Heres my reason for looking for Bonnie,

She was my great Aunt and I was wondering were
she is since her divorce from Fletcher.
Fletcher was my great uncle. Did your grandmother
mention a son. I was told that Bonnie and Fletcher
all so had a son.

I just think it's the ingrained problem for all researchers when someone just seems to drop off the radar. No particular fascination other than to answer the age-old question, "What ever happened to...". I am specifically looking for information about whether she remarried, where she eventually settled, and when she passed away. I hope I'm not rubbing anyone the wrong way with my curiosity. She just had such a unique name that I thought finding her would be an easier task than what it has been.

Got a sneaking suspicion that Pearl Ann Looney was the second wife of Samuel Franklin (not Fletcher) Varney after the death of his first wife Roxie Chafin. Both Samuel and Pearl passed away in Vansant, Virginia. Think this puzzle is solved. On to the next question. Has anyone ever figured out what happened to Bonnie Dymple Starr Varney?

I'm basing it on this obit I stumbled across....

Clyde D. Varney

KEEN MOUNTAIN, Va. -- Clyde D. Inc., parent company of WNRG. He was a member of Garden Baptist Church in Oakwood, where he taught the men's Sunday school class. He was a graduate of Hurley High School.
Surviving are his wife, Charlotte H. Varney; two sons, Jason Varney of Keen Mountain and Christopher C. The body will be taken to the church at 3 p.m.
Sunday, where a song service will be held at 6:30 p.m.
Burial will be in Mountain Valley Memorial Park in Big Rock, Va.
Mr. Varney was also preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys F. Davis and Madeline V. Mitchell; and two brothers, Victor Davis and Paul Varney.
He was a bluegrass music promoter and worked several festivals for Ralph Stanley at Mcclure, Va.
Pallbearers will be deacons of Garden Baptist Church and members of the men's Sunday school class. Box 840,
Oakwood, VA 24631 or the American Diabetes Association.
***********************************************************

Now I have to figure out exactly what set of parents to attach this Samuel Fletcher to.
Hi, I don't know why she isn't listed. She is in the 1910 census with her husband Wayne B.Curry, my grandfather. My grandfather, Wayne B. Curry is listed in the 1900 census as living in Lee, Mingo County, West Virginia. He was 16. His father Samuel Franklin Curry and his mother Pollie (Farley) Curry are listed also. It would be great if you would send me info on Nancy Jane Varney and some history on the Varney's, or anything else would be fine. Thanks.

Also list a grandson, age 9 with name that looks like Harding Bolding and a granddaughter, age 6 named Lucille Short. The spelling of these last two may be incorrect as the census record is not all that clear.

Puzzled about America Alice. I don't have her in my database and she doesn't appear on the 1900 Census with the rest of the family. With your comment that she was your grandmother, I have 100% confidence that she did exist. Could you shed some light on where she was in the 1900 cenus? Living with relatives or something of that nature? I'll try to help you any way I can with Varney info.

I'll try to track it down, but somewhere around here I have an electronic copy of Nancy Jane Varney's History of the Varney's written about 1936. There were a few errors in it but probably 90+ percent is acurate. I used her information to start my tree and took off from there. I have about 8,000 folks in the tree, mostly from the Varney and related families. Let me do some digging and I'll get back with you.

I spoke with a lady from Virginia that was a past president of the American Genealogical Society and very well regarded in genealogy circles. She said that she would try to determine where John and Elizabeth came from but the cost was $450 for ten hours of research. Since my wife is going through chemotherapy, money is a little too tight to be chasing this right now. I figure that with her credentials and the fact that she is a native Virginian, if she can't figure this puzzle out, nobody can.

I have the siblings of Alex as Roscoe Leonard, Nona J, Gracie, Clyde, John, Prudence, Frederick Robert, Hester M, and James Monroe. I have also seen a listing for a sister named Dora Lee, supposedly born in 1902. I have no facts that lead me to include her in the family. Would love to find out if she was a member of this family and what happened to her.

Thanks for the date on Andrew. I'm going to say that
Harding's last name is Bolin............. Mother is Roxie.
But we still have a major mystery. I found in VA records
marriage apps. for Roxie to a Andy Bolin, and Celia to a
Dewy Reynolds. I know that both of my Aunts remarried.
What happened to the ex's I don't know. Roxie later became
a McNabb and Celia became a Bond. Here is the mystery,
On Roxie's death bed she made a confession, Lucille is
Roxie's mother.
As for not finding Andy after the 1930 census, check for a death
certificate for 1933, or a land sell. After Andy passed away Renia
sold the land and moved. I to would like to know where he's buried.
So when I visit WV I would love to go to his cemetery.

I spoke with my wife's mother about the info i have found so far, with bits of she and her sisters can remember they said that long ago they recall their father (alex henry varney of 1922) telling stories about the name change. He said their name was pronounced differently and when they came across the waters(no one knows what waters he was speaking of) said the varne name was changed to varney long long ago. therefor I do believe the name had been changed to we know as varney.I have found who my great grandfathers were from John varney and betsy hunter. for now im just finishing the research from there, however once i finish this, i will begin the search of jim. im sorry to hear about your wife, our prayers will be with your family!!!

i've been researching alot, i have found her grandfather father and his father. so far i've dated back to 1820 Francis Franklin Varney who is the father of james mitchell varney, father of William Henry Varney and William is Alex Henry Varney's father (her grandfather). very confusing.. I have found a site that gives alot of info, however it does not name the children of william h. varney( granfathers siblings), however i haven't found out who john varney's parents were. it gets a little confusing with john varney, in my searchings i found some articles that suggest the name was either changed to/or from verner, varner, etc. confused on that aspect. however the site i've been at is http://downloads.members.tripod.com/llrunyon/family00063.htm

maybe this will help you as well
