Manuel Viera - Don't know how to go about finding the right one
HELP!!!
Working on my families genealogy. Have run into a brick wall for my grandfather. Only have little bits of information to go on. Here are some facts:
Tried to get my mother's birth certificate but was told it is "restricted" and won't be released for 100 years. Yeah, unbelieveable!!! If I'm alive in 2033, it probably won't matter any more.
Found mother's death certificate & it states father is Manuel Viera.
Before my mother passed she told me we had family from Madeira. Having already gone through the rest of the family on my mom's mom side (Vera, Viera, Vierra, various spellings) are from the Azores. She also mentioned that we were part Brazilian. She never spoke of her father and all I know is that he was a little younger than my father (father born 1907) and was living in Orange County, California in 1970. Had once lived in Massachusetts. Since a lot of my mom's mother's family lives/lived in & around the New Bedford area, I'm assuming that area. I was told by a half sister of my mother that Manuel did visit when my mom was a pre-teen. That's all she knows.
They had an estranged relationship and now that I've found her birth certificate to be restricted and adding 2 & 2 with other facts, she must have been born out of wedlock.
In 1970 I remember her father calling the house trying to make amends and my father made her get off the phone. I'm assuming that he knew he was dieing and wanted to make peace before he passed.
I've run across 2 Manuel Viera's, one born 1902 & the other 1906. Both passed away in Orange, California, but how can I find out more information on these individuals? I've search through Rootsweb, Ancestry & a few other sites with no luck. I'm hoping someone has some ideas how I can find out more info or that one of his family members is aware of the birth of my mother. Her name was Melba Vera. Took her mom's name & her married name was Morin. Live in MA, short time in NY & several years in RI. Passed while living in RI.
Thank you for any help you may give.
Regards,
Michelle
