I am replying to a message 9 years old, so who knows if there will be a response? I am looking for information about HARRIET VARDY of Port aux Basques, who married ISADORE CHIASSON. My ancestor Cecillia Alice Chiasson was their daughter, born 1882.

ummm... My Grandmother was Ann Vardy.. and she Married my grandfather Archibald Greene.. She came from an outport in newfourndland known as fox island.. i think it was around ramea.. my grandfather comes from a place called our harbour.. both places no longer exist.. all the family now lives in Port aux Basques, Newfoundland where i grew up.. infromation on my family would be very very appriciated

If anyone has been in touch by the name of Tony Vardy of Cudworth, Barnsley, Yorks that is Vincent Vardy's son and as far as my father knows he believes that George vardy B1943? still living in the Chesterfield area.

Yes I have found a link.

I have George Vardy 1875-1954 born in North Wingfield Derbyshire and a coal miner. He married Lily Fletcher 1894 and I only have two children Ann (1897) and George Clifford (1899-1972) - I presume the other children were born after 1900.

His father, George (1844-?) was born in Alfreton Derbyshire and was also a coal miner. He married Rebecca Ward 19 November 1867 but already had two children by then. He had 10 children in all.

His father Charles (1811-<1871)was born in Blackwell Derbyshire, again a coal miner. He married Ann Gaskin 20 January 1834 in Alfreton. He had 9 children.

His father James (1779-1839) was born in Blackwell and married Jane Nailor 25 Feb 1799. He had 8 children.

His father George (1748-1825) was your and my 5xgreat grandfather (making us 6th cousins). He married Hannah Bryan 23 Feb 1769 at Blackwell an dthey had 10 children. Hannah died in Jan 1798 and George married Judith Robey on 22 October that year and had one further child with her.

His father William arrived in Sutton in Ashfield c1738 with his wife Elizabeth. They had 5 children. George died in April 1757 in Sutton in Ashfield.

Hannah Bryan (1743-1798) was the illegitimate daughter of Anne Bryan and John Thornley

Anne Bryan (1710-?) was the daughter of John Bryan and Anne Gent who were married 28 Nov 1703 in South Normanton.

Hope you find this useful and I would appreciate you letting me know if this fits with what you have. I will add your information to my database.

George Vardy married Rebbecca (sorry i have no dates) they had a son named George b1875 and he married a Lily Fletcher b1878 in 1894 they had the following children Ann, George, Ivy, Charles, Lily, Harry b1913 (my grandad), Lizzie, Enid, Vincent and Robert.
Harry my grandad married Lucy Taylor and they had Rita, Jenny (this is not her birth name), Irene, Kathleen, Brian b1943 (my dad),Linda and Tony.

I have a number of George Vardys that may match with your description:

George V 1893 - ? born in Pilsley Derbyshire
George V 1895-1938 born in Clay Cross Derbyshire
George V 1888 - 1953 born in North Wingfield Derbyshire
Geroge V 1882-1967 born in somercotes Derbyshire (alfreton)
George V 1894 - ? born in sutton in ashfield
George Cyril V 1894-1979 born in Norton (Matlock)
George H V 1892-1967 born in Huthwaite (Sutton in Ashfield)
George James Parker V 1880-1950 born in Clay Cross

If any of these seem a likely match I would be interested, or if you have any more information that can narrow this down. I believe I have collected all Vardys (up to 1900) descended from William Vardy (c1710-1757) who arrived in Sutton in Ashfield (I think from Sheffield) in c1738/9. I have not yet come across any Vardy from the north Midlands who is not descended from William. If we have a match I can provide you with as much information as you like and it would certainly be useful to have another check on my data.

I'm wondering if your grandfather was the William Vardy of Clarenville whose second wife was Margaret (Maggie) Collins (maiden name Corcoran, I believe). If I'm not mistaken, this William Vardy was born in 1885 and died in 1974.

While looking for information on another posting I came across this reference to VARDY in a collections of CD's from the Latter Day Saints:

805 Enniscorthy No. 1, Wexford FHL Film 101208

The LDS website is www.familysearch.org and many times has different information than the CD.

The dates for the Civil Registration are after 1864 so I haven't looked for any more information on the CD but will do so if you want.

My grandmother was Liddie(Lydia Ruby Martin ) born to Mary Alice Vardy and George Wesley Martin. They married in Bancroft. Mary Alice Vardy's parents were Job Lingham Vardy and Lydia Marie Way. My grandmother married Adam Henry Dean son of Adam Acker Dean and Nellie May Haggarty of Hungerford, Hastings Ontario. Does anyone know the Francis Martin and Mary Freeman that were the parents of George Wesley Martin. My Adam Henry Dean was born 1899 and he had five children with Lydia Ruby.I live in Ottawa and my Dad is in Toronto.

Talking of dark skin - it must be about 30 yrs that I met a ' MAJOR Vardy ' an elderly man and although we couldn't find a link between us, he like me was very slightly darker skinned and thought that there was an Ethopian back ground. Interesting food for thought or should I say research.

Great to find some more ancestors. I don't have access to my family tree at the moment (the computer crashed and the back up file is at a cousins) but will be happy to share what i know once I get all the details together again.

