Dear Andrew,

If you are still interested in details of Gilbert Vane's wife, I can provide some help as I am slowly tracing her family details. Her name was Mary STEEDMAN, daughter of Edward Blakeway STEEDMAN of High Ercall Hall, Shropshire, and they were married at High Ercall on 24 June 1891. There were several Marys in the family, so I cannot yet provide more detail, although one of them was a prominent tennis player and the All England Ladies Tennis Doubles champion in the 1890s with her sister Bertha.

I am doing research of my own and have come to an Arthur Vane and William Vane living in Huntington Township, Brown County, Ohio. Both of these individuals are living at this place in according to the 1820 and 1830 federal census. According to the census, Arthur was born in the 1790s and William was born in the 1760s. Not a perfect match, but there it is. It appears they settled in to the area between 1810 and 1820 as they are not listed in the 1810 census for the area.
One thing to note, the 1820 census lists Willliam as a foreigner, not naturalized.
Do you think this is a match?
Any info you may send me, will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Carol

I don't have much information on him or his family, but I do know he married in Erie, Pennsylvania in 1921 and returned to Czeckoslavakia in 1922 (possibly 1923). We suspect "Vane" wasn't his original name. Do you think there might be a connection? Do you have any information on Slovak Vanes? I'd appreciate anything! Thank you.

I have been researching our family history myself and came across John Vane and Elizabeth Rogerson some time ago.
John Vane was the grandson of Joseph and Tabitha Vane who were my 4 x great grandparents. I have quite a lot of information about them that I can share with you if you would like.
I must say Harry Vane was a worry to me in my research as I found him in the 1901 census at Leeds Barracks, but then nothing. It is so good to know that he carried on to have what on first appearance was a full life.
I have found Harry’s father’s grave at Swanmore in Hampshire. I am in possession of his Death Cert. Etc.
Please let me know if you would like to share information.
