I have just discovered this possible Vardeman connection. I see some indication in these postings that the name is Sweedish. Is this correct?

I have a Vardeman Bowles (Boles), grandson of Edmund Bowles (Boles). Edmund (b ca 1775 VA) migrated from KY to Vincennes, IN where son Pleasant was born 1811. The family later settled in Sullivan Co., IN. Wife of Edmund was Tabitha Whitten. In 1830 Pleasant Boles went back to Mercer Co., KY and married Julia Ann Franklin, daughter of Nancy (Whitten) Franklin. Tabitha and Nancy Whitten are sisters. I believe the Whitten and Franklin families are from Amherst Co., VA.

Elizabeth Knight Vardeman was living alone with her children.

I am a Knight researcher. I am descended from Elizabeth's brother, Hampton Daniel Knight, that settled about 1880 in Hopkins CO, TX and her sister Nancy Knight that married Archie Campbell.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Yes, They were my great-grandparents. My grandfather was one of their children - James Henry Franklin Vardeman. In fact, I was in the Union Springs Cemetery last weekend at a family reunion & saw their headstones - side by side. One of the other children, Albert, was also buried there. Do you have any info on this line of the Vardeman family? If so, I would love to see it.

I'm looking for information about Jemimah Vardeman. According to my information she married William Pope about 1785 in Crab Orchard, Kentucky. I have a copy of the marriage bann which is signed by Patrick Henry, but am not sure who her father was. Cursory information suggests she was daughter of John Vardeman and Elizabeth Morgan which might account for my first name. Any ideas or information would be appreciated.

Molly:

It has been almost a year since your post so you may already know this: My data shows Claude Phillip Vardeman was the son of John Thomas Vardeman (and Cornelia (Nellie)Gaines), s/o Peter Vardeman (and Mary W. (Polly) Scroggins) of Shelby Co., KY, s/o Thomas B. (and Mary Wilcoxson), s/o Peter (and Prudence last name unknown), s/o William I (and Magdalena Petersson), s/o John Vardeman I (and Margaret last name unknown)

The aunts you remember were most likely his older sisters Rena and Nellie.

Mitzi, A distant cousin wrote to me recently and here is what he said, "Back in the 1800's, 3 brothers & 2 sisters left Germany for the US. John, Frank & Tom Vardeman. After our forefathers reached the US, the came to Mississippi for a while & then to Alabama. While thre, they learned if they would come to TX, the state would give each brother 180 acres to settle there. So they loaded the wagons & came to Nacogdoches." The line in my family is thru Tom (my great-great-grandfather).

I hope this helps.
Karen Aizenshtat

Dear Family, The romoval of remains from the cemetery will take several more weeks, weather allowing. The University of Kentucky is preparing the remains for collection of foresical data, possible DNA data, etc. According to Shawn Phillips, project manager, this is a unprecidented study never conducted in Kentucky before. The opportunity to study several identified generations from such an early time period is a rare opportunity. Will visiting the dig last week we also viewed the new cemetery site. I believe it will work very nicely as it should still be on original Vardeman land grants and overlook the Cedar Creek valley and their homestead site. The homestead site is also scheduled for complete archeological digging. Some of the remains will have complete facial reconstruction work done, so that we may see what Morgan Vardeman and possibly his wife Polly looked like. We are discussing a rededication service in two years once the remains are completely studied and put back to rest. The new cemetery will honour the exact positioning of the original remains. Please contact me for additional information.

I would like any information on Prudence Vardeman listed on, I believe the Shelby Co. KY 1810 Census. I believe it was her dau. who married Lewis Marshall in Bourbon Co. KY June 8, 1789. They had a dau., Prudence Marshall who married John Smith in Limestone Co. AL about 1830. Prdence and John Smith had a son, Jonathan Smith who m. Lucinda Jeffreys and they had a dau., my grandmother, Prudence Elizabeth Smith who m.Jasper Newton Morphis in AR. My Lewis Marshall was the son of a preacher, William Marshall so maybe Lewis married Prudence Vardeman the dau of a preacher, just speculating. Vardeman 14-9-1854

Elizabeth Vardeman filed for a Confederate pension claiming to have been married to John B. Vardeman, but was denied.
