My great grandfather is a John Vogeler. He was born 1871 in charleston WV but has migrated all over, from MO, to IO, ending up in ND during the 30's until his death. He had MANY sons and the family has branched out into every geographical area of the states. It is possible this may be the John you are looking for if the dates add up. John Vogeler was son of Andreas Johann Vogeler whom emigrated to PA with his brother August. Andreas is buried in Cuba Mo where a populus branch of the family still exists today.

They have only one child surviving (Alice). Maybe she would enjoy receiving her parents' wedding invitation. If you are interested, I could give you her address in Rolla, Missouri.

Regards
Laurie Vogler
Brisbane, Australia

Hi,

I'm researching John Vogler married to Sophia Ifft. John was born in Germany, Alsace in June 1857, came to America (not sure when) and married Sophia Ifft. They were married in western PA and had nine children. My grandfather, William R. Vogler was one of them. John died in March, 1943. They are buried in Burry's church cemetary near Ellwood City, PA, but that's about all I know. I can't trace him back. Does anyone have this line? You can email me directly if you wish.

Thanks.
Diana Voger Benoit

I had not found the census listing but I had asked my mom . Earlier she had told me that Hugo and Tina didn't have any kids but recently told athat they had adopted a daughter. Actually Hugo's wife was named Ernestine and called Tinie. My mom said she was very nice. Also I had gotten some info that there was some Schroll's in the Washington, Marshall Co. area. If you recall I had found that the parents of Joseph Vogler were Peter Vogler and Eva Schroll. Have you heard from your source overseas.

Jeannie

My mothers maiden name was Stettnisch and her mother was a Vogler . DeRoin and Dwerl bought my grandfathers farm a few years after he died. I have found in the IGI That Petrus Vogler married to Eva Schroll was born Aug 16, 1802, in Marktzeulin, Oberfranken, Bayern. She was born Feb 5, 1809 and died Jan 17,1855. There is a little dispute as to the accuracy of the IGI but it states the following children: Paulus b. Aug 8, 1835, Joseph b Mar 23, 1843, Maria Barbara b Nov 30, 1846, Gertraud b Apr 10, 1848, and Nickolas b Sept 8, 1840. They were all born in Schildeck, Unterfranken, Bayern. Maybe Rice was one of the sisters married name.

Explain again, who are Tori and William Vogler ?

Yes, I've gotten the information. Apologies for not sending it sooner. Here is the text of Walter's e-mail. Note Joseph's name was apparently J.Joseph.

Peter Vogler born in Schildeck on 19 Dec 1796 and died on 14 Sep 1850.
He was married to Eva Schroll from Oberleichtersbach.
Eva was born on 5 Feb 1809 and died on 17 Jan 1855.

After Peter Vogler`s death she married a second time:
J. Peter Simon on 3 June 1851, so only 9 months after
her first husband`s (Peter Vogler) death. Her second
husband J. Peter Simon (who was Joseph`s step-father)
was born on 16 May 1821 in Wasserlosen.

Peter Vogler and Eva Schroll had the following children:

1. Paul born 8 Aug 1835
2. Franz Adam born 4 Oct 1836
3. Antonie born 9 May 1838 married with G. Reuss from Werberg
4. Nikolaus born 8 Sep 1849
5. Joseph born 27 Mach 1843 which is your ancestor
6. Barbara born 30 Nov 1846

I have found a very interesting note in the church records:
****
J. Joseph Vogler ist 1868 mit Erlaubnis vom 01.10.1868 nach
Amerika ausgewandert.
Which means: J.J. Vogler emigrated with permission, dated
1 Oct 1868 to America
****
On this document are several seals and signatures.

I ask my son about Tori and William Vogler. Said he went to school with Fred and doesn't know very much about these two. He said that he thought one was in his twenties and the other to be older. He was positive that they are son and grandson of Dwerl but I can't say. I do know they live in Barnes and are related to the older generation. Not much help am I. Do you know Bill and Marian Rencin? I believe Bill is in some way related to the Stettnischs. His wife Marian is my first cousin, small world.
Thanks for the info about Eva Schroll. Grandmother and Anton Rice came to the Joseph Vogler family. As I've been told everything didn't work out and they later wenr or were sent to the Mike and Lena Schroll family in the Kimeo community. Mike and his brother Adam both came from Ger. I believe the Schrolls, Rices and Klozenbuchers are connected on the mothers side and I' missing about one generation. There are Schrolls and their decendents still in our community. Again thanks very much it's nice to know that there are still such helpful people in the world

