Gilbert and Benjamin Vale of Westminster area, London

Hi. I'm working on Gilbert Vale (father and older brother's name both Benjamin, mother is Sarah, and wife was Hephsibah ... various spellings of her name, as you can imagine). Gilbert's birth date given variously as 1788, 1789, or 1791 (the latter appears the best documented, all others are from secondary sources) and his death is certain as 1866 in New York City. He came to NYC from the Port of Rye in England in 1828. Would love to find someone working the same lines.

Hi Dean,

Nice to hear from you. I have not done a lot lately as I had come to a bit of a dead end on several lines. So, this may kick start me into action again !!

if we have the right Steven and Elizabeth (Brown?)he would be my G. Grandfather. My grandfather, Edward Vale would have been Walters brother. I had the name Walter (I think I have all the siblings, but not his second name George.
I have quite a lot of details as far back as Thomas Vail - the spelling changed - if you want to compare notes that would be great. If you want to contact me direct, my email is pittam@supanet.com
Look forward to hearing from you (where are you now? I am in West Wales!!)

My mother June Ball (nee Vale b. 1940)came from Southall, Middlesex, her father William Vale b. 1905 was born in Acton; his parents were John & Anne Vale.

Parts of the family possibly came from Durham.

Grandad (William) was an Insurance agent, selling from an office in Southall. During WW2 he was a dispatch rider at Scotland Yard, having signed the official secret act. What would he have done?

Any suggestion either on Vale, or the Police work in teh war would be appreciated.

Family based in the UK as far as I am aware at the moment.

Thanks, Neal.

Vale Relatives in Canada

Hello,

I discovered not too long ago that my real paternal grandfather is named Frank Vale. All I really know about him was that he hailed from Canada and was a scientist of some sort who was doing research in Hawaii and Samoa. He met my grandmother around 1949-1950. She was 18 and he was 50 (so he must have been born around 1900). My grandmother gave birth to my mother (Frank's daughter) in 1951. He was not around for the birth and left the South Pacific soon after he found out she was with child. Neither of them heard from him again.

I am reaching out to anyone who has any information. I would love to know about this mystery side of my family.

Thank you.

Hi,
Thanks for replying.
Soryy i did not give full information, I can and will do.
However I was really asking in principal on how to proceed with the search I could be lucky that someone else already has the information, but I am having the same trouble with other branches of the family.I wanted to know if so much information was on the 1901 census why the families have completely disapeared from earlier ones. What can I do to search apart from relying on other people - even tho` it would be lovely to find common links. I thought perhap[s I am doing something wrong in my searching.
The paticular family member I am researching at the moment is
Steven Vale DOB 1854
Spouse Elizabeth Brown DOB 1850- 1943
7 children my ancester being Edward DOB 1892 - 1946.
Steven was a Carriers carman in Clerkenwell London.

i have a few other minor details including the names of the other children.

Thanks for any tips you can give
best regards
Hilary

Thank you Linda.
However I am now even more bewildered as we only have two chilren matching the !901 71891 !881 gives us 2 more. this makes 11 children which from family hearsay i don`t think is right unless lots died !!
I am more concerned tho with findi Steven &/or Elizabeths parents .
I cannot find them on any birth records. Is this the only way to find this information/ I haven't been hung up over spelling as you recommend.
but thanks again , much appreciated
Hilary

I have been looking for Alfred Vale for months in the census records, having found his marriage and death I have come to a halt in finding his birth record. Does anyone know of him or have any suggestions as to how I might find him.

He married Alice Dora Luders in 1894 in St Albans and died in Southall aged 77, making his birth year 1874. Help greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your reply.

I have followed up the Alfred Vale from Camberwell born in 1874 but he does not fit the bill, as Alfred's father had died by 1894. The 1901 census record for the Camberwell Alfred shows that his father was still living.

I have also looked up all the births from 1870 to 1875 and checked them out but drawn a blank.

Best Wishes
Barbara

Alfred's father's name was Alfred and he was a carpenter. He was deceased by 1894 when Alfred Jnr and Alice got married.

Alfred Jnr was a grocer and I found the census record for 1901 under the name Vall. His death certificate says he was a provision merchant (retail).

I have looked through the birth records from 1870 to 1875 and followed each one up but none of them fit the bill.

On the census records for 1891 there is an Alfred Vale, living with uncle and aunt, who is a grocer's assistant and would be exactly the right age from Hampshire, but I have found no other records for this person.

Vale family in Canada

I'm trying to trace relatives in Canada. My grandfather, Ronald S. Vale and a nephew, possibly Hugh or Jack Vale, travelled across Canada around 1900 working on farms. The nephew stayed on and had a daughter called Ruth Vale who was born around 1900/1901 and died in Vancouver around 1972. I believe her father died shortly after WWI in the Spanish 'flu epidemic.

I am putting together a family tree and would love to hear from anyone connected with Ruth, whom I met when I was a schoolboy in the 1960s.

Hello Hilary,

I noticed that there is an Elizabeth M Vale on that 1881 Eng Census which we do not see on the other census so I looked up her birth and found an:

Name: Elizabeth Marie Vale
Year of Registration: 1878
Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun
District: Watford
County: Hertfordshire
Volume: 3a
Page: 425

This could be her.
I often order birth, marriage and death certs as they will have valued information on it that you will not get on census. It is also a good ideal because it is your proof of correct information for your genealogy.

So I looked for her else where since I could not find a death cert for her and I did find the following. Not sure if it is her or not but you can look into it:

Marie Elizabeth Vale age 13 born about 1878 in Bengeworth, Worcestershire, England living in Aston, Saltley, Warwickshire, England:
Source: RG12 Piece: 2427 Folio: 32 page 23

Head: John Vale age 47 born: 1844 Bengeworth, Worcestershire, England.
Wife: Elzabeth Vale age 41 born: 1850 in Whimple, Warwick, England.

Niece: Marie Elizabeth Vale age 13 born 1878.

Remember this is only a possiblity and needs to be investigatged first.

Regards, Linda
.
Hello Hilary,

I will go and make this post under the SURNAME section of the board under the name of VALE. So if you go there you will see my post as a response to your request. If I do it here, it will most likely get deleted because it is not just about the CENSUS 1851.

I will use the title "Steven and Elizabeth VALE". So look for that.

Linda.

Hi George:
Please email me directly at hhairbrn@yahoo.com and I will get you in contact with the people I've sent the original pictures to. I am not blood-related to the Epperly's, but my great-grandmother married, second, a many named John Mack Vaughan, who's sister married a man named VALE and their daughter, Agnes Marie Vale married Albert Epperly. I received these old pictures as passed down from my great-grandmother's belongings. She and John Vaughan visited the Vale's and Epperly's in Oregon in the 1920s. I have sent the originals to Epperly - Vale descendants and do not have any on file to forward via Email. I will give you the contact information on who has them now, but only in private Email. Thanks...
Bob
