I was looking through my notes and I realized I have bugger-all of a source for the parents of Elizabeth VAUGHAN who married Nathaniel PRESTON in 1780 in Bedford Co, VA. Basically, a lot of hearsay and the IGI, which took its info from patron-submitted sheets.

Most people have Elizabeth's parents as William Shields VAUGHAN and Hannah CREW, married in 1750 in Charles City County, VA. Quakers, or at least Hannah's parents were. IGI gives Elizabeth's birthdate as 18 September 1755.

Thanks to Al Beard's post a few years back on the VAUGHAN list, I know there is a record for one daughter named Ann, b. 28 March 1775. Other than that, I haven't seen a source for the other children. (They have been listed in various forms, including the names James, Molly, Shields, Francis Ann, William, Benjamin, Sarah, Hannah, Shadrach, and of course Elizabeth.)

So: does anyone have a source (other than hearsay) for Elizabeth VAUGHAN who married Nathaniel PRESTON being the daughter of William Shields VAUGHAN? Does anyone have a source for William and Hannah's children other than Ann?

Obviously there is much digging to be done here, but I like to avoid reinventing the wheel whenever possible. :)

Thanks,
Shari
