Wow. You have a lot more than I do, but then, I just started. I am a direct decendent of Bernard James Healy, son of Gertrude Bertha Hoffbauer Healy, daughter od Karl (Charles) and Anna.

This website was recommended by someone on here and has been very helpful with Karl's side.

http://www.celticcousins.net/scott/hoffbauer.htm

Re: Anna Vogelbaugh-Charles Hoffbauer

Hi,
Thank You so much for writing. I really don't know if we are related and I am sending you some information on my Vogelbaugh-Vogelbach family information and perhaps you can make a connection? Please let me know if you do?

My Great Great Grandparents, Charles & Anna (Vogelbaugh-Vogelbach) Hoffbauer.

Charles Hoffbauer (Karl-Carl as named by his parents but Charles is the American name for Karl-Carl).
Born: December 18, 1842 Place: (Prussia-Germany) Leedershausen, Hartz Mountain Region Germany
Immigrated to America with parents in 1848 at the age of 6
Immigration Ship: Flavia or Flavio
Leaving Bremerhaven Germany
Arriving Ellis Island, New York-August 1848.
Immigration papers report his name as Karl.
My G.G.Grandfather choose to use the Americanized name for Karl which is Charles once they came to America. In German Karl means Charles.
Karl-Charles-Married: Anna or Annie Vogelbaugh

NOTE: May 2007
I have recently corresponded with another Vogelbaugh family member, not sure if we are related or not but she and her husband traveled to Germany and found that there is in fact NO such name German name of the spelling Vogelbaugh, that it doesn't mean anything and German names come from different meanings, such a places they lived, etc. The name which has been Americanized for our family is actually VOGELBACH, it means something about a house at the end of a stream, a bach is a stream as I remember her writing. We know that last name spellings changed a lot once people immigrated to America, weather it was their choice or census takers sounding out spellings of names not understanding peoples accents. I have found my Vogelbaugh-Vogelbach family name spelling in many different ways in my searches.
Anna was Born: abt. 1851
Place: Cincinnati, Ohio
Date of their marriage of Charles (Karl) & Anna was: April 10, 1867
Place: Scott County, Iowa
Charles (Karl-Carl) Died: January 14, 1911
Age: 63
Place: Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Buried: Woods Cemetery, Wauwatosa, Wisconsin-Civil war veteran

I do not know what became of Anna or Annie? A great Aunt said that she also died in Milwaukee, Wisconsin but I have not found any information about her death? It appears that Anna and Charles divorced when Charles was in the National Home for Disabled Veterans and she married twice after Charles, her last name changing from Hoffbauer to Armstrong to Wagoner. She had a step son named August Armstrong.

All of Charles and Anna (Vogelbaugh) Hoffbauer's children were born in Buffalo, Iowa.
Charles had lived there since 1852, his father was a brewer, Hoffbauer's Brewery, later after it succumbed to prohibition his cousin Louis used the factory to produce bottled soda and water.

First child born to Charles & Anna (Vogelbaugh) Hoffbauer was my Great Grandmother Gertrude Bertha (Hoffbauer) Healy. She was born Oct. 1868, Buffalo, Iowa.
Other children born to Charles (Karl) & Anna (Vogelbaugh) Hoffbauer were #2 Francis or Fanny born 1870 Buffalo, #3 Charles J. born 1873, Buffalo, #4 Katie M. born 1875-died young at age 18 Buffalo, #5 Virginia R.