Does anyone have any tales regarding the Vardys having dark skin and hair? My family tale is that there is Spanish blood in there somewhere, but I've never found it!

I too am a relative new member of researchers and I am also related to George Vardy & Hannah Bryan, my line is from there son, again a George Vardy b 1783 and Hannah Smedley b 1794,their son George b 1828 and Anne b ?their son Walter b 1852 and Elizabeth Sophia Jane Allwood m 13.8.1872, their son Albert b 1889 and Hannah Jane Wilson b 1888. their son Cyril b 1914 married Barbara Jean Holt b 1921 m 1941, their eldest son was me John born 1943.

I am interested in my father's side of my family. We have researched tthe Vardy connection in my mother's side of the family. I have those records.
Dad was Sherwood Vardy. His father was Elijah Gordon Vardy. (Gordon)
Mother was Francis Reid. Passed away when dad was a baby.
Brother's were Cecil, and Steward. (Older) and a half brother Rodney (Younger).

That's amazing. I have only ever heard of 2 other people who spell their name with an "O" and one of those was on the Ricki Lake show (!)

I'm a Hollis by marriage though, but its quite spooky. My brother recently emigrated to Australia as well!

My side of the roworth family lived originally in Lenton Nottinghamshire England.

two brothers Everit and ? moved to leicestershire. They set up a bicycle business. Not known where.

One of the brothers was my grandfathers, father, Frederick roworth. Born in the parish of St margrets. leicestershire.

I really don't have a lot of information about Ann Roworth as this is a side twig of my tree at best. All that I have is that she was baptised 18th Oct 1835 in Bingham, and that she married in 1855. She appears to have had 14 children.

I have had this information passed on to me and have not personally checked it - so if she appears to be one of your Roworths I'd double check all the details.

I have lots of other info on the Vardy`s such as biographies and parish registers and also a letter which states that the researcher thinks the Vardy`s originated in Wakefield but I have not looked into this yet. My maiden name was Vardy. I'm new to family history and have just discovered these message boards.
From my own investigation and particularly the help of existing research by relatives I can trace the family back to common relatives - George Vardy & Hannah Bryan. Our line is from their son, Joseph b.1786 who married Ann Bonsal, their son, William b.1830, was my gg grandfather.

I'd be interested to compare notes but not sure how this works!

We are researching our Grandfather, Charles Bearfield - his father was Della? We find her listed as Helen Della in the 1920 Census with Abe and John H, Charles A and Elsia P listed as step children. We can find no records to verify her last name was Knepp. Could you help us close the gaps?

I do have Albert E Vardy on my database. Parents Walter Vardy (b 1852) and Elizabeth Sophia Jane Alwood married 13.8.1872 North Wingfield Derbyshire.

Walter's parents were George Vardy(1828- ) and Anne

George's parents were George Vardy (1783- ) and Hannah Smedley (1794- ). George (snr) fought in the peninsula wars in the Coldstream Guards and was wounded at Talavera. George and Hannah were my 4xgreat grandparents.

George(snr)'s parents were George Vardy(1748-1825) and Hannah Bryan(1743-1798)

George's parents William and Elizabeth died in 1757 and 1803 respectively.

I have an Arthur Vardy baptised 20 August 1848 in North Wingfield Derbyshire who disappeared from UK censuses between 1861 and 1871. According to the 1920 US census, your Arthur Vardy was 71 (correct age for my Arthur) and emigrated in 1870 (which would fit with my Arthur being missing from the 1871 UK census.

The ancestors of my Arthur Vardy were as follows:

Francis Vardy bap. 31.1.1819 Alfreton Derbys
and
Hannah Gascoigne bap 7.9.1820 South Normanton Derbys
married 25.3.1844 Alfreton Derbys

Francis Vardy's parents were:
Joseph Vardy born c1780 Alfreton Derbys
and
Sarah Woodger born c 1781
married 26.11.1801 Alfreton Derbys

Joseph's parents were:
William Vardy baptised 10.6.1739 Sutton in Ashfield Nottinghamshire buried 30.3.1816 Alfreton Derbys aged 75
and
Alice Todd born 1742 Sutton in Ashfield, buried 3.9.1832 aged 90 Alfreton Derbys
married 13.6.1769 Selston, Nottinghamshire

William's parents were:
William Vardy and Elizabeth, William was buried 28.4.1757 in Sutton in Ashfield and Elizabeth was buried 29.12.1803 in Alfreton Derbys.

William and Elizabeth were my 6xg grandparents.

My 4xgreat grandfather , George Vardy, (1783 - b1851)was in the Coldstream Guards during the Napoleonic Wars. On his discharge papers he is described as five feet eight inches in height, dark hair, dark eyes, dark complexion, by Trade a Framework Knitter.

He was born in Yetminster, Dorset on the 29/07/1849, son of William Vardy and Louisa Read. Left England as a stowaway on a ship called the Juliet and sailed to Melbourne, Australia on or around 1866. He settled in Gippsland in Victoria and started the Australian branch of the family. I am looking for any information on Alfred Thomas Vardy and his family connections in Dorset, also any information on the ship Juliet, he stowed away on.
