Hi Sandy

All the Vernals of Paisley, Renfrew and Glasgow seem to sten from Francis Vernal (Varnell) and Janet Somervell who fl 1780s with sons Francis, Hew, James and John. John m Caherine Livingston and had a large family in the 1810s/20s including Francis, Neil, John, Dugald, William, Janet and Christina. Christina m William Dykes at Inchinnan and is my 3xgreat grandmother. There are traces of other lines from the other sons of Francis and Janet but I've not worked them out. The spellings are tricky which makes it harder to search but it's pretty clear that everyone with a Vernal from the parishes above is connected.

family history

Hello
Are you aomehow connected to the Vernal family or is your spouse ? My father is W. Shirley Vernal, but I'm not sure how much of the family history he knows. His sister Grace started many long years ago looking into it, but didn't get very far. I'm not sure if her daughter Louise is carring on. I do know she started looking into the family, but I don't know how far she got. I would really like to know a lot more than I know, but I can't seem to find out much, except for the fact that the Vernal's came down from Nova Scotia around Evengline's time. I don't know how true that is, but that's what I was told a few years ago.
Wish there were more Vernal's looking for other Vernal's.
You may email me direct if you wish claire@pe.net

My father is Shirley. Do you know anything about a Vernal that is an actor ? I was at a movie a number of years ago and the lead actor was Chuck Norris. There was a Vernal listed in the actor credits, and I've not been able to find out anything about him. I was told when I was young that there was one brother of Oliver that ran off to Cuba or one of those other islands and no one in the family can find anything about him. How about you ? Do you know anything about that brother ?
