Hello Daniel,
The Vannice name is fairly common. You will be surprised at how many there are. Aucke Janse was the first immigrant in 1651 to what is now New York. I am descended from Robert, then Charles, the William Albert, then John, then 4 Isaacs. Google "Carrie Allen Van Nuys genealogy" and you can find a book about the family.
Marti

I am looking for a Daisy Mae Herron, b3-25-1891 d11-4-1986 married alvin cox. I have the Alvin Cox part. I am also looking for Daisy's mother, Sally Jane Mann, who married a Willis/Willie/William Herron/Heron. I'm trying to tie it into my husband's family tree. This is the only information his mother was able to give me. My mother in law's name was Bonnie Lou Vannice Ackley.. Mary cox Sluder was her mother's name. Mary's mother's name was Lettie Cox, she married a John S Sluder, that part I have. I am also having trouble with the man Mary Cox Sluder married, a Raymond Lee Vannice. His parents were Dora Bell Dorsett which I have found. But his father, Harry Lewis Vannice, I have nothing on. Harry and Dora's kids were Harry Jr, Raymond, Delores Bell, and Albert William. I appreciate any help I can possibly get.

Hi! Just found your message, I had run across mention of the Van Nuys Genealogy thru Genealogy.com Family Records when I was looking for info on my father's family. Robert Luther (R.L.) Darnell b. 5 Jan 1912 to James Edward Darnell and Angeline Peak Rice. Per the Gen.com Family Records, the book by Carrie E. Allen, Van Nuys Genealogy, made reference to him on pg. 258: "Two children: 1 10 Robert L. Darnell, b. Jan 5,1912. 2 10. My grandmother, Angeline, was the daughter of David Luther Rice and Lena Rivers Vanice (Van Nuys) b. 1860. I would love to compare information with you or anyone else that is interested. I have several 'brick walls' I'm running into and maybe you can help. Katie

I think your Edgar Wallace Vannice is the same Edgar W. Vannice b. c1877 Polk Co., MO, the son of Peter Vannice and his third wife Mrs. Cinderella (Smith) Montgomery. I am descended from the first wife, and most of the children by the first wife stayed in Indiana. Children by the second wife stayed in Missouri. Children by the third wife lived on the west coast. A pretty scattered family with children spread out over 45 years!

I have a book written by Carrie E Allen in 1916. It is called " a record of the Family of Isaac Van Nuys (or Vannice) of Harrodsburg, Kentucky son of Isaac Van Nuys of Millstone, New Jersey. It says in the book that Aucke Janse Van Nuys came from Holland in 1651 to New Amsterdam (New York). I am trying to put all of this on line at www.familytreemaker.com/e/r/h/Diane-L-Erhart/index.html If this will help you I will be printing this up when I get it all done probably by fall of 2000. email me if you wish to have a copy.

I am seeking information on the parents and other family members of Mildred Margaret Van Nice, b. 1/2/1889 married Wallace Coon Tharp on 8/18/1905 in Osceola, MO. by Rev. W.D. Sidman.I believe her father's name was Tom (Thomas?) and she had siblings named Frederick Arthur Van Nice, Thomas Keifer Van Nice, Daniel Bratschi Van Nice, Mary Catherine Van Nice, Frank Leslie Van Nice, Vernie Charlotte Van Nice, Minnie Virgina Christine Van Nice, Laura Florence Van Nice, Harold Stanley Van Nice, Vola Mae Van Nice, and Bertha Alice Marie Van Nice.I presume Mildred was born somewhere in Osceola county and have a brief family history that states she and her husband both were born in the Ozarks. If anyone knows anything about this Van Nice family, I'd love to hear from you. Thank you!

Thanks so much for replying. I am very interested in receiving the information you have. I had a feeling this name was originally spelt Van Nuys and that it was anglicized for easier spelling in the new world so to speak. How did you come upon this book? Is the Van Nice name part of your ancestry? As I mentioned on the'board' I do not know much at all about the history of the family however I do know that they settled in the U.S. My e-mail address is monica.vannice@moh.hnet.bc.ca. Recently an uncle who is doing a family tree has come into town so I will be learning alot more! Again, many thanks and I look forward to a copy of your research.

I have considerable information on the Van Nuys/Van Nice/Vannice family. Possibly we could be of some assistance. What was your grandfathers name and, if you know, where and when was he born.

Jennifer:
I have not been able to locate either your father or grandfather in any of my records. Do you have any information on where your father and grandfather were born? This often can provide information on their parents names, etc. Also if your grandfather has passed on you might be able to obtain information from his military records. Also some information can be obtained from Social Security records. If I can be of any further assistance please feel free to e-mail me at vannice@dnc.net. Good luck on your search...don't give up! It can often be frustrating when you make an inquiry, especially when you know the person is related, and receive no reply.

Again good luck and we are willing to help in any way we can.
