Hello my name is michael,my grand father is John Vladyka, i am just starting to trace my family history from my mums side.John was born in the Chec republic and now lives is Australia. He has a sister who is Victoria and she still lives in the Chec Republic. If you have any information regarding the Vladyka history i would like to hear from you.

I'm a descendant of Joseph Fladiger b. 1878 in Chicago, IL. Have recently discovered papers that suggest his "real" surname was Vladyka.

His father was Frank and mother Elizabeth (Lizzie) Haus. I'm wondering if maybe Frank remarried and had more children?

Joseph is in the 1900 census in Chicago living alone as a boarder and I can't find his parents anywhere.

Just throwing out my bit that I know in case it rings a bell with someone.

Hello everyone - I very well might have burst through my biggest brick wall today and it's led right here to the surname Vladika/Vladyka.

You see, my grandmother's surname was Fladiger and it's been notoriously hard to trace, ending with her father Joseph (b. 1878, Chicago; d. 1944, Michigan City, IN). I knew Joe's father was Frank and his mother was Elizabeth (House or Harn), but that was it. Searches were turning up nothing about Frank & Elizabeth.

Today I gave the Illinois State Archives Marriage database another try and I found this:

VLADIKA, FRANK HAUS, LIZZIE 05/08/1872 077/ 00002855 COOK

This is SO plausible, it's making me giddy! I'm off to do some more searching, but thought I'd post this hear just in case anyone can fill me in on the family.

Do any of you have Frank in your records? When I find more birth and death info, I'll post it.

I'm seeing that most Vladika's in the census are from Czechoslovakia... very cool.

I have Joseph Vladyka is one of my ancestors but no match for your Vladyka in my database. However, I don't have any info on any siblings of Joseph or ancestors prior to Joseph b. 1853 lived in Turnov, Východoceský Kraj, Czech Rep. Vladyka does not appear to be a common name so eventually we may have a match.
