more).

Theodore died 24 February 1915 maybe in Dunmore, Lackawanna County, PA as that was where they lived on the 1910 census Frances was still living Lackawanna County on the 1920 census.

What I need to know is in what cemetery is he buried. I would love to include his bio in my research.

I have census reports, military reports and dates on this family if anyone needs them.

I am not related to this family.

I still have copies available.

The Utt Reunion continues. This year the 54th will be held on August 18, 2007 at the Gladesboro Lutheran Church in Carroll Co., VA.
James Harris - James William Augustus - James William Oscar (2nd marriage to Carrie Brown) - William "Bill" Oscar Utt, Jr. Alma had asked my mother to continue updating the descendant lines decades ago, but she never really invested enough time and effort, so I have been working to complete missing info and add to it for the last few years. My mother was in touch with Alma's son just a few months ago regarding contination of the research. He said that another family member has also been working on it. We have asked him to let us know in advance of the next reunion so we can attend; I will post a notification on this website if so. What is your Utt line?

Please contact me directly -Mary K Ward at my email address - mksroots at juno.com >. I'm not an UTT relative. I can't find Howard UTT on a census, but I did find a Bert Lewis UTT family living in KS and Missouri from 1910 to 1930. What was your grandmother's name?

In May 2002 Nancy Norris in Kansas went to Old Mission Cemetery. She said there is a large stone under a big tree that has FIELDS -UTT on it. The name on the other side of the stone is STERLING. There are no other smaller stones and nothing else. Rose E. Sterling Bales is on one stone 1881-1958 and Oscar W Sterling 1857-1920 on the other. Nancy sent me photo's.

Joplin Globe Sunday July 24th 1921; FATHER DIES ON DAY SON'S FUNERAL IS HELD
Charles Henry Fields sucombs to death at home near Webb City as services for his son accident victim in Witchata, KS. Webb City, Mo. July 23. Funeral services for Kirk Fields, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Henry Fields, of near this city, and for Howard Utt of Witchata, Ks. each 20 years old who were ran over by a Santa Fe passenger train leaving Witchita July 14th, were held Monday afternoon in Witchita. It was learned here today by Field's mother that burial was in Mission Cemetery, both buried in the UTT family plot. FIELDS left Webb City several months ago and joined UTT, intending to follow the wheat harvest in Kansas. In leaving Witchita at 2:45 Thursday morning July 14th they were killed and their bodies mutalated along the tracks. They were identified by Utt's wife and a sister of Fields fiance of Witchita. Upon first discovery it was believed that the men had been slain by robbers and their bodies placed on the tracks. The cornors jury however thought their deaths were an accident. Fields is survived by his mother and five sisters and brothers but because of his fathers illness they were unable to attend the funeral Monday. Fields father Charles Henry Fields 43 years of age, died at 3:00 this afternoon. Besides immediate family he is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Maggie Larkins of Springfield and Mrs. Emma Clausen of Springfield and Mrs. Lizzie Ward of North Dakota and one brother John Fields of Springfield. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 tuesday afternoon from the residence to Forest Park Cemetery in Joplin MO. ---end ----

(Note by Mary Kay -The families at that time believed the police and coroner's juries said the death was an accident so that they would not have to investigate. and that sometimes the members of the coroners juries were even paid to render a judgement of "accidental death". )

I know this is an old posting, but here goes......
I am really interested in the posting for Kirk Fields
and Howard Utt in Wichata, KS. In checking my Utt
family files, Howard would have been a cousin to my
Grandmother. Do you have any newspaper articles about
the incident? I do know Howard's parents were buried
in Wichita, so I am guessing that Howard would have
been too.
