There are two VanAernams in our tree. They are both in-laws but I'd like more info on them. A VanAernam m. to Trudy Mohawk and John VanArnum m. to Ada Patterson (1884-1907)

My VanAernams started in New Amsterdam and later Albany.
I don't have any of the people you are looking for in my records. I also checked a book, VanArnhem Family in North America and did not find them. You might want to check with the VanNorman Family Asc. in Canada. They have records on a lot of the Loyalist families who moved to Canada. I know some VanAernams did this. Their e-mail is vnfa@geneofun.on.ca
Hope this helps.

I am researching the family of Martia/Marsha/MarciaVanarnem b. NY/VT April 1814 (spelling and birth location depends on census year) who married my gg-grandfather William Peterson in Richland County, OH, June 1835 and lived in Morrow County, OH, until they sold their property in 1851 and moved to Randolph County, IN. I believe she might have been daughter to Fredric (b. Quebec) and Mary (b. CT) and sister to Theodore (b. 1808 VT) found in 1850 Randolph County IN census (whose first child born in Indiana in 1839), but that relationship is not verified. Jerusha Vanarnum, who might be a sister, was married to Joshua West also in 1835 in Richland County.

Jane< I am picking up from your message to Joy. I am also interested in the VanArman family. Mine also came from the Albany Area moving to Lewis County, NY. The first one was William Crouse VanArnam (1810- 1906) who was married twice. I am interested in his first family. His wife was Maria or Mary Sand. I am sure that they are all related in some way. Any help is much appreciated, Barbara

Not quite ALL Van Arnams are form Jan Dirksz VA and Sarah Theunis. Most seem to be, but I've run across one Van Arnam who came to U.S. from Netherlands in 1948 (and two others who went to Brazil, I think.)
I've also found families with names that look like one or another of the variations on Van Arnam whom other researchers have traced to somebody from France, as I recall.
Just to add a little more uncertainty to the brew.

I am connected through the Harmon family to Sardine Van Ornum (no dates) who married Eunice Harmon of Edwards, St. Lawrence Co., NY and they had at least two sons possibly three, Hiram Lewis b. 1848 m. Addy Harmon Woods and Adoniram Judson Van Ornum. Also a Jane Van Ornum who m. Nelson Cumber. Can anybody add to this line? I find it interesting that there were Van Arnems in neighboring Lewis Co., NY. I believe they are the same family.

VanArnem is Dutch and means from Arnhem (a town in the Netherlands). The first one in this country arrived some time before 1664 and settled in New Amsterdam. The family was later located in Albany, NY. There are several variations of the spelling but I believe all are related. My branch spells it VanAernam.
I have lots of information on the family if you are interested.
