one more thing to add from my first reply...Roses' Godfather is listed as Alphonse Nadeau on her birth certificate. I noticed a reference to a 'Nadeau' in this thread. Not sure if they are related but suspect they are.

Hello, I was just visiting the site and found your thread. I decend from Marie Rosina Vanasse and Joseph Fournier. My Grandmother was their daughter Rose-Aimee, born Feb 10, 1909 St. Martin Somersworth, NH (her name also listed as Roseme on some documents). Rose had a brother Ernest. I am in the process of gathering information and photos from family. Let me know if you would like any additional information. Thank you for your reach and the information provided below. Was wondering about the Fleury connections. It appears, Gilbert married sisters?

Best Wishes,
Jacqueline

Hi;

Marie-Josephte Messier is my gr gr gr grandmother. She was born 19 Oct 1808 at Beloeil, Vercheres, Quebec, the daughter of Charles Messier (b 19 Jan 1754 Varennes, Vercheres) and Josephte Adam b abt 1785 (d/o Joseph Adam and Marie-Angelique Bissonet/Laforme).

Charles Messier (s/o Joseph and Marie Anne Godu/Sanschagrin/Soucy) married late. Someone I corresponded with thinks he may have been with the Hudson Bay Co and may have had a "country marriage" with a Native American before he married Josephte Adam (5 May 1805 Beloeil, Vercheres). I have never found any supporting evidence of that, but who knows.

They had six children I have found, Josephte is the eldest. Charles was a laborer and moved around a bit. He died at Sorel in 1820. Josephte Adam remarried Jacques Beauchemin in 1826 and had two daughters, one of whom may have survived. I have not been able to find their burials, even with BMS 2000.

Josephte Messier and one sister Francoise came to Yamaska, probably to work, in the late 1820's. Josephte married Regis Vanasse in 1829 and Francoise married Jean Baptiste Niquet in 1831, also at Yamaska. Another sister Celeste married Francois Comeray in 1830 at St Hilaire de Rouville then Louis Ledoux in 1842 at Beloeil, then Charles Coté in 1844 also at Beloeil. Sister Marie-Louise Messier married Antoine Daigle at St Hyacinthe in 1833. There was one son Joseph Messier b 1810 but I have no marriage for him.

This has mostly, been my primary reseach from original sources, I haven't seen it anywhere else online. please contact me for more information: Pat DiSabatino disabs2753@yahoo.com, by the way I'm descended from Benjamin and Adeline Verrier.
Benjamin was the son of Regis and Josephte that inherited their farm, and he was the last son to leave Yamaska.

Gilbert Vanasse s/o Jean Baptiste and Marie Julie Forcier dit Gaucher b 14 Mar 1856 St Guillaume d'Upton, Yamaska, Quebec m (1) Philomene (possibly Fleury)24 Nov 1878 at Somersworth (? St Martin). They are listed in the 1880 census (Vanasse spelled Venno). Their surviving child Marie-Rosinna (born Nov 1879 Somersworth) married Joseph Fournier (s/o Louis and Sophie Fortin) 25 Dec 1904 St Martin, Somersworth. Gilbert married (2) Julie Fleury (d/o Jean Baptiste and Anne Caya ((or Caille or Cayer)) who was born abt 1865 on 4 Jun 1888 at La Nativité de Hochelaga in Montreal. They had many children . In the 1900 census Julie says she had given birth to 9 children, only 2 (Eva and Bertha) were living. At least 2 more children were born after the 1900 census. Gilbert's brother Onesime and his wife Seraphine Nadeau also lived in the Somersworth area. I have a huge Vanasse database, please contact me disabs2753@yahoo.com. They married about 1865 and lived in St. Simon, Sorel, and St. Marcel-de-Yamaska, Québec. Their daughter, Anne Rosalinde Cadoret married to Dr. Louis Herménégilde Maranda in 1896, Montréal, Québec, are my husband's grandparents. About 1898 they were living in Woonsocket, RI. Would love to hear from you.

Hi Elisabeth,

Have you found the Vanasse line yet? If you have, please excuse this. John Vanasse was the son of Edouard-Antoine Vanasse and his second wife Josephine Chene. His family is listed at St Bonaventure, Drummond, Quebec in the 1881 Canadian census. I wonder if Joseph is John? I was interested in John and Mercy because he is listed at the Ellis Island website. In the 1930 census in Readsboro, Mercy is living with sons Richard, Clarence, and Leland, but is listed as married, rather than a widow. Did John have health problems then? Mercy is said to be born in England.

Have you checked Bernard Vanasse's website?

Edouard-Antoine b 11 Apr 1842 St Michel d'Yamaska is the eldest son of Antoine Vanasse and Julie Morin.

Antoine Vanasse b. 21 Feb 1817 St Michel d'Yamaska is the sixth child of Jean Francois Antoine Regis Vanasse and Agathe Forcier dit Gaucher.

Jean Francois Antoine Regis Vanasse b. 23 May 1785 St Michel d'Yamaska is the sixth child of Etienne Vanasse and Catherine Danis.

Etienne Vanasse b. 17 Aug 1753 St Michel d'Yamaska is the fifth and youngest child of Joseph-Antoine Vanasse and Marguerite Couturier dit Labonte.

Joseph-Antoine Vanasse b. 8 Sep 1718, St Francois du Lac, Yamaska, Quebec is the eldest child of Etienne Vanasse and Marie-Charlotte Dubois.

Etienne Vanasse b. 27 Jan 1692, Trois, Rivieres, St Maurice, Quebec, the tenth child of Francois Noel Vanasse and Jean Fourrier.

Francois Noel Vanasse was born abt 1642 St Maclou, Rouen, Normandy, France the son of Paul Vanasse and Barbe Monsel.

I have a lot more data. Andrew was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Louis married Jennie or Mary Jane King sometime from 1900-1910. The marriage could have occurred in New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts or Quebec. I have conflicting info.
I am trying to find his birth records. Any Info would be helpful.

Hi.. I previously posted information regarding anyone who knows about a Louis D. Vanasse. I received my grandfather's birth record, Andrew H. Vanasse, who was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, but the records only indicated that my great-grandfather, Louis D. Vanasse, was born in Canada. I fear my trail is very very cold. Louis was married to Jennie King. He had at least two other children, a boy, Richard, a girl Hazel, and perhaps yet another girl, who entered the convent. John R. Ponte, if you have information that might assist, I would greatly appreciate it, I tried to write a letter to Father Henry Vanasse, and while I think he received it, I received no response, likely due to his reported illness.

My father was George Vanasse; deceased around 1979-1980. He would be in his mid-late 60's if he were alive. His father was from Canada (i think from somewhere near the Quebec province) who came over to the US; and had my father with a woman named Clara Logan who was Spanish Irish immigrant. She is also disceased. My father was survived by 5 children; one of which is also disceased. My brother who is disceased had contact with an uncle in Canada; but i have no clue as to who it was. After my father was born his father, left Clara and went back to Canada. If anyone knows anything relating to this, it would be greatly appeciated.
Thank You
