Yo soy Colombiano, radicado en Miami USA, my nombre es Roberto Arnaldo Valcarcel, soy de la cuarta o quinta generacion de los Valcarcel que llegaron de Espana, no se exactamente de donde, pero eso es lo que he conocido de mis antepasados, mi abuelo se llamaba Roberto Arnaldo Valcarcel Viana. Bueno eso era un pequeno aporte si alguien tiene informacion de donde provinieron nuestros ancestros y el significado de nuestro apellido favor se lo agradeceria.

Valcarcel town

I recently visited the town of Vega de
Valcarce. It is on the pilgrimage road to Compostela.
It is in the province of Leon. There is an old
ruined castle on a hill. I belive it now belongs to the Duque de Alba.

At one end of the town the name is spelled
Valcarce, and at the other, Valcarcel.

Family History

Greetings Francisco
I read and speak spanish, but have some trouble writing it.
My father, Francisco Valcarcel Torres was
born in Veracruz Mexico. His father came, from
Spain as part of a family group of 3 or 4
brothers. According to my father they all
went to other countries in South America and
Puerto Rico. He claimed that they came from
Ronda in Andalusia. I was there 20 years ago
and could not find any trace of the Valcarcel's.
However, the civil war destroyed a lot of records.
I might try again in the future.
My father migrated to the New York where he
married my mother Constancia Melendez Vasquez.
She is from Vega Baja, Puerto Rico.

I always thought it meant something like a valley that was closed off like a Jail.

I was born in Cape Town South Africa. My father Reginaldo Placido Valcarcel was also born in Cape Town. His father Juan Valcarcel was born in the Philippines and married my grandmother Louisa Quimpo who's parents were of Philipines decent. (her father was born in Iloilo Philippines.

I have made conatct with both families in the Philippines

Solo para decirte que yo soy de Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico y aunque aunque siempre supe que en el area metro habian 2 o 3 Valcarcel por ahi, no sabia que habian otros por otros rincones del mundo (Colombia, Peru,etc). Leyendo este board es que me entero. Lo unico que se es que supuestamente mi bisabuelo se llamaba Jose Valcarcel y a su papa (mi tatarabuelo) le decian Pepito (me imagino que se llamaba Jose tambien). MI abuelo se llamaba Carlos Serafin Valcarcel y mi papa se llama Pedro (son con 8 hermanos). Te digo esto para ver si hay algun parentesco entre nuestras familias. Desde lo que se, mi tatarabuelo Pepito vino directo de Espana, los demas despues de el nacieron y vivieron en PR (en Cabo Rojo). Quien sabe. El dato de el tal pueblo en Leon, Espana, Vega de Valcarce me parece muy interesante, voy a ver si puedo averiguar mas acerca de eso. Si encuentro datos interesantes te dejare saber. I was born and raised in San Juan, PR. But the Valcarcel family (at least the one I belong to) is mostly centered in Guaynabo, where a small street/"parcela" bears the name. My Valcarcels are of African (i.e., black) descendancy, with a strain of Irish (O'Neill) in them (my great aunts and uncles, and my grandfather have dark skin and light eyes, some are what in PR you call "jabao"). Anyway, I understand that (at least according to my grandpa) Esteban Valcarcel (my great grandfather) came to Guaynabo from Trujillo Alto which not is too far from Caimito. Hope this helps.

it's funny how i have been so curios about my last name i thought it was only me and a few family memebers with such a unique last name in new york.i've trying to learn so much about where my last name originated.all i know is that my grandfather which i can't remember his real name i do recall family and friends calling him pelle he is from rio piedras in puerto rico in the town of caimito bajo and he was married to my grandma name azuncion her nick name was chon and my dads name is margaro and everyone in the family are black. i also know that the valcarcel are a big family i hope someone can answer my question
