Re: Virchow Family

Hello,
I have a GGG grandmother Louise whose maiden name was Virchow. She was born in Pomer, Germany 1835. (Could this be the same loction where your Pommern ancestors are from?) She was married to a Gerhard Lohmann Sr. they had 16 children and they lived mostly in Wisconsin but also had lived in these other areas as well Watertown Wis.( from 1856-1862), Schakopee, Minnesota from 1862-63, then back to Watertown, Wis. 1863-87. They eventually retired in Sabetha, Kansas from 1887-1920 until their deaths. Would you have a Louise in your family tree? I am interested in finding out who the names of her parents might be. Not sure if her parents settled in Wisconsin.
Not sure if I will be able to find this messageboard again so here is my email address deannarobin@yahoo.com
Thanks, Deanna M

This census family doesn't seem to be yours, but there are enough similarities to make a relationship possible. The FamilySearch database of the 1880 Census has in Windsor, Dane Co., WI: VIRCHOW, August, 51, & wf. Lavon, 46, they & parents b. Germany. Children all b. WI: Wm., 22; Bertha, 19; Augusta, 17; August, 14; Charles, 11; Wilmina, 10; Julius, 7; & Martha, 1.

SD Births (online): August VIRCHOW & Rachel AARSTAD had Mary Thea, b. 16 Feb. 1885, Kingsbury Co., SD. [August, Jr., above, would only have been 19 in 1885.]

GLORecords.blm.gov (online): Kingsbury Co., SD, land patents: August VIRCHOW, 111-55, 12 SE; Carl VIRCHOW, 111-55, 11 NE. August later patented 111-54, in Sec. 18.

SSDI, Social Security Numbers issued in SD, VIRCHOW:
Herman (7 Apr. 1887 - Dec. 1984, last residence Lake Preston, Kingsbury, SD)
Martin (12 Aug. 1917 - 31 Mar. 1999, last residence Erwin, Kingsbury, SD)
Jane (26 Je. 1929 - 28 May 2001, Arlington, Kingsbury, SD)
Carl (10 Apr. 1893 - Mar. 1982, Bryant, Hamlin, SD)
Anton (15 Feb. 1920 - Aug. 1987, Lake Norden, Hamlin, SD)
Dorothy (9 July 1923 - 26 May 1995, Bryant, Hamlin, SD).

Perhaps obituaries would help. Death records in SD began mid-1905.
