I decided to ask for board with this surname because I know that relatives of my ancestors moved to U.S. in late 19th century. I'm from the Czech Republic - this surname is originally Czech and there still live about 400 people with this surname here.
I hope to find some descendants of this people who live nowadays in U.S. And I also hope to help some people in U.S. to find their relatives in CZ.

Blanka

Hi Nancy,
I'm sorry I wasn't here for quite long time.. Here is part of my family tree of Vetrovec's family - http://claricia.quash.cz/rodokmen/trees/rodina_002.html

You mentioned Darilek, which is quite far away from location where my family lived and lives, but it's possible that Catherine Jirele and Joseph Vetrovec met somewhere else.
Family Jirele still lives in location near to Darilek - I found them in phone book. Maybe it would be good to try to contact them.

Maybe if you have some more information about Joseph Vetrovec we could find more.

03jan2005 23:14:08 nice to meet you nicholas. we are promptly sending you a reply without much information, just so that you know we received your email. thankx so much for writing. we have many pages of information; some of which you may already have if you have gotten a copy of lorretta van boven's published information on the vetrovec geneaology in her family. evidently, my grandfather was a brother to her grandfather. she is reported to be published on the ancestry.com site. we have not found it yet. a friend wrote and sent me a copy of great-grandmother's death certificate and later send me parts of lorretta's vetrovec side of the family. we finally got a copy of my grandfather's service records with dates. we located him in the 1920 census (i think it was). my uncle (john marsh) and us are trying to get a headstone for his grave-he is buried in cleveland, ohio. grandfather vetrovec's birth and death and marriage certificates or records, we have not found yet. evidently he was born 09aug1881 in cleveland ohio, lived in massachusetts in between tours of duty inn the usn 1904, 1909, 1915 ans usa 1918; and died in cleveland ohio. please write us back and let us know what or how much information you know and then we can supplement it with what we have. are you a descendant of otto, or joseph, or who?? although, it seems that the vetrovec's were a big family when my grandfather was living; it seems that the people we've corresponded with are all relatives. if you will send us your snail mail address; we'll copy what pages we have and mail them to you. hoping you have a happy, healthy, prosperous new year. thankx bert and nancy.
