The easiest way to find her father is to buy her marriage cert

FreeBMD www.freebmd.rootsweb.com gives the reference as Sep 1937 Basford 7b 540. Instructions on how to buy online from Southport are on the site.

You can then order her birth cert - the reference is
Jun 1909 Grimsby 7a 621

HTH

Hello Vause Ancestor. I too, am a descendant of a South Carolina (Vausetown) Vause. My grandmother was Nancy Bell Vause, d/o Julius Edward Vause, s/o George Washington Vause, s/o James Vause who came to SC from Kinston, NC.
I would like to communicate further on the Vause Family.
Hello, my maiden name is Vause. My father has done extensive genealogical research on the name, and traced it back to the year 1050 (approx) in the area of Normandy, and original spelling of "Vaux". He is retired military and did much of his research while stationed in Germany. He also found that there were many Vauses in the UK. Here in the US, there are not a lot of Vauses, however my father's family is from South Carolina, and there is a town called Timmonsville where there are many Vauses. In fact, there is a rural area nearby which is known as "Vause Town."

It came from normandy, in northen france. It's because the people with the surname vause lived in the valleys. Hence the name vause and it variants of spelling.

This is not a published book. It's just a little booklet that was printed up for family members. My husband's mother had it. The booklet is interesting reading as it has some family stories and memories. I have made a copy of it and will be happy to mail it to you. (Send your address to my personal email at lsgenie@aol.com).

It says in the book that John Hopewell was a widower when he married Sallie and that he was a granson of Capt. Moses Hutton. The booklet contains the will of Moses Hutton.

As far as James Machir's grave, he was buried at Wilson's Spring, a few miles from Wardensville in the eastern part of Hardy County. The family home "Caledonia", near Moorefield, burned down and was rebuilt and I think is still there and still named Caledonia.

Descendants of James Machir still live in my husband's hometown of Camdenton, MO and he is friends with them. Ann Machir, wife of Thomas Foster, and granddaughter of James Marchir, Sr. is buried in the Old Linn Creek Memorial Cemetery in Camden Co., MO.

Gene,

I too am descended from James Machir and Rebekah Inskeep so that is why I am trying to work on this problem. Their oldest daughter, Sallie, married John Hopewell. My mother's maiden name was Hopewell.

I would be very interested in seeing that booklet. Is there any way you could make a copy? How long is it? When was it published?

I recently made a trip to Hardy County and did some research. I tried to find James Machir's grave, but was unsuccessful.

I don't have much information on the Vause family. That is why I am trying to sort out who was who and work from there.

Mike
Susan was the d/o Capt. Ephraim Vause and Theodosia Heulings. Theodosia was the d/o of Jacob Heulings, Sr. and Dorothy Eves of Burlington Co., NJ. Ephraim and Theodosia were married around July 1738 at the First Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia. Do a google on Ephraim Vause. He built a fort that was attacked in 1756. Theodosia and a daughter Levice were carried off by Indians and (as far as I know) were never found. After 1760 (the last time Ephraim appears in VA records) he disappears. Some sources think he was from North or South Carolina and returned there. Don't know his parents. I descend from his son William (who married Rachel Hedges)through his daughter Jemima who married William Fox. Ephraim also had a daughter Jemima who married Jacob Sodowski/Sandusky.

Richard Vause, born Hull, England, in 1822, died Durban, Natal, 1886. He married Matilda Park in Bath in 1852 and then emigrated to Natal, where he was five times mayor of Durban and editor of the Natal Mercury.
He had six children, and I want to trace his descendants and those of his siblings. His parents were John Vause and Eleanor Wyatt. The Vause family seems to have been associated with the Isle of Axholme area of Lincolnshire, but they seem to have moved around quite a lot.
Shelagh,

My great grandfather was John Arthur Huggon b1869 who is the younger brother of Fred Huggon. I have traced the family back to about 1780. One of the problems is that the surname was Huggons one generation back. So Fred's father is John Huggons born 1833 in Goole and mother Mary Ann (Spencer). The Huggons lived in the Srelby and Goole area until John Huggons moved to Leeds and lost the "s" of the surname.

Steve

Re: Vause. history and spread.

Hello there! My name is Caitlin Vause. I live in Durban, South Africa. Im currently a law student at howard collage, and I am about a month away from turing 20. I saw your message and I just thought that I should let you know that there is a Vause family in South Africa. I find rather ironic that you have the same initials as my grand father, Michael Stanhope Vause. Sadly he died after a long battle with cancer. He had four children with Fay Vause (nee Lubbe) namely Philip, Richard, Louella and David.

Phillip died in a car accident when I about 6. But he had two chilren Chandra and Daniel Vause. I would rather not mention the mothers name - as I totally despise the woman!

Richard Michael Vause is my father. He married my mother Eileen Louise Vause, and had two children. Which would be my brother Bradley Richard Vause and I.

Louella Paye (nee Vause) is married to David Paye, and they have had two children, namely Michael and Lisa Paye.

Lastly David Vause married and divorced a woman called Monica. Im not sure of her maiden name. But she was Miss Portugal 1993 if you would like to take a look. They had two boys, Calym and Liam Vause.

I could try and find more information for you if you would like. If you could please assist me by sharing what you have learnt about other vauses from around the world, I would really appreciate it.

Another bit of information that might be of interest to you, my great, great, great grandfather (I think) was the mayer of Durban (1883-85).He was also called Richard Vause That might help you make a link somewhere on the family tree.
I have recently visited the Arran Cemetery in Wakulla Co. Fla and found the grave of Ephraim Vause b 1818who migrated from SC and settled in Wakulla Co. The cemetery is just west of Crawfordville, Fl and has many Vause graves . I posted a picture of Ephraim's grave on my webpage at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~familiesforever .
