You have a lot more info than I do. #10. Eugenia Broadway married to George R. Vickery is my great-grand father. I have a good bit of info on the Vickery side and none on the Broadway side. My direct e-mail address is ssexton@webbeley.com if you will give me your direct e-mail address I will gladly exchange the info. with you. I've not used the ancestry.com much and the files I have are fairly large. Thanks

I know nothing about Mary D Vickery w/ Dtr M J b. 1855 other than what is on the 1860 census. M J is my grandmother Melissa Jane Vickery POLK who had the picture of Mary D And Sallie Vickery. Malissa's father was UNK Jefferies.
Sallie Vickery is listed as head of household on 1860 census w/children female M.E, b 1851, female, M E b. 1854, and male G. W. or E. W b. 1857 all born in Al except Mary D. living at Mt Willing, Lowndes, later Crenshaw Co Al in 1860. Lucinda Vickery 35 yo b.1825 SC is a neighbor living with the Kowks/Rowles family and a Julian Morgan. Then I found the picture of them. Surely there is an obit in the Crenshaw Co Al paper because of Mary's advanced age at death. And also for Sallie Vickery b. 1834 d. 114yo in 1948.
I show a Levi Vickery in Hart Co Ga at the appropriate time for Mary D....
Vic Vickery sent me his Vickery info. Have you corresponded with him? It mentions the obit for Mary Elizabeth that you mentioned. I can send you his attachment if you will contact me at offsite at:
connie.dennis@yahoo.com
as I don't think attachments will be accepted on this website.
Thanks for your response
Connie

I wish I could place her. My Mary Elizabeth Vickery Skipper Sigler died in Phenix City, Alabama in 1905. The obituary states she was 94 but I believe she was 84 which corresponds to the age given in the 1900 census. The obituary states her only sibling survivors are Jim Vickery and Miss Sallie Vickery of Crenshaw Co., Alabama. Who else is in the household(s) in the 1870 Lowndes Co. census? Do you know anything else about Sallie Vickery and Mary D. Vickery? Is Vickery their maiden name or married name? Unfortunately Mary and Sarah/Sallie are such common names it makes tracing them even more difficult. I will go through my records and look for Sabra Melvina Skipper. That name should be easier!!!

I was thrown for a second when I saw "Edith", but I eventually realized your grandmother was "Aunt Wynomie" to my Dad and all the rest of us in Rossie's bunch. We had never known her to go by anything but Wynoma. She was a dear lady and had visited my parents, Alton and Mary Sheffield, in Daytona Beach, FL on a few occasions over the years with my grandmother. I recall meeting your dad once when my dad and I had driven up to visit your grandmother in SC. That was maybe 15 years ago by now.

We should exchange data on our respective branches. I'll have to wait a bit, though as I'm having computer issues right now and can't get to all my information. They just had the annual Mashburn reunion two weeks or so ago, which my parents attended. (We have a Sheffield reunion next month too.. it's that time of year.)

Glenn

I just joined this service. I believe that I am a direct male descendant of Hezekiah, but I'm not a genealogy expert (family word-of-mouth has me descending from Marmaduke Vickery, and that is compatible with what I have found on this site). I will consider the Y-DNA test, but it is kind of expensive for someone who is not really that into this as a hobby. I'll keep a note to myself on this, though, and let you know if I ever go for it (perhaps when the tests come down further in price).

I have not established a connection; however, I have seen Benjamin in the census records and also I might have some information in some of my Merritt folders that I have collected over the years. I will not be able to get them for a couple of weeks; however, I will look and see what I may have collected in my years of research. I'm sure that they were probably related; however, I have not been able to establish the connection. Also there was a Stephen Merritt in Pickens County.

I am not related to Wm. Hightower Vickery; however, I noticed that you research the Merritt Family. My father was a Merritt. My grandfather was
Miles McDuffie Merritt who married Estelle Orr
son of Joseph Mattison Merrit and Emily Beeco
son of Lucy Merrit
daughter of Obediah Merritt. I hope we might have some ancestors in the Merritt line. They lived in the nothern part of Anderson County. Many are buried at Siloam Baptist Church and Bethseda Methodist Church in what is now known as Powdersville, S. C.

Are your Merritts connected to the Merritts of old Merrittsville in Greenville Co, SC? I am connected to Wheaton Merritt (1774-1877) and his father Benjamin Merritt both of Merrittsville. There were a lot of Hightowers in this area also but from a different line than my Hightowers.

Ricky

Found: Eliza Vickery Eldridge photo among other relations

Yesterday I travelled to a great antique shop in Duncan, Oklahoma to look for old photos...my newest hobby. I always try to find ones with writing on the back to help me identify the persons in it and the family it belongs to. Then I spend the day searching the heck out of the internet and ancestry.com trying to find the right family to return the photos to.

