Re: Pauline VIOL b. 1870 Germany; m'd 1st Unknown Zink; Harvey Steere

A bit more information:
Pauline Viol had a first mge. in Germany and according to family lore, left a son behind there from that marriage. Her first husband's surname was Zink.
I am not sure she connects with the Viols of Philadelphia...the evidence is too sketchy...
She came into Ellis Island on 21 Jun 1893 aboard the H. H. Meier; in 1900 she was living/working as a cook at Wellesley College in Massachusetts. In Cambridge in 1902 she married Harvey Steere; Harvey died in 1907 in NH; In 1910 she is living in Milton, MA as a domestic for a private family (her kids are not with her); in 1920 she is living on Newhall St. in Boston w/ only her son Francis...the daughters are at Lancaster Industrial School. In 1930 I am still not sure if the Clara Steer in NJ is her or not.
I am trying to find out where/when she died as well as where in Germany she was born. Acc. to 1900 census she was born in Nov 1870. I only know her parents were George R. and Annie Viol.
Lisa

Pauline Voil b. 1870 Germany; m'd Harvey Steere

Hello, my grandmother's mother was Pauline Viol; arrived at Ellis Island 21 Jun 1893 from Bremen, Germany; in 1900 was working as a cook at Wellesley College in Wellesley, MA; m'd Harvey Steere 23 Jun 1902 in Cambridge, MA. Three known children: Annabell Clara(my grandmother), Aletha M.(found on 1920 Census with Annabell at Lancaster Industrial School), and Frank or Francis Steere. Harvey died in 1907; leaving her a widow with 3 small children. I believe she ended up in New Jersey. Middle name may have been Clara...sometimes she may have gone by the name Clara. I don't think she ever remarried...but she may have. Her parents listed on her marriage cert. were George R. Viol and Annie Viol; I believe she may have had a sister Emily and brothers Emil and Herman??? Emil and Herman were in Philadelphia. It appears Emily is living with her in Collingswood, Camden Co., NJ in 1930 (Pauline listed as "Clara Steer"). Very interested in hearing from anyone relating to this Viol family.
Lisa

Re: Re:Viol family

I am from a Viol family that came from Cappella Maggiore. I have visited this city in Italia and there are some Viol's there yet but I wasn't able to talk to any of them. One of them was very unpolite to me so I gave up trying to talk to any other.

The father of my grand-father was born in Cappellla Maggiore, I believe that in 1871, and then, in 1904 or near this year he came to Brazil. He had a son here in Brazil (among others). This son went back to Italy to find a wife, my grandmother, so she is also from Cappella. But both came back to Brazil and so all their sons and daughter were born here, as well as all the rest of the family, like me.

I was able to recover my grand-grand-father's born registry and so I was recognized by the Italians as also an Italian. So, I have double citizenship today.

I am also very interested in knowing more about the name Viol, its origin, eventual relatives, etc. I have visited also Vittorio Veneto, because it's in the way to Cappella Maggiore.

Here in Brazil, well, in my native city, Araçatuba, state of Sao Paulo, there are many Viol's, all of them of the same family, derived from Antonio Viol, my grand-grand-father.

I am so interested in my family name that I struggled for four years to manage to buy the viol.com domain :-) I also have the viol.net domain. None are for sale, of course.

William Viol

My Viol's came from Germany in 1873. William's father was August William b. January 15, 1839. Do not know who William's mother was. August William Viol married Caroline Chall in 1872 in Germany. August, Caroline and William came to US. in 1873 to Michigan. Last name was changed to Feole. August and Caroline had 9 children after coming to Mi. Last we know of William was he went to Texas and was never heard from again. Any info on my William (Viol) Feole would be appreciated. He had to be born any time after 1859 and before 1872. These Viol's came from Belschwitz, West Prussen, Germany.

Dear Jose Luiz
I have seen your message, but my father tells me there are no Viol's in Cappella Maggiore. He is from Vittorio Veneto which is approximately 6 kilometers away. There are still some Viols there. Do you have any more information about Cappella Maggiore and what you want to know.
Arianna

Dear Julie,
I live in Leeds and Manchester, England, but
my father comes from the Veneto region of
Italy which is next to Friuli, and I have
some family there. If you are looking more
specifically for Friuli, there may be
something in the Ancestory.com telphone
directories for Europe. Do you have personal
interest in the Viol name? I'm very interested to know about
the Viol name and where it comes from, and
your message really interested me.
