I want to say it was around 1600 (i could be very off on the date tho) that the pope sent some people to territories in and around the peninsula of Italy as a type of governing body for the church. they were given the title Vassallo which they assumed as a last name. they were from Lombardy which is in Northern Italy near france. They went to southern Italy and the island of Malta. It is indeed a very important last name in Malta. When I was there a few years ago it felt like every other person i met was a vassallo.

The origin of the name is Lombard. All Italian, Sicilian and Maltese Vassallos are either related or associated to the family e.g as freed slaves of the family taking its name. For a good history of the name look up http://www.maltagenealogy.com/libro%20d'Oro/ctp.html

Hola Elena:

Pedro Falla Vassallo

Hello
I have information regarding Angel Vassallo, came to Peru in about the year 1840 to 1850, and was accompanied by three relatives. They shop blondas and fine threads in the main square of Lima until his shop burned during a trifulca. Two of them returned to Rapallo, their place of origin but the other two remained. One traveled to Ayacucho, and another stayed in Lima and Ica, here is the case with a lady surnamed Farfan, my great-grandparents. Subsequently one of those who went back and made family in the northern part of Peru, ie Lambayeque. I now seek information about my ancestors in italy, Rapallo, where I understand there is a factory wine and vinegar Vassallo. This is all the information that I have, I hope you have luck with your search.

Not too sure about Vassallos in Canada, but my father's name was Calvin Vassallo. His mother's name was Francesca Russo and she married a Nicolo Vassallo out of Palermo, Sicily. I know that Nicolo and Francesca ended up in New York sometime in the 20's, as my father was born in 1929 and was the second of three children, I believe. I think the oldest was Nicolo Jr. and there was a daughter named Mary. All I know about this group was that Nicolo and Francesca's marriage was not looked on kindly (not sure why) which prompted them to come to leave Sicily....

Hi Debbie,
Wow! We have a lot in common. My Grandparents were Salvatore and Josephine (nee Guiseppina Gravino) Vassallo. They had 6 children (2 infants died during WWII from food poisoning) Paul, Frank, Nicolina, and Charles, my dad (nee Carmelo) b. Sept 27, 1938. That whole family moved to the USA in October of 1952 and are still living here. Two live in the Detroit, Michigan area, one lives in Annapolis, MD and my parents live on a sailboat. Right now they are in the Bahamas doing missionary work. I will ask my dad if he knows your dad or siblings. Your relatives who died in Siggiewi should be buried in the Siggiewi cemetary. My Grandparents and my Grandfather's sister are buried there in plot # 1, the first plot on the right hand side when you enter the cemetary. I was there for my grandmother's burial in Oct of 1997. I was amazed at the # of relatives that came to the funeral! It was really wonderful to meet them all. One great uncle smelled just like my Nanna and I met 3 of her sisters that were a lot like her in different ways. It was like gaining 3 more Nanna's. It was also fun to hear stories about my dad from his cousins. I keep in touch with the Axisa cousins who live in Siggiewi. I could ask them next time I write them if they know of your family and if they are related. They were very helpful with my family tree!
I hope this helps. I'm sure if we keep at it, we can find a family connection!
Kathleen

I am not aware of any relatives that went to Australia, but it is possible. My Grandfather, Salvatore Vassallo was from the town of Siggiewi, Malta, and his nickname was Pai Pai. His parents were Guiseppe Vassallo B.1869 Siggiewi and Pawla Caruana b.1859 Siggiewi. Pawla was married 3 times. The 1st marriage was to Guiseppe's brother, Salvu and they had 3 children, Kola, Marie and Guiseppe. The only male, Guiseppe, had 3 children, Carmelo, Guiseppa and Nikola. The only male, Carmelo, married Carmena Sultana and they had 5 girls and a boy, Jesmand. Those are the only male lines of Vassallos I know of that are my relations. Let me know if you find out any more information. I actually think that everyone from Malta is related in some way. My uncle lives in Maryland and has a very good friend from Malta. When I was visiting Malta, I spoke to the friend's dad and discovered that we were related!
Good luck and Best wishes

Hello, I have info that may help you, but how is your family connected to these two other individuals? Maranzano and Pinzolo were enemies and I am not aware of them being related. Maranzano, by the way, was born around 1886, not 1868. Whomever supplied the 1868 year seems to have reversed the numbers. Rick

Tienen mucha informacion mundial
Suerte..