Well, yesterday I hit a little jackpot of sorts. 10 photos that all have the same handwriting on the back in the same blue ink. Here's a little about each:

1. Mother & Young Toddler
Photographer: Bacon 254 East Main St Rochester, N.Y.
On Back: "Delia Eldridge and son Roy 1892"
I believe this to be Della D. ? born 1868 NY and her son Roy Clark Eldridge.
She married Eugene Eldridge b. 1859 NY.
Children: Roswell M b. 1886, Paul R. b. 1887, Roy Clark b. 1892, and Madeline b. 1899.

2. Husband seated & holding bible, Wife standing
Photographer: Morrison, Artist, Fillmore. (this is in NY)
On Back: "Clark Josiah Tanner Crandall Eldridge and Eliza Eldridge about 1895"
I believe this to be Clark (all those middle names) Eldridge born Aug 1848 died Apr 1915 and his 2nd wife Eliza Vickery born 1860 died 1950.
Children: Everett Eugene Eldridge b. 1884 d. 1973 (m. Edna Merritt, children: Lois Fiegl, Elsie Jean Perry, & Margaret Fishic), and Myrtie Frances Eldridge b. 1900 (m. Russell Ostrum).

3. Baby in Christening Gown
Photographer: Bacon 254 East Main St Rochester, N.Y.
At Bottom of Front: "Bessie Eldridge 1893"
I don't have any clue to her relation.

4. Lady with interesting necklace
Photographer: none listed
On Back: "Cora Locke Lyons"
I believe this to be Cora Locke born 1872 NY.
She's the daughter of William Locke & Sarah ?.
Siblings: Fred b. 1874, Hattie b. 1875 (m. Miles R. Cartwright, children: Wilbur E. b. 1905, Everett M. b. 1907)
She married James Lyons b. 1869 NY.
Children: Juanita Lyons b. 1900.

5. Lady with pearl chocker and earrings
Photographer: Brewer's Art Studios, Belfast, Fillmore, and Rusford, N.Y.
On Back: "Hattie Locke-Cartwright"
I believe this to be Hattie Locke sister to Cora listed above.

6. Young Man with top button buttoned
Photographer: none listed
On Back: "George McEwan"
I don't have any clue to his relation.

7. Young Man with pin on lapel
Photographer: Hewitt Union Block, Nunda, N.Y.
On Back: "Herbert Lee about 17yrs old about 1893"
I believe this to be Herbert Lee son of Benjamin Lee & Mary E. ?. He was born 1876 NY but is shown in Salisaw, Oklahoma in 1880 on census.
Siblings: James Lee (father of Clifford Lee b. 1898).

8. Toddler in gown sitting on fancy seat
Photographer: C.C. Hewitt, Mt. Morris, N.Y.
On Back: "Clifford Lee about 1899"
I believe this to be Clifford Lee son of James Lee and nephew of Herbert Lee as listed above.

9. Older Lady
Photographer: none listed
On Back: "Lizzie Lee Schutt"
I don't have any clue to her relation.

10. Lady with ornate gown
Photographer: From WM. Mables, Art Gallery, Canaseraga, N.Y.
On Back: "Lizzie Lee Schutt 1890"
I don't have any clue to her relation except that she is the same as photo 9.

Although I couldn't make connections between the different surnames I still think they are connected in some way since the same person wrote on all of them. I couldn't trace any good leds to live descendants nor could I find an active member on ancestry.com through the family trees. Hopefully someone will read this and genuinely be connected to at least a few of these photos. I'd love to find the family that has connections to them all....the lady who lost them to begin with would be great. But I know that isn't likely.

If you think you are related, please reply here or shoot me an email at avigailsmommy@yahoo.com
I can email copies if requested.

~Amber Harkins

Hello, I am the daughter of james and geneva crane. My grandmother was lilly maude vickery. Her husband was John Walker Vickery son of Joseph Oliver Vickery and Martha Frances Adcock. Joseph Olivers Parents were
Thomas G and Ann Neill. I am trying to find out who Thomas G.(Green) Vickerys parents were. I think Kiziah Entrekin was Thomas Greens mother. I have found some records about their family in a coweta co history book. I would like to share what I have and find out what info you may have that I don't. Thanks, Sulla Wilson

Yes, same family all right. James Lafayette Mashburn & Melissa Savannah Croom Mashburn were my g-grandparents. From which of their children do you descend?

Did you have or know of a gg-Aunt Rossie (Sheffield)? She was their eldest child and my grandmother. She died in 2003 at age 95.

Anyway, I think I had gotten some information regarding the Vickery ancestry back when I started the thread. It's been a while since I've looked at it but I'll be happy to share whatever I have if you are interested. Same goes for Mashburn data.

Take care cousin,
Glenn

Thomas Green Vickery was the son of Thomas Vicker b. bef 1795 and Kezia Entrekin. Kezia was the daughter of Thomas Entrekin and Mary Cannon. Thomas was the son of John Entrekin and Elizabeth Millwee.

I'm also a descendant of this line.

Lem Guthery
