Leo was my g-pa. I remember Boog, Uncle Lester, Aunt Teal, and I remember hearing of Aunt Mary. Betsy was a full blood cherokee and an original enrollee of the Dawes Commission. She, Granddad (Charlie), Boog, and Teal are all buried out at Moody. I'll ask my Mom about Joy. But, it definitely seems that you have the correct family. Did she remain in the Cherokee County area? I may be wrong but just to make sure the we aren't passing in the dark. my mothers uncles were leo, Harold (Boog), One more uncle that she cant remember. Her aunts were Teal, And Marry who had passed away in her 30-40s from cancer. my mothers mom was joy ford, and her parents were charles henry ford and her mother was betsy maude Vann, who was i believe full cherokee.

Joyce Adeline Vann took the name Long after Josph J. died. As to Deanie I hope I'm not part of that abusive Vann tree. I do know that we don't fit that mold.

Hi,
I'm Linda Lightsy (Vann) maiden name. My father is O D Vann.
He had a sister Margeret and mother's name Anna Allen. This was the name I knew her by. Mama Anna had a sister Pearl Cooper. All of them lived in Los Angeles where I was born. Pearl passed away around 1982. No one ever discuss his past with me, maybe because I was so young at the time. I didn't learn about my sisters until I was much older. You have a brother name Harley Vann and another brother Gregory Vann, we don't have the same mother. I pray that you check back soon and read this. I have lots of questions to ask, as you probably will too.

My name is Linda J. Lightsy (Vann). My father is OD Vann, he also has a son Harley Vann. We were both born in Los Angeles, Ca. My birthday is August 3, 1951, and Harley October 21, 1956. I saw this post for the first time today. I hope that you will check back here again, since it was posted 9 years ago. I was so excited to hear from you. All through the years I wondered about the sisters I never met. Daddy also had another son Gregory. He died October 1977. He had lung cancer. Mama Anna and Margeret took care of Gregory after his mother passed away. I didn't know that Margeret lived at one time in San Francisco. I'm pretty sure that they passed on. I lost contact with Margeret when I moved from Los Angeles to Virginia. I have 3 children, Kellee (30), Willie 111 (21), and David (19). I have a grandaughter Bree (10). Many researchers feel Chief James Vann's parents were John Joseph Vann ( a Scotch trader) and Wa-Wli (a Cherokee lady) They also feel Wa-Wli was his girlfriend while he lived with Agnes Weatherford. (NOTE: Possibly he and Agnes werenot married. Agnes' father was Charles Wilkerson Weatherford.) Look at the World Connect Project on the Internet under James Vann, for a posting by "Guenther" and click on the ahnentafel at the bottom of the screen. I don't really don't know anything about the Van/n family apart from what I have found on this web site, As my Granmother was born after Louisa had died,She didn't even no her name until I got her Father's Birth Cert.

I got most of the family tree from my (hints) which came from a Wiggins Family tree.

I do live in the uk and I live in Fritwell the same villiage Louisa moved to with her husband Thomas,

There is some of my Gran's family in the local grave yard but so far I have only found Her Mother's side not the Townsend side.

Hello,
I am the daughter of ELVIN EUGENE VANN, SR. I would like to correspond with anyone with knowledge of him or his family from all over Southern GA (Bainbridge, Moultrie, Cairo, and even Thomasville).

I don't know much about my father and he was killed when I was barely seven years old. If anyone could help me find out something about my relatives, I would appreciate it greatly.

I'm currenly a soldier in the U.S. Army and it's hard enough trying to keep up with relatives as it is. I just don't want my children growing up not knowing where they came from. Please help.

I'm desperately looking for information about John Joseph Vann (father of Chief "Crazy" James Vann) -- if "John Joseph" is his correct name? Who were his parents? Was he Scottish or Cherokee (by way of marriage or otherwise)? (I've heard both.) Was he indeed a Cherokee Chief (even if by marriage)? If of Scottish descent, was he born in Scotland or in the U.S.? Any information about Agnus Weatherford (his first wife or partner) and their relationship and/or her parents would be greatly appreciated!

There doesn't seem to be much information about them in "Vann Generations with Cherokee Origins" and I've been told that "Cherokee Rose" (while an interesting read is more family stories that have been passed down thru generations). I've searched ancestry.com, but I haven't seen sources cited in any trees that I've found so far indicating that Edward Vann and Mary Barnes were John Joseph's parents (reportedly born in the U.S.)
