I am currently trying to find any information on VanScoy’s in VA or WV. I have been able to trace my VanScoy ancestors to VA. It goes as follows:

1st generation
2nd generation
3rd generation
4th generation--Cyrus Glenn VanScoy/ married to Viola Louise Costlow Born in ROSS COUNTY, OH
5th generation--Cyrus J. VanScoy/ married to Maud Brittenham B. IN ROSS COUNTY, OH
6th generation--Aaron VanScoy/ married to Hattie Harmon. AV born in 1848 ROSS COUNTY, OH
7th generation--*Aaron VanScoy Jr. b. in VA
8th generation--*Aaron VanScoy Sr.-- Moved to ROSS COUNTY OH in either 1804 or 1809 (two books give different dates) with Aaron JR. --Taken from the ROSS COUNTY, Ohio History Book: [Aaron VanScoy came with his father's family from Virginia in 1804. About 1809 they located in Huntington township, ROSS COUNTY. He was a member of Captain Northup's company in the war of 1812. His only compensation for his services was a land warrant which he received a number of years after the war closed. Enoch VanScoy was also an employee of the government during the war; while Rev. Isaac Murphy, John Campbell, Jacob Day, Benjamin Smith and David Ridgway were regularly enlisted soldiers from the VanScoy neighborhood.]

*I believe this is Aaron VanScoy’s father and grandfather. I have been to the ROSS COUNTY (OH) Genealogical Society, Library, and Cemetery’s and have not found 100% proof. However, this is the direction I’ve been pointed towards--and others seem to believe that this is correct. I may be missing a generation. I’ve tried looking at census records, birth records and marriage records, however, I can’t find Aaron VanScoy’s (b. 1848) mother and father’s name. I believe there are several Aaron’s from the VA area around this time. I just need to narrow it down to the correct ones! If you can give me some names, dates, or give me some advice, I’d greatly appreciate it!

BTW, I do have photographs of all three seperate Aaron's burial plots, along with other VanScoy's--Enoch, George [which may be an uncle or brother of one of the Aaron's; I know Enoch is George's father], Elizabeth, Nancy, Hattie, Laura, James, John, and many others at Mt. Tabor cemetery in OH.
