Vie surname

There aren't that many Vies in St. L, so there probably is a connection. Alfred Vie, born in Hull, England, who married Mary Dunn, from Edinburgh, Scotland, in St. L.; children: Emma, Alice, Fanny, Bertha, Oliver, Grace, Archibald, and Mable. Oliver was killed in action in Soissons, France, during WWI; Archie was a victim of post-traumatic stress syndrome and hospitalized in Danville, Ill., until he died. Grace married David Ashton, and was my grandmother's mother. I understand there was a Frederick Vie also killed during WWI who was a cousin. Any of these in your ties? We have letters written by Oliver during his training and from the front. And photos of Grace Vie and her parents.
Happy to meet you,
Les

Hey, pleased to hear from you, too. The Vies have been the most difficult to track down of our lines. As you noticed in my previous post, our part of the Vies ended with Oliver and Archie, the only male members of the family. Grace Vie married David Ashton, had all daughters, so we lost the Ashtons with that lot; daughter Corinne Ashton married Ivan Griffith; they had three children, of whom my mother, Mary Naomi Griffith, was one; she married James Lopez (there went the Griffiths)and I'm one of those; but the Lopezes are going fast, too. Wish we could keep those long trains of names like in the old days.
I'll get back to St. L one day and find some more out there.
glad to meetcha,
Les

Margie,
Sorry I take so long. Alfred was from Hull, England, came with his brother William to St. Louis. Children were Emma, Bertha, Oliver, Archibald, Grace (my Vie), Alice, and Mabel. Oliver was killed in WWI, along with a cousin Fred and maybe others of the Vies. Archie was in the war also and hospitalized with severe traumatic stress syndrome for the rest of his life in Danville, Il. Do any of these details give you a tie? Grace Vie married David Ashton, also of St. L.

I'm so excited to hear from you, Les.I don't recognize all the names off hand except remembering that there is an Alfred Vie in my family line. I do remember a Frederick Vie who was a cousin of my dad John Vie who died in the war and as a matter of fact my brother, Fred was named after him. My dad was born in St. Louis in 1927 and his parent's are Edward Vie and Margaret Killer. I also had a uncle name Lester Vie which I just found on the social security index. Ccould he be any relation to you? What was your parent's names? Do any of these names ring a bell with you? Well I'd better go for now and wait to hear from you. Thank you so much for replying to me and I look forward to hearing from you again.
Margie
