I am looking to contact people who are descended from a SAMUEL VANNATTA, b. 1788 in North Carolina. He moved to De Kalb Co., TN., prior to 1830. He was recorded on the 1850 census of De Kalb Co., TN. as a 62 year old male farmer who was born in North Carolina, with a wife named HANNAH, age 57, born in Tennessee, and children named JAMES age 20, McADO, age 18, DANIEL O. age 16, and JOHN age 14. All of his children were born in Tennessee. Many of his children were listed on the 1860, 1870 and 1880 census of De Kalb County, Tennesse, so it appears most of them remained in this area.
I'm trying to connect my Jane VANNATTA to this family as I find the aforementioned McADO VANNATTA living next door to the widow of Benjamin Bennett and my Jane VANNATTA (b. 1798 in North Carolina) was married to William Bennett (brother of Benjamin) b. 1790 in North Carolina.
Various books report that my Jane VANNATTA was a daughter of a Peter VANNATTA and his wife Rebecca Starrett, however, I believe this information is incorrect. I do think that Jane's father may have been named Peter, but I do not think that her mother was Rebecca Starrett. Anyone out there related to this Samuel VANNATTA? Care to help out with this?
