Hi Lisa
Thanks for getting in touch. I think I may have met your grandmother but knew her as aunt Ett. I think she was living in Belvedere/ Woolwich area of south London. I have also been going through some old photos given to me by my aunty Vera and have one of Ett and a couple of John and Louise Voaden. I could e mail them to you if you would like copies. My e mail address is dem.other@homecall.co.uk. It would be nice to keep in touch and I would be interested in seeing the family tree that our cousin Julie sent you and sharing any other info about the family. I live in Derbyshire where are you? Look forward to hearing from you again.
All the best
Dawn

My grandmother was Ellen Voaden born 1902 to John and Maria ( although she called herself Louisa!) my Nan died in 1980. I have visited Bratton Clovelly and our cousin Julie sent me a family tree. Interestingly although my Name is Lisa, guess what?! My middle name is Dawn!!!

Best wishes

Lisa

Hi Julie
Have just discovered this thread. My Great Great Grandfather was Stephen Voaden born in Bratton Clovelly 1830.My maternal grandmother was born Florence Sarah Lillian Voaden born 27/5/1900. Her father was John Edward Webb Voaden( m Maria Louise Stringer).Interestingly he also had a brother called George H Webb Voaden.John's father was Stephen and his mother Mary Adams Webb. It wasn't until I obtained a copy of their marriage certificate that I found Stephen was a widower so it all fits in with your info about Rebecca Edwards. I had only researched back as far as Stephens parents so your info is brilliant.Through family hearsay I had heard that Stephen had been enroute to or from London when he met a woman from Devon that he married!
It appears that your great grandmother and my great grandfather were brother and sister.
Denys conntacted me last year but was unable to tell me much about my branch of the Voadens.
Best Wishes
Dawn
Nellie Violet Vodden born 1898, Lambeth, Surrey, England

Nellie Violet Vodden was a witness at a Great Aunt's wedding in London, England, in 1924. To our current knowledge Vodden is not one of our ancestral surnames. I believe that the Great Aunt named one of her two daughters after Nellie Violet Vodden. Also a Great Uncle, WW1 veteran, may have boarded with Nellie in his later years after he was widowed. (He was childless so no descendents to have any information). Thank you if you are able to shed some light on this friend of the Sayers family.

Hi, Steve:
I have been reviewing this board and found your message from Feb 27, 2007. It's not clear whether you were replying to a message of mine, but I will assume that is so.

Sorry for being late in replying. My gr grandfather was Robert Vodden b. 1825 in Beaford, Devon and my gr grandmother, Mary Dyment, was born about the same time. They emigrated to Canada about 1860. Family stories have it that they attended family reunions with Diamond families which suggests that they may have been related despite spelling variance.

I have not been able to learn much about her family.

Brockest "Brock" Vodden
hbvodden@ezlink.on.ca
Canada
hi Steve,
It's been quite a long time since I've been on this board, and unfortunatelyI don't know anything about the names Diamond or Dymond. I believe the names are associated with Brock Vodden who was replying to my original post. I think there are quite a few other posts as well but perhaps I'm confusing with another site. Perhaps you could direct a reply to Brock for more information.
I have a cousin in London England who has been a source of our family info going way back and she may know about the Diamond connection.
I'll contact her and report back here.
The more relatives we find the world becomes a whole lot smaller doesn't it?
Good luck with your search and sorry I couldn't help you.
I'll keep in touch if I do or don't find any info for you.

Jeanette
Hello Jeremy:

Sorry to take so long to respond, but after much checking with all my family tree database, I don't have any information on your Vodden line. My line comes from Devon from the St. Giles-in-the-Wood area in North Devon. If you do find a link to anywhere in the Devonshire county, let me know and we'll see if that is where our connection is.

If you wish, I can add you to our private Vodden website hosted on Ancestry.com where there are other Vodden families looking for connections with each other.

Good luck in your research.
Linda

VODDEN ONE NAME STUDY

Hi All: I am embarking on a one-name study of the surname Vodden and its variants such as: Vawden, Vowden, Vawdon, Vowdon, Voden, etc. Some of the other possibilities are Bowden, Foden or Bawden, even Baldwin; however, these are a little out of the realm of my one name study. I would be happy to hear from anyone who has any information that I could add to my database of entries. I presently have all the British Censuses and some of the US and Canadian Censuses, most of the 1837 to 1900 Civil Registration entries, the LDS IGI entries and some parish entries. I would appreciate hearing from any and all queries.
Linda J. Hauley (nee Vodden)

There is a Vinc Vodden aged 32 born Bow Devon living in Yorkshire North Riding - an ironstone miner. This looks like your grandfather. I don't think this info will shed light on his parents, but I thought you might be interested to look it up.
Regards
Ann

Hi, James. I have just started to explore our ancestry and have taken over the search that my father-in-law Fred Vodden started before he died in 2000. I don't have info regarding an Elizabeth Vodden, but John Vodden born in 1834 in Wear Gifford is my husband's gr gr grandfather. We have a birth certificate for John's son to verify that John married Elizabeth Redcliff who was born in 1836 in Monkeligh Devon. We know also, from the 1881 census that John's mother Mary was living with them at West Webbery, Alveridscott. I know it is speculation - but I wondered if your Elizabeth might be the sister of John. I am finding it difficult to get back any further than our John and Elizabeth. Hope this is useful. Best wishes Ann

At a guess your grandmothers name is Marjorie and your fathers name may be either David or Brian and I guess you also have an auntie called Christine.

Hi! I'm looking for any information on an Elizabeth Vodden, born approx 1822-1825 in Wear Giffard, Devon England. She married a John Hill, they lived in Monkleigh, Devon, and had 8 children. Mary Elizabeth b1851; William b 1853, Grace Ann b 1855,Robert b1858, Thomas b1861, James b1863, Charles b 1866 and Bessie b 1868. I have all birth registrations, have been unable to find marriage entry so am stuck. Don't have the parents names for John or Elizabeth. Anyone out there with an Elizabeth Vodden in their line?

Thanks BVodden for the info on your Elizabeth. There are certainly similar names in our trees so maybe down the line I'll find a connection. My Elizabeth was born Wear Gifford, Devon approx 1822 to 1825 (her age changes in Monkleigh census of 1861 through to 1891 inclus). I can't find her in census of 1851 as a Vodden or married to John Hill, nor can I find their marriage entry which is strange. Fun and games this genealogy! Cheers, June Patterson

Thanks Julie-this is very interesting and I will study it and get back to you. I think Bill should add this information to the Voaden book if he hasn't already. We are somewhat lackadaisical recently about our book which is too bad, and it has happened mainly since our senior members have died-Herman, Carl, Vincent and my father Norman Rundle.
Do you have a similar history or is it all with Bill?
Interesting about the vikings! Maybe we should get Bill over there to have his blood tested. I am dreaming about going back to England but don't just want a short holiday.- would like to stay for a few months.
Going now to see if I can trace your tree and digest this new information.
will keep in touch
sincerely
Jeanette
jeanette.
