Vahl - Illinois

Looking for information on German family of Charles Albert Vahl. Born October 31, about 1879-1880 in Kutzan (I'm not sure if this location even exists - can't find anything on google about Kutzan), Germany - perhaps it is Rutzow and not Kutzan. Father - William, emmigrated to US around 1885. Lived in West Town area of Chicago and Oak Park, Illinois. Was a wholesale cigar/candy salesman. Died 1928. Can't find any records of him prior to 1901 when he married Lillian Thompson. Any information on relation to other Vahls(or variations thereof) out there would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know an Otto A. Vahl, but I do have a Charles A. Vahl born 10/31/1880 in Kutzan (I have no idea where this is), Germany, Father - William, emmigrated around 1885, lived in West Town Area of Chicago, was a cigar/candy salesman, died 1928 - do you think they could be related? The only thing I have on Charles is after his marriage in 1901, know nothing about his German family other than what is listed above.

Our family name is Vahlbruch. We are trying to find a connection to Heinze Vahlbruch, Born 20 Sept 1901 in Germany, died 28 1974 in Santa Cruz, California. We believe he had a daughter about 1930. His wife was a Bordthauser.<br>Do you have knowledge of your name's origins? Could it be a shortened version of our name?
