You're terrific to post the information... I'm descended to Capt. Van Aernam via Isabelle Van Aernam (daughter to Jacob and Esabel Van Aernam; Jacob born from Evert and Halanah Van Aernam) who married Albert Adriance; Cora Adriance was born to Isabelle and Albert and married Thomas Snare--where our specific family line comes into the picture. From Cora and Thomas, Archibald Snare my grandfather was born... he died in Chatham Center, NY in 1968.

Best Wishes--Phil

Hi,
Yes, I am descended from Jacob and Catherine (they are my 6th great grandparents) through Thomas and Margaret (my fifth ggparents) and then through their son Benjamin and his wife Margaret, thorugh their son John Benjamin and his wife Cordelia, through their daughter Alice and her husband Abraham Sauer. Alice was the maternal grandmother of my maternal grandmother. Are you descended from Bajnamin also or from one of the other children of Thomas and Peggy (Margaret)? If from Banjamin, he and both his wives are buried at Albany Rural Cemetery in Menands, near Albany.
Regards,
Eric

Hello,
The cemetery where Jacob and Catherine (and quite a few of their family, including sone Thomas and his wife, etc.) are buried is on Brandle Rd in Altamont, Albany Co, NY. It is just noth of the railroad crossing (the only RR corssing on the road) and on the east side of the road(the RR crosses at an angle). The cemetery is hidden behind a growth of thick foliage but there is a road leaing into it running E off Brandle, just N or the crossing. Just S of the crossing is a white farmhouse. If you have trouble, the owners of that house (I forget their name -- unrelated) own the land the cem. sits upon and will be happy to help you; just tell them you are a descendant. The cem. where John is also is on Brandle Rd but further N, right at the entrance to the village of Altamont (close to Arlington St.). It is highly visible from the road. Altamont is in Albany Co, NW or the city of Albany and essentially within its metro area. It is about 25 minutes from downtown Albany. My directions above plus a good map of the area will get you there if you are in Albany.
Which child of Jacob and Catherine are you descended from? Some of the family are in other cemeteries, including Albany Rural and the Dutch Cemetery. If you have names of ancestors of this or related lines you can give me I may be able to tell you where various members of the family are buried.
Regards,
Eric Brock

Just ran across your post from 2006. I am a 6th great grandson of Jacob and Catherine Van Aernam and a 5th great grandson of Thomas and Margaret Van Aernam, all of whom are buried in this cemetery, located on what was once the Van Aernam farm but which later went to the Crounse family, descendants of one of Jacob's daughters. I live in Louisiana but have visited the cemetery and the other Van Aernam cemetery up the road. Some other descendants are buried at Albany Rural Cemetery in Menands nearby and Margaret's relatives are at the old Dutch Cemetery in Altamont very close by.

Van Norman Family Association website

There is a Van Norman Family Association website at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~vnfa/ . They list all the variations of the name including Van Arnhem. I also recently found out my G-G-Grandmothers name was Sarah Van Norman. According to their site I too am a descendent of Jan Janz Van Arnhem. The site is a little hard to navigate but there is alot of information there. They list the last names as VN (due to there being so many variants) then they list the actual last name as a middle name.
Good Luck
Mike Kline

I connect to this line through Eunice Harmon Van Ornum b. 1823 (?) not looking at my FTM who m. Sardine Stone Van Ornum. I have an email copy of his obit from Farnum, Sargent Co., ND dtd. 1903 where he lived with his son Hiram Lewis/Louis Van Ornum and family. I believe Sardine was the son of Abraham Van Ornum Jr. of Edwards, St. Lawrence Co., NY There are a couple other cousins out there searching other Van Ornums.
