I'm not researching this surname and I have no connection to the Van Norstrand name or any of its variations. However traditionally, a surname with a prefix of "Van" before it, (such as "Van Norstrand" or "Van de Kamp") has Dutch origins from Holland or the Netherlands, whereas a surname with a prefix of "Von" before it, (such as "Von Trapp"), is of Germanic origin.

Good luck in your continued research.
