I am a Vagen as well. My grandfather, Hans, came over from the Lofoten Islands after World War II, marrying Anna Vandenburg from the Netherlands. I am not too sure of any names in my grandfather's generation, however I will say that I recently (very briefly) saw the family tree that my grandmother has and I do recall that we have some family in Missouri, but most of our distant American relatives are in the Dakotas/Minnesota (how original of them Scandanavian status quos).

Does your family have any crossroads in New Jersey? My family (including myself) have spent a lot of residency in NJ.

Hi,

I came across this name in conjunction with my family in Grand Rapids, MI. It is in the 1910 Census. The Vagenka or Vogenka family is living with my great grandparents, Christian Papke, who had just arrived from Germany in 1900. I think that the wife in this family "E" may be a Papke and related to our family. The census was so difficult to read, but the information I could read is below.

1900 US Census Grand Rapids
Sibley Street
Papke	Christian	Apr 1830	70 M49	GGG IM 1890 -10y	Day Laborer	nnn
Whilemina Mar 1835 65	8 -8 M 49=1851	GGG nnn
Otillia	Apr 1879	21 Seamstress	yyy

Vogenka	E - Head	Apr 1856 44
Voginka	E Oct 1857 43 = Daughter of Christian?
Stanley - son Feb 1879 21
Stanley - son Feb 1879 21

All living in same house - Are they related?
Vagen, Vogen all difficult to read.

Please let me know if anything is familiar. The "E" above was listed as head of household. There were two Stanley's and appear to be twins.

Thanks,

Karen
Vagen

I am looking for any info on the last name Vagen. I am from Missouri and have only aunts and uncles left with that last name. Any elder Vagens have long since deceased, leaving us with little information of our ancestry. We are not even sure where we have originated from. Just with the small amount of investigating of the name, I am guessing we are Norwegian...but that is only a guess. We don't even know if the spelling of our name was ever changed.

This is what we do know:

My Great-great grandfather is Charles Louis Vagen (my aunt found something possibly linking him to Prussia, but this is not verified) whose wife's name was Martha.

My great grandfather is Louis Charles Vagen whose wife's name was May. Their children are Louis (my grandfather), Frank, and Mary Elenor, who all came here to St. Louis from Illinois. All of the aforementioned have deceased. My grandmother, Vivian (DeFosset) Vagen (Louis' wife) is still with us, but does not know his family line dating any further back than what we already know.

I believe my aunt has the maiden names of my gggrandmother and my ggrandmother in the event that someone out there thinks they may have some information on our family and needs those names for verification.

Any information would be greatly appreciated as it is quite frustrating not knowing the family roots for the Vagen side of our family!

Thank you!!
