Linda

An ALL site for research in Slovakia:
www.iabsi.com/gen/public
It is all in pronounciation.
The English Y is a J sound in Slovak. Your VIDA in English would be written as VAJDA in Slovak. Some in US could have changed the name to WAJDA for a much better Slovak sound of VAJDA.
I would like to see the photo if that is okay. I can see that I am a year behind in your message, I am just getting started on VIDA research. My husbands fathers family is from Romainia and Hungary. I have some old photos as well, with Romanian writing on the back. Ambrose Vida was born in 1891 his wife was Anna Lemini/Lemmene. She was from Hungary born 1895.

I can not find anything on the names of his siblings. He came to the US in 1904 from Austria.
Thanks! Jill

Hi
I was glad someone finally answered. If you are willing to give me your email address, I can send you the photo email, its too large to scan the entire thing but I will get as many of the faces as I can. This is a very old photo. It appears to be early 1900's. It needs some restoration. I would like to find the owners, I was able to obtain some old family photos of mine from someone on the internet who bought them at an auction and I know how pleased I was to get them.
Sincerely Betty

I have come across what may be an old baptism certificate and an old family photo which I would like to give back to the family. The last name is Vida. I don't know what language it is written in but this is what it says: Pamiatka Prve'ho Sva'teho Prijimania
under this it says: ktore' prijal and there is a persons name here. The next line says: v kostole and there is a persons name here. Then there is a date and a Rev. name and after his name is the word: Duchovny. I also have a photo of three young people. The young man is in the center and on each side of him is a young lady, one with her hand on his shoulder and the other has her hand on his arm. If anyone can identify these, I will be more than happy to send them to you. Betty

Looking for information on Andrew Vida (could be spelled Wajda) married Frances Catherine Zeglin. They had a daughter Anna, who was born August 5, 1882 in Cike, Poland. Anna entered to the U.S. in New York on March 7, 1902 on the SS Omeha. She was married on May 2, 1902 to Joseph Mazur in Mt. Pleasant Township, Westmoreland County, PA. I believe the spelling of her last name was changed from Wajda to Vida. Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated.
