Hi Dee Ann,

I know this post is ten years old. I just found it during my research of Joseph Mourning Vice.

I too have encountered the same brick walls as you.  I'm hoping that in the past ten years, you have discovered all of the answers!  The following link is what I have discovered.  http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSmid=4...;

Mike...Seymour, Indiana

Hi, Iam researching information on which of Richard and Elmasa dau's married a swisher. I have a William, Mile, and Eliza that I can not seem to get the branches to fit. They are listed as Nef, Grand son, Neice in the census. I did find a Ella Vise that married a John Swisher, However, that does not match up to Mary, Manerva, or Pheobe. I hope you can help.

This is what I got from some user-submitted trees at ancestry.com (ended up in the World Family Tree project):

Moses' parents were William and Nancy Vice. Their children were Moses (1792), Rebecca (1796), Gunnell (1798), and Enoch, for whom the source says 1820, but I have my doubts about that. That would make William 54, and his wife Nancy in her late 40s at the earliest.

HTH
Max

I knwo my g-aunt knew of Moses, but couldn't remeber what part he played in he relatives. Maybe he was an uncle, but then she was born after they traveled to Nebraska, so she prob. never met him.
I'm sure sorry, but I don't have any further info on her. There is a little I can tell you that makes me wonder. Elizabeth Francis Smith nee,Vice named her daughter Amanda Margaret, so the Margaret is suspicious to me. If I could just find a list of all his children and their birth dates, it would sure help. Amandas' daughter, my g-aunt said she knew the name of Moses, but couldn't remember just who he was.Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could determine something/ Did Sarah have any Indian in her, like from Margaret? If so, what tribe? My Vice was supposedly half Indian. Darleane

Max, I believe the Moses that maried Emily, was Moses Jr. I might be wrong, but there was one listed ,on Ancestry.com as being born in a later yr than the Sr. and married to an Emily.
My Elizabeth, if family has it right, was born in 1838.

I'm sorry, but afraid I can't help you. If I listed that county, I was fishing at the time, myself, and all I have is my g-grandmother, Elizabeth Francis Vice, was born in Indian, supposedly Boone co., 1838, and married David S. Smith in 1859. I do have their wedding cert. but have no ancestry on her.

Well, I had a little digging to do, but here are my notes on Moses Vice Sr:

Moses Vice

Born in 1792 in Clark County, Kentucky

Married 08-Nov-1817 to Margaret (Peggy) Green in Bath County, Kentucky
children:
Sara Ann Vice 1822 Owingsville, Bath County, Ky
Matailda J. Vice 1823 Ky
Moses A. Vice 1825 Ky
Mahala Vice
Winey Vice
Alafair Vice
Nancy G. Vice

Married 03-Dec-1854 to Emily Plunkett in Putnam County, Indiana
children:
Jerome G. Vice 1855 Indiana
Martha Vice 1857 Indiana
Frances Marion Vice (Marion Vice) 1862 Indiana
William M. Vice 1864 Indiana
Roberthy E. Vice 1868 Indiana

Died 22-Aug-1884 in Boone County, Indiana

So I guess Elizabeth was not a child of Moses, Sr. :(

HTH
Max Jester
maxjester.geo@yahoo.com
Did you find anything more about your g-grandmother? My gg-grandmother, Sarah Vice, lived in Boone County, and came there with my ggg-grandfather, Moses Vice, from Bath County, Kentucky. Moses had 2 marriages; the first to Margaret Green, who was my ggg-grandmother. She died when they bother were about 60 (they had 7 kids), and he remarried and had 5 or 6 more, and died at about 92.

I'm thinking that your g-grandmother might be my gg-grandmother's younger sister

Hmmm - I didn't keep close notes on Moses Jr because he is not a direct ancestor. But I known that on a couple of the census forms, he is on the same page as his father - they lived on adjoining farms or across the road or some such. Let me just look into the 1860 census page - ah! Yes they are on the same page (Hendricks County at this time) and Moses Jr's wife's name is Martha, and Moses Sr's wife is Emily.

HTH
Max
I believe your John Vise may match my John Vise. I am really hoping you have some information on his decendants so that I can verify that. Reuben's son Lesel (Leslie) is the father of my husband's great grandfather Lesel (Leslie).