I've been researching my family since I retired and I'm stumped by my grandmother Rice. Theresia b. about 1865 and her brother Anton Rice b. about 1870. Came to America about 1878-1880 after the deaths of their parents to live with the Joseph Vogler family near Barnes Ks.I have many guestions, What village was their home in Germany? Did Joseph or his wife have brothers or sisters back in the old country? I believe the Rices came from Bavaria, but we must know the village to obtain more info.
I have lived in the Greenleaf community all my life and knew Deroin and Dwerl guite well, in fact our sons went to school together. At that time it didn't seem important to ask questions. My father died in 1962 and the older generation are all gone and no answers.
Dwerls wife still live at rural Barnes: Marjorie Vogler, 1500Zenith Rd, Barnes Ks. She should have some info about tDwerl's parents.
William Vogler,113 S. East St, Barnes, Ks. the next generation.
Tori Vogler, 38 S. Center St, Barnes Ks. Another of the next generation.
Hope I haven't confused you and thanks for any help you may give me. DUANE

You've probably found this already but I have a note from the 1930 census:
Waterville, Marshall Co, Kansas - ED#37
Hugo P. Vogler head age 60 b. IL age m. 24 farmer
Eustice wife 63 b. Ger age m. 27 img 1892
Theodore Gordon gson 15 b. IA school
Augusta Winkenwade SIL** age 66 b. Ger widow img 1882

I had thought Hugo P Vogler (son of J.Joseph b 1843) never married, but Eleanor K "Nora" Vogler was apparently their child. I believe Eustice died in 1952, after Hugo, so they may have divorced.

Marilyn

I am a G-grandson of Henry, through Paul and then Elmyra.
Trying to trace our line of Voglers is not easy. I have a contact in Germany, which has been a help in tracing the family, although there are problems there, too. -Ken

My great grandmother told my mother and she relayed it on to me and I am sure you know her very very well (Bonita Rusby). If you need more info on Clemons then let me know. Hanora was born in Ireland and died in Livingston Montana. I have marriage license copies. Clemons died in a sanatarium from TB then sent to Livingston to be buried. Hanora "Nora" had a sister Rose that lived with her for sometime.

I have a question for you. Do you know where Bee Clayton is buried?

I have info regarding Clemons Behre.....Yea, !!! Someone is out there with info for me too.

Clemons had a brother. His name was John Earnest Behre. They immigrated from Bremen, Germany to Baltimore, Maryland with their mother, Caroline Hibbe on 24 May 1884.. John's name was listed as Ernst on the ships log.

John Earnest DOB 29 Jun 1878
Died 29 Jun 1940 in Salt Lake City, Utah, Utah

married 3 Dec 1900 to Hansine Maria BLUHM
Place: Salt Lake City Utah, Utah
Maria's DOB 13 Aug 1879
Place Kofborg, Tyregod, Vejle, Denmark
Died 23 Jun 1969
Place Spanish Fork, Utah, Utah

John Earnest changed the spelling of his name for reasons unknown. He left Montana and came to Utah. He served in the Sp American war. He also has his birth place listed as Cook Co. Illinois. I believe it is because his mother, Caroline, remarried to a Walter Chapman. They had other children born there and eventually ended up in Missouri. Caroline is buried in the St. Mary's cemetery in Missouri.

Caroline DOB 8 Jan 1856 Hanover Germany
Died 19 Nov 1946..Springfield, Greene Co. Illinois
Source...death cert.

I have heard the same family story about the father of Clemons and John Earnest being buried with a child in his arms. Carloine, thru the census records, states she had a total of eight children, but only five survived. Their names were listed as Dora, Walter, and Anna. All born in Illinois.

Thanks for the info.

I am SO thrilled to see your message! I have been trying to track down where in Germany that Sophia came from since she is my great great grandmother on my mother's mother's side.I am at my daughter's computer at the moment and not at home so I will save details for a later message...I have a family photo of Sophia and Daniel with their eight children...do you have it also? Our family tradition has been that Sophia came to Thomaston, Maine to serve as an au pair, possibly for a doctor...and that one or two brothers or cousins were already here.. does any of this sound familiar? Looking forward to your reply!

