VOGLs in Hungary

Hi fellow VOGLs. My family immigrated to Canada from Hungary in several waves, following the Treaty of Trianon, then after the 1956 revolution. I do not speak Magyar fluently, so I cannot read many records, but I am wondering if any other VOGLs out there share my Hungarian ancestry.

Despite the VOGL name being of German origin (or, that's what they tell me!), my family can be traced back in Hungary at least several hundred years, and were most likely part of a migration into the northern mining towns after the end of either the Mongol or Turkish invasions. After that, vast intermarriage with ethnic Magyars took place, right up until my father and his siblings.

Anyway, if others share my Hungarian origin, please chime in. Thanks!

I was told that it is possible for these two names to be actually the same name. I have a Magdelina Fogl in my ancestry who was married to a Joannes Haas. The also had a daughter by the name of Fransciska born Sept 29, 1854 who married Fabian Ruff. Any information on Magdelina or Joannes would be greatly appreciated. Please contact me at shhugrbaer1967@yahoo.com. Thank you.

My gggrandmother was Margaret Kulhanek, who married Anton Hoehn and resided in Putnam County ohio. She had sisters in Michigan and one of them married a John Turnwald. Her brother in law (Henry Hoehn) married one of John Turnwald's daughter Catherine.
Margaret Kulhanek had 2 sisters, and 1 half sister, and 2 half brothers....Joseph and Jakob Kulhanek. All lived in Michigan except my gggrandmother. I am not sure of the half sisters name, or the first name of the sister who married John Dick.
I believe the half sister married Anton...the name I was given was Tony Vogi...but I bet it is Tony Vogl...which would be your Anton.
Do you have any info on the next generation Up (Their parents)? They lived and died overseas.

Just started my family tree of Vogl's - I have found a grandmother several generations back 4-5-6- with the initials A.M. last name is Gutsecin who married a Joseph Vogl and had a son Joseph born in 1809 in (Bavaria?) Germany and his son Alois Vogl was born in Bavaria. He married Amelia Clor who was my great grandmother in Huron County, MI.
Joseph Vogl of Columbus WI m. Emma Knoll

our Joseph is well documented by death certificate. B.9 Feb.1856, d.18 Sept.1934,and Buried Watertown, WI. He is the 4th of 9 children born to Franz Vogl b.1825 Bavaria Germ. d.20 Jan 1897, Columbus,Columbia Co.WI and Anna Kreutzner Vogl b.27 Aug 1826 Germ. d.11 Sep 1908.Joseph's Parents are Buried at St.Jerome's Cemetary,Columbus WI right near the entrance with a large monument. Going back another generation: Joseph Vogl's grandfather was Georg Vogl (Originally Vogel but he changed it to Vogl upon the advice of his school teacher.) Joseph's grandmother is Barbara Vogl, b. 3 Nov. 1803 d. 12 Sept 1880. These dates are from her tombstone which is still very readable, and is next to Franz and Anna's larger marker. My Mother told me that the George and Barbara Vogl were pioneers in Wisconsin and had the first Inn in Columbus. I have not been able to verify this yet, but I do have the beautiful large set of Bavarian china that they owned. I have the family group sheet of the brothers and sisters of Joseph Vogl, which was researched and compiled by Ethel Winter. The 9th child, Emma Vogl, was my Grandmother who married Joseph Adolph Pfister, President of the Bank of Sheboygan. Caroline Anna Vogl the first born m. Rudolph Georg Winter. Now you can see the Winter connection. Send your address via email if you need copies. :o)

George A. Vogl

My father "George Arthur Vogl" was born in Regensberg Germany on August 12, 1899 (I think). He was one of 13 children. They immigrated to the United States at the turn of the century - I'm not sure what date. He has a brother named Adolph and a sister named Marie who stayed in Germany. The children from his family who came to America were: Theresa, Hannah, Anna, Louis, Ollie (Alphonse?), Helen (O'Neil married name), Norbert, and three others whose names I don't know or can't remember. I believe George's father was named Adolph Vogl and George's mother was named Marie Volke. Does anyone out there know about these people?

I read the Kulhanek message board and felt maybe we have some connection somewhere down the line. There are two Anna Kulhanek's in my line that I am aware of but I can't seem to get very far back. My grandmother was Anna Viola Kulhanek whose parents were Joseph Kulhanek and Catherine Fitchell from Czech and my grandfather's sister Geogianna (Anna) married a Joseph Kulhanek--believed to be Anna Viola's brother. Any help you can provide would be appreciated greatly--been workin on this for years!

Sharli - I came across your message while searching Ancestry.com for Ira E. Bone's SS death index listing. I have an obituary with no date or newspaper name that says he d. 16 October 1990. Survivors included a daughter Shirley Vogl of Fort Lupton, CO - hence this message to you.

My sister, Janet (Weed) Bone, m. 11 January 1775 Michael D. Bone. I was just starting some research for the benefit of their children when I saw your message.

Janet loaned me the Funeral Memorial Book of Beverly Jean (Sitzman) Sipe who I believe married, first, Donald E. Bone.
Beverly was mother to Michael, Cindy, Susan, and Phillip Bone. She married, second, Glen Sipe. She d. 18 August 1977.

Since I am just beginning my research, tonight, I have only Beverly's Funeral Book, some d.o.b. info, and Ira's obit to offer you copies of. I am also sending for Ira's SS data. If you have anything you can share with me I would be happy to pay for copies & postage.

Looking forward to hearing from you,
Robyn G.
