I, too, am decended from these Carters. Enoch C. Carter m Maria Vetitoe their children were Leroy ca 1842, Polly ca 1844, James ca 1846, Sarah ca 1849, Francis ca 1855, Darthula ca 1858, Maria ca 1852. Enoch C. was a son on Enoch Carter b ca 1766 and Polly Roberts, other sibs Leroy b 1822 (who he is said to have killed) another brother believe named James and 2 girls.
I am decended from old Enoch's son William (mother Susannah Wilkerson) These people have been puzzles for me for years and am seriously seeking parents of old Enoch. Have seen on the internet several possibilities but have yet to find proof of parentage. Anyone - help!

Serena Frances Vittetoe married Isaiah Capps 30 Sep 1860 in Adair County, Missouri.

Isaiahs parents were David Kenny Capps and Permelia Ann Armstrong. I have the pedigree posted at Rootsweb dot com, if your interested in seeing it. [Do the surname/given name search then click on the database gnewso]

Does anyone know how I can get information on Joanne Vittetoe? I found her name on Ancestry . com.Walter Riley Vittetoe, Hiram and Martha's son was my grandma Evelyn Vittetoe's older brother. He was a pallbearer for my grandma' s funeral. I never knew my grandmother , but would love to get in touch with any of her realitives. I believe she went to Colorado with her brother John, after their father's death in 1903. Please contact me if you have any information.

Do you have anything on a Malinda Vittetoe who married James G. Jarnagin in Grainger County, TN. Malinda was born about 1844 from census records and died after 1880 she is listed in the 1880 census, but James is listed as a widower in the 1900 census for Roane County, TN living with his daughter Ollie. Any help would be appreciated they have been my brick wall for several years.

Thanks so much for replying to my message. I know that my great grandmother and grandfather were born in Morgan Co Indianna and later moved to Keokuk county Iowa. That is where my grandmother Eva was born. Any information you have on the Vittetoe's in Iowa I would be interested in.

TN Vittetoe Reunion

Rube was the son of William "Bill" David and Saphire Harrell. Bill was the son of James and Elizabeth Sellers Vittetoe.

Mamie Monroe was the daughter of Charles Carson and Paralee Beeler Monore. Charles was the son of Alex and Cordelia Vittetoe Monroe. Cordie was the daughter (or granddaughter) of William and Rebecca Shelton Vittetoe.

Juanita, do you have an estimate of the date of birth for your Eva. There was a Hiram Vittetoe in TN who was born about 1818 but I don't have any of his wives as a Martha. He lived in Grainger County for a while and then around the Chattanooga, TN, Georgia area. None of his children match the names you gave for your Eva's siblings. I have files on several different lines of Vittetow families, some that moved west to MO, IO, Idaho and other western towns. If you can give me some dates, I might be better able to help you.

Steve, Would be very interested in your vittetoe information in Iowa. I have been searching for information on my grandma's family. Her name was Evalyn {Eva Vittetoe. I think her dad's name was Hiram and her mom's name was Martha. Her mom died in child birth. She was buried in Harper Iowa or that is where she passed away. She married Earl Laird in Greely Colorado. My grand mother passed away at a very early age , leaving 3 children. Donald, llwelwyn, and Lealand. Earl had gone to Oregan and never came back. She had lots of siblings. I am looking for information on my grandmother,Evalyn{Eva}Vittetoe. I know that their family was from around the Sigourney,Iowa area. Her dad's name was H.C.Vittetoe and I believe her mom's name was Martha Ellen. Her mom die giving birth and left my great grand father to raise the children. He also passed away at a very young age,April 5th 1903. Her siblings names were ,Jas B,Blance,Odessa, John C. Walter R ,Hiram T. Odessa married a Hollingsworth.My grand mother married my grandfather,Earl Laird, on Dec. 20th,1909 in Greely, Colorado, weld county. They were from Nunn Colorado.Witnesses were Ethyl Eastlack and Earnest Laird.They had 4 chidren, Lealand, LLwellyn, Donald Forrest,{my father] and a younger child that passed away. At what age I don't know. My grand mother passed away very young, my dad was ony 12 years old. Until recently when my mother passed away I had never even seen a picture of my grand mother Laird. I knew she was buried around Ollie Iowa. I have a picture of my dad and Lealand standing in a cemetery, at a grave site, with a lady, but I don't have a clue who it is. She Passed away in Mt. Pleasant Iowa.I have several pictures of her. I recently visited Sigourney Iowa and tried to find some information on her family. She must be in an umarked grave. But I think we found her Mother's grave in Bethel cemetery. I also pulled up a news paper articale on a Vittetoe family reunion, that was held at the Amana Holiday Inn on Sun. April 25th 2004, Sister Marie Vittetoe spoke on family history. I would love to know if this is part of my family. I am coming back to Iowa in Oct. and my brother ,sister and are planning another trip to Sigourney to see if we can locate some of her relatives.I would love to know more about her life. I have a lot of family trees of Vittetoe's out of Granger Co. Tenn to Missouri. I also have a tree of Vittetoe's from Indiana to Iowa. I am not aware of a Roose Vittetoe. I will be happy to share information.

Hasn't been any activity in a while, so I thought I'd start something. In re to Steven Stokeley descendants, I have that Cyrene Frances Vittetoe married Isaiah Capps in 1860. Was this in MO, and do you know who Isaiah's parents were? Also have Wm. Proctor married to Eliza Finley Capps. Same questions, where did they marry and do you have her parents?

If you look at there first names they are all
angelizied. Most likely they came from British
Isles, Northern Europe, Etc. You do not see any of
them with first names of Piero, Guesieppe, Etc.
highly unlikely they come from Italy unless it was
in the 1600's and they were assimilated with early
settlers.

Elizabeth Needham Sept 5, 1837. He was from Granger
Co. Tn. According to what I know of Tn. The town she
was from is in Granger Co. Good posibility he is

Home page. Should be five generations there.
Right now I am trying to find out brothers and
sisters and parents of Thomas Vittetoe who was the
the Father of Steven S. Vittetoe. Think he was Married
at Pulaski, Ky to Susannah Dodson. All Vittetoes
that came from Granger Co. Tenn are related.
I went to Granger Co. Tenn three yrs ago but all
the graveyards are little private ones and could
not locate all of them that time. If you have any

First let me say that I am Don Yarber. The above name and e-mail address belong to my wife. My e-mail is donyarber@earthlink.net.

I have reason to believe that Sarah Merritt married Nick Wagner ca. 1865 and lived in Union County, KY. I have a marriage license where they were married in Shawneetown, IL.
Their daughter, Anna Waggener (Wagner) married G.W. Sprague. They were my g-grandparents.

I know there were several Merritts and Vittitoes in Union County ca. 1850-1890. There are still families here. I do not know for sure that the Sarah Merritt who is the daughter of John Meritt and Sarah Vittitoe is my great great grandmother, but the age certainly fits and census records in Kentucky show that she was born in Tennessee.

If anyone has proof that this is the same Sarah, please e-mail me.
