Re: looking for relatives of Llewellyn Vandercook

Much of the more recent data is unsubstantiated and rather skimpy, but it's all that I currently have in my database.

Llewellyn M./B. Vandercook was born in 1834 in New York to Francis Vandercook and his second wife, Catherine M. GRAHAM. Llewellyn married Emma L. ELBRIDGE 2 June, 1898 in Carroll Co., IN. He died 13 February, 1905 in Mankato, Blue Earth Co., MN and is buried in the East Newark Cemetery, Wayne Co., NY.

Francis Vandercook was born 11 September, 1806 in New York to Henry VanDerCook and Lydia JEFFERS. Francis died 7 February, 1854 in Carroll Co., IN.

Henry VanDerCook was born 22 September, 1785 to Cornelius VanDerCook and Marya MANDEVILLE. Henry died 25 September, 1823 in New York at the age of 38.

Cornelius VanDerCook was born 6 May, 1754 in Morris Co., NJ to Michael VanDerCook and Cornelia VAN NESS. Cornelius died in 1829 in New York.

Michael VanDerCook was born 10 November, 1715 at Horseneck, Essex Co., NJ to Michael VanDerKoek and Saertje JOOSTEN. Michael VanDerCook died 2 November, 1786 at Town of Pittstown, Rensselaer Co., NY.

Michael VanDerKoek was born circa 1674 in Breskens, Zeeland, The Netherlands and came to this country circa June, 1686 with his parents, Frans/Francis VanDerkoek and Laventje DE VRIES.

I will admit that this is pretty bare bones stuff, but it should at least get you pointed in the right direction. I am descended from Henry Vandercook, another son of Michael and Cornelia (VanNess) VanDerCook. Sadly, I do not have as much material as I'd like on the Cornelius VanDercook branch of the family.

Happy hunting!

Does anyone have any information about Venus D. Vandercook? I know of one of his sons (Clarence Russell Vandercook) but I don't know if he had anymore children or not. He was married to Margarette LaGrave and I have quite a lengthy line on her side of the family, but I'm at a stand still on his side. I don't know his parents names or siblings or anything. I only know that he was born on October 15th 1893 and died in Pulaski county Arkansas in September of 1975. Any information about him or his family would be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Janet (great grand-daughter of Venus Vandercook)

Here is the answer to your question concerning my lineage from Edward Pickett and Catherine Brown. They were married on Dec. 27 1909 in Nevada City Ca. They had one son that I know of Earl Brown Vnadercook, b. 17 Aug. 1911 d. Sep. 1986.

Earl, who is my maternal grandfather had two wives the first was Florence Catherine Turner b. Aug 18, 1915 and has since died in the mid 1970's maybe '76? He had three daughters Earlene Shirley, Mary June, and my mother Suzzanne Carol. The second marriage was to Carmen Hernandez, who resides with their son Edward in Sacremento.

Earlene had a one time marriage to Larry Billing that contributed Larry Jr. Who I believe is now married and living in Oregen.

Mary June married John Kemble who died in Sep or Oct. of 1976 of Diabeties. They had four children, John Jr., Suzanne, Daniel and Julie. Danny, just recently passed away in January. Suzanne and John are both married.

Sue, also had two marriages the first to an Eddleblutte, which bore two chldren, Jean Carol b. Dec 3, 1963 and Carl Richard b. 1 January 1966. The second marriage was to Richard Morris Lyman III, that marriage produced two offspring, Richard IV. and Stephen Turner. Out of all four Jean is the only one married

It depends on which Michael you're trying to trace. The elder Michael (1715-1786), husband of Cornelia VanNess, reputedly served in the Committee of Correspondence for Schagticoke. Michael (1744-), the eldest child of Michael and Cornelia and who married Maria ALLES/OLLES/VAN AULEN/VAN ALLEN, is the probably the most difficult member of the family to trace. He served in the 14th Regiment of Albany Co. Militia ("Colonel Peter Yates' Regiment") along with his four brothers, Simon, Henry, Isaac and Cornelius. (BTW, there is not a shred of existing documentation that shows a son named Jacob for Michael and Cornelia VanDerCook.) I am a descendant of Henry and Anna (FRANCISCO) VanDerCook and was the first of Henry's many female descendants to file for DAR membership on the basis of his service. The muster list for the 14th Regiment of Albany Co. Militia can be found in NEW YORK IN THE REVOLUTION AS COLONY AND STATE. This set of two volumes is a standard reference widely available in library genealogical collections in hardbound, microfiche and microfilm forms.

I would very much like a copies of both articles! The murder victim, Simon Adolphus Vandercook, was the eighth of eleven children born to Simon S. Vandercook and Elizabeth SNYDER. Simon S. Vandercook (1788-1883) was seventh of the nine children born to Simon VanDerCook and Laventje "Fevine" VAN DER HOEF. Charles Ranney VanDerCook was the youngest son of Michael S. VanDerCook by his second wife, Sally EDDY. Michael S. VanDerCook (1774-1837) was the eldest child of the Simon and Fevine VanDerCook mentioned above. Although Simon Adolphus Vandercook and Charles Ranney Vandercook were multiply related due to various family intermarriages, they were primarily first cousins.

In the Library of Congress is a book called "Those Sons and Daughters of the Vandercooks" compiled by Wesley Vandercook in 1917. He hand wrote all the information he gathered on large sheets of architect paper. The charts in my possession have been copied many times and are extremely hard to read. However on chart #64 History of the Vandercooks, is the War of the Revolutionary Records of Micheal Vandercook and his six sons, and says"this is to certify that the name of Micheal Vandercook appears in the manuscripts of the colony and state of New York in the Revolutionary Waron file in the department as followos Vol 7, folio 101 (or 107) etc. Hope this gives you a clue. Michael Vandercook is in my lineage. My great grandmother was the daughter of Henry Vandercook and Margery Lester. E Forrest

I bought an old scrapbook, in it was a column about the death of Simon Vandercook. He was murdered by Oscar F. Beckwith. The trial was in Colombia county. The first trial was held November 16,1885. The murder was on January 10, 1882. It was a pretty gruesome murder, that I won't repeat here, but anyone interested I would be glad to scan it for you. In this same scrapbook was the article about the death of Charles Ranney Vandercook. I don't know if they were related or not!

I am very interested in this bible, I am the eldest daughter of Laureen Vandercook, my brother sent me this very intresting message. I was very close to my cousin Thelma Dickerson before she left to live in the east. I often went to see her in south pasadena. She baby sat me when she was a teenager and my parents helped raise her. I lost track of her although for a while we corresponded, I think she must have died as I did not hear from her after a while. I have also lost track of Peggy and Tom, her two children. I have a large family, had six children, have 19 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. I would love to know all you know about the Vandercook familyas my daughter, Christine, and I had done lots of research on the family. Please email me. I may be able to add to your knowledge about the family.
