I have information on almost all Vintons in the USA and would love to hear from you. One William Vinton, I believe from the family you mentioned, the grandson , was born in Tama County , Iowa in 1853 and was married in 1878 to one Emily Dobson. I believe this is the descendant of the one you are searching for. There are about 52 years of lost information that I am still searching for on this specific line.
thank you: Frank Vinton
Montana
Hi Leon!

I recently came across a marriage notice in the Baltimore Sun, I believe, which showed John Redifer (my gr-gr-grandfather) marrying Mary Ann Thomas, the reverend being Reverend Vinton. John and Mary Ann's first son was Samuel V. Redifer. I've also seen the Vinton name in connection with Redifers. I don't have exact facts with me, since I have to access the Web at the library. Let me know if you're interested in knowing more.

JoEllen Ringhand
California
My greatgrandmother's maiden name was Vinton. She was born in England in 1888 and came to America in the early 1900s with her older brother William Vinton. Their parents were named Dorothy and William Vinton and were born in the 1850s. This is atleast what I've found, but I can't be 100% sure of it yet.

A couple of days ago someone responded to a query of mine re a new ancestress, Hannah Hale who md. Joseph Smith and I was not able to get further than Hannah for her ancestry. So when I received a response, it opened up a whole new research trail: (for starters, the surname is Heald and often written as Hale and Held). I am now trying to follow the trail of the Vinton family - I have found good tid-bits from NEHGR, and have in front of me information posted in 1931 that corrects/adds to the (original?) Vinton Memorial by Dr. John Vinton, in that John (1) Vinton and wife Ann died at New Haven 1663 and 1664 when the Court directed that the children be sent to Lynn. So: has anyone seen these court records; any idea of why the children were sent to Lynn? Apparently John spent time in Lynn before moving to New Haven, as children's births are recorded there; (when did he move to New Haven?) - who was in Lynn at the time of the parents' deaths to care for the children? What was the cause(s) of the death of the parents?

I am searching for the birth mother of my grandmother, Gertrude Vinton, born 13 June 1900 in New York. On June 14, 1900, she was brought to the New York foundling Hospital by an aunt who said the mother was very weak. She remained at the New york Foundling until October of 1902 at which time she was sent on an Orphan Train to Wisconsin. She learned of all of this when she went to get a marriage licensce in 1924. There was not a birth certificate for her in Wisconsin. Her (adoptive)mother then told her about her being adopted.
I have posted meaasge before here many times. I always post about this time because I know a lot of folks get computers for Christmas and get acquainted with the internet. Hopefully, some day, some one will come forward who is resaerching the Vinton line and have some answers for me. Thank you, Michael

lindley vinton and stallo

My grgrandmother, Josephine Caroline Carstarphen married Lindley Vinton in 1897, and then apparently moved to (then) British Guiana. I am looking for information about them. Lindley was born in Indianapolis, father was A. E. Vinton, mother T. C. Stalls ( or was it actually Stallo?). I also see, looking at the Vinton messages, that there is a Vinton-Stallo connection, which interests me as I own a few silver serving pieces that are engraved "Helene Stallo". We also had some engraved "SV", which we were told was for Sarah Vinton, although no one seemed to know who that was. Anyone have any clues?

Roswell (Boswell) Vinton m. Hannah Davis in CT, went to Miamisburg, Oh and died abt 1833. Two children: Almus Eugene and David Perrine. Both children and their re-married Mother (to Joseph Hubler, a foundryman and machinist) came to Lafayette, IN in 1841. Almus married Thresa Stello in Montgomery Cty, OH. Around 1850 he went to Indianapolis and became involved in various mfg works. David P. stayed in Lafayette and became a well known judge. I'm looking for Roswell, or Boswell's background. Think he came from Monson, MA. Do you have any background? Look forward to hearing from you. Thomas F. Moran, 760 Cardinal Dr., Lafayette, IN 47909, 765-538-2185

The Vinton Memorial has quite a bit on surname spelling changes, etc. My John Vinton is in the Vinton Memorial. He was the first to come to America named Vinton.

That relatives of Lindley Vinton would have silver engraved "Helene Stallo" is unsurprising. Helena (or maybe Helene) Stallo was his first wife, dying in 1891. She is the daughter of John Bernard Stallo, born some time between 1860 and 1863. She is a bit of a mystery.

Mia, I have some new information. The wedding announcement you shared with me a few months back is in reference to the Myrtle Vinton I was looking for. She did not marry until LATE in life. Then the guy she married -- John George McVeath -- died a couple years later. You can find him in the SSDI if you want his dates. Myrtle is actually still alive and living in Florida. Myrtle also had a brother named Robert Alfred Vinton, who moved to Ohio. I have found two of his three children (twin sons and a daughter) living near me and hope to visit them soon. One of the twins lives in Brooklyn. There was a fourth son who died in Viet Nam. Send me an e-mail and I'll give you more details.
