Hmmmm....this is getting interesting! I have Ventura relatives out there in California somewhere too! My paternal aunt and uncle, Mable (Davis) and William Davis had a daughter, we called her "Aunt Gigi." She was married to John Ventura and they lived in Ca. I believe he was a fighter pilot in WWII? I know he had passed away, I don't know if she ever remarried. I think one of her sons was named John (maybe Jr? not sure) but we called him Jack.

My "Aunt Gigi's" parents, Mable (my "Aunt Mimi") and William Davis moved to California around the late 60's, early 70's? and settled in Oceanside, CA where both passed. Prior to that Aunt Mimi and Uncle Bill had owned the Skogmo's dept. store in Sleepy Eye, MN, and they lived in the apt. upstairs. She used to let me work in the store and play in the huge basement underneath when we'd go visit them during summers when I was growing up. I LOVED IT!!

One of her sons passed away a few years ago, same thing, info is in short supply but I think his name was Mike? My "Aunt Gigi," (Mrs. John Ventura) is actually my blood cousin, my father is James Lester Davis, Aunt Mimi's brother.

I sure hope we find a Ca. relation too! WAAAY to many gaps in my history, know what I mean?

I have gotten pretty far with this Ventura line, since I posted the initial query. I received birth records for two sons of Francesco Paolo Ventura and Maria Teresa Irace from Mondragone (Caserta, Campania): Oreste Annibale Cesare (b. 8 October, 1883) and Eugenio Francesco Paolo (b. 16 April, 1882). A daughter, Adela Rosa Candida (b. 13 May, 1878), was born in Sparanise (Caserta, Campania), and a second daughter, Elisa (d. 1 April, 1905), died in Teano (Caserta, Campania). It turns out that Francesco Paolo was a Carabiniere (state policeman), which is why the family apparently moved around. Francesco Paolo Ventura (b. 16 October, 1841) was born in Candela (Foggia, Capitanata) and was the son of Gaetano Ventura (b. 24 November, 1819, Foggia, Foggia, Capitanata) and Teresa Clementa d'Antonio (b. 23 May, 1824, Candela). Maria Teresa Irace (b. 30 September, 1849, Candela, Foggia, Capitanata) was the daughter of Luca Irace (b. 29 July, 1814, Candela) and Emilia Carolina Lupo (b. 4 October, 1814, Candela). So, the towns this Ventura line was associated with were Foggia and Candela (both currently in Puglia).

Hi saw your post, my grandfather Antonio Babeo originally Antonio Ventura came through ellis island 1911. I was told he is from Catanzaro Calabria Italy. His father is Vencenzo Ventura and mother is Anna Gamber.

My grand father Valerio Ventura was born in Penjamillo Michoacan in the 1800's. If you Google La Peidad Michoacan. Penjamillo is southeast when you find Penjamillo go west until you find Zamora where my Father Jesus was borne 1894. I new at least 2 Venturas from Penjamillo but I lost track of them.

I do not know if this what you are looking for. There was a Clayton Ventura that was born in the Bronx and died in New Windsor. He was the son of Rudolph (John) Ventura and Hazel Sawyer. He had 4 brothers, only two remained in New York state. Hope this helps.

I have found a Marianna Ventura (the t isn't crossed, but I don't know what else it can be, and that's how the Ellis Island folks catalogued her as well) that came over from Messina on the Neustria in 1902. She was 36, making her born circa 1865.

She traveled with my great grandparents and my great great grandparents, who were coming to visit their brother/sons (respectively) Giovanni and Pasquale Zappala. Marianna listed Giovanni Zappala as her cousin. Also on board going to visit their cousins Giovanni and Pasquale were Agostino Sicari and Ignazio Crimi.

This is new connection for me, and I'm interested in finding out more.

I am writing from California, USA. Our "Ventura" family name goes back to my great grandfather Giuseppe Ventura born on June 21, 1885 in Alcamo, Trapani, Sicily. I cannot locate in records of his birth confirming the names of his parents or anything past them. He married Francesca Calvarusa sometime around 1913 I think and immigrated to the US approximately around 1920. Sound familiar to anyone? I have read your posts concerning the Ventura family. I posted once before telling the unique story of my family. My great grandfather was Giuseppe Ventura born in Alcamo, Sicily. He came to America fleeing the mob. He had all his children under the name Ventura except one. He changed his name to Pirrone, so we don't know if the name was originally Ventura or Pirrone. However, recently I was DNA tested for the national genographic project. I was found to be haplogroup J2 (M172). Most of my identical matches were Ashkenazi Jews and some Cohens at that. They are from Italy, Poland, Bulgaria, Latvia, etc. Through this testing I feel it is obvious that we are related to the Ashkenazi, and thus makes me think that with my story the name was really Ventura now and not Pirrone. All my cousins and uncles are Venturas. Any info or help about this you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

In 1904 and in 1906, three siblings; Eugenio (b. 1882), Orestes (b. 1883), and Elvira (1889) Ventura immigrated through New York and settled in Pittsburgh, PA. They were the children of Francesco Ventura and Teresa Irace. I am trying to figure out where in either Foggia or Caserta they were born. We have a handwritten document that states that the parents, at least, were from Candela in Foggia. However, a search of the civil records from Candela has not turned up the appropriate birth records. Family oral history suggests that the three siblings may have been born somewhere in Caserta, in part because their father was a career military officer and in part because of family resistance to the parents' marriage. Their immigration records indicate that Eugenio had lived in Teano, Caserta, prior to immigrating, but Orestes and Elvira had lived in Mondragone, Caserta. Is anyone familar with the civil records called "cittadinanze". Would these records indicate the birth place of someone who moved to a town from elsewhere in Italy? Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