I knew about some of it and have visited the Maine Archives many times since we have a camp on Big Indian Lake in St. Albans which we go to several times a year. Sophia died in Dexter where she was "doctoring" at the home of the child you didn't mention...namely Aunt Kate, who married Delmont Cleveland . He ran the Exchange Hotel in Dexter. Mary (Mamie) is my great grandmother. She had a daughter named Annie (my grandmother) who had a daughter, Lois (my mother).I have Sophia's and Daniel's obits from the Presque Isle paper. I will get copies made of these and the picture and get them into the mail for you !
I just checked this relationship chart I picked up somewhere and we are "officially" third cousins!
Thanks a million for sha ring such a lengthy message AND for all the new info I gleaned from it! To answer some of your questions...No, I never met any of your "womenfolk" but would you believe that MY mother remembers going down to Aunt Annie's one summer to help take care of Katherine's children! That must have been your mother and Aunt Anna! My Mom was born in 1913 and is still going strong at 88...Katherine Ross was born Nov. 22, 1870 in Presque Isle and died feb. 4, 1947 in Dexter. I mailed the photo and a copy of the obit yesterday.. "Talk" to you soon!
Cousin Rita

Hi Cuz!
Yes, I understand your emotions entirely...I have actually cried upon receiving a picture of one of my other greatgrandparents who was in the Civil War and whom I never knew, of course. Well, chalk it up to age or whatever but I had totally forgotten that I had received info on the family of Alexander Ross and Euphemia McLeod from a genealogist in Nova Scotia with whom I was corresponding re: my McLean ancestors! I wasn't positive her info was our Alexander but your info helps me think it is...Soooo, I am sending you a copy of her letter- and I think you will be delighted- since it lists a "Christy" among their children as well! Our Daniel was "Donald"..interesting since his naturalization certificate (obtained from Houlton courthouse) says Donald! My Mom and I are wondering when your mother died...and your grandmother Katherine? Is Violette your married name? or your maiden name? I don't have the picture you talked about and would very much like to...my mother very well might know who those folks are..thanks for the offer on the Archives...I don't think of anything right now but I'm sure there will be something in the future! Wait a minute! There IS something! I was at a genealogical conference last month and the speaker gave me an idea to follow up on for Sophia! I had noticed that right below her and Daniel on the marriage intention filing page was Godfrey Fogler and Lovey Kuchen...could this be a brother or cousin? The speaker told me to look in the 1870 census for every single Fogler,Vogler, Foguelar, Vogluar, etc. in Maine and look at every actual entry to see if Godfrey and lovey were living with any of them..also to check if there was a Fred since he could be called that too. I had checked indices and could never find anything else about G and L but never thought to check all other entries...Perhaps we could get a clue on where in Germany from there. What do you think of that idea?
Take care..Rita B.

I LOVE this! If I make mistakes in this it's probably because I'm tired of shoveling! We got probably about 18-20 inches but it sure looks pretty out there! Let me try to answer a few of your comments and questions before I forget..No, I've never seen the Vogler book. I wondered wher you had seen it? The Sophia in that might be the same one I ran into at the LDS library here in Bloomfield, CT..The record was from the Maine VR Knox County Pg 151 and said:
"The following persons were born in the Thomaston Poor House, viz....John Turner, Son of So[phia Fogler, was born, Nov. 18th, 1839"...his age would be right for a Sophia born in 1812, wouldn't it? I bet the compiler of that book made a wrong connection to our Sophia...One other possible lead...At the Ct State Library in Index to N.E. Naturalization Petitions Maine, Mass., N.H., VT. roll 113 (T613(Charles)-V525Xavier) I found a John Vogler naturalized in Lincoln County 9/5/1856 boren 11/26/1828 from Bavaria. Could he possibly one of those brothers or cousins I have heard about? If so, his petition might tell a specific place in Germany. Finally...are you familiar with a project being done on the German settlers in Waldoboro?...lots of Voglers but not our Sophia according to the coordinator to whom I wrote.Oh yes, I just checked Annie Allen's death certificate copy that I have and she died of cerebral hemorhage...Take care
Cousin Rita

I AM IMPRESSED! Talk about QUICK action! You had a VERY full day, my dear cousin! Thank you for all the hard work...I have a good feeling that between the two of us we WILL figure out where Sophia came from! The professional I told you about also said that since Sophia and Godfrey were only two lines apart in the wedding intentions it likely was more than coincidental and they probably were related so that seems like our strongest lead at this point...also she said that no ships came right to Rockland/Thomaston from Europe at that time so Sophia landed likely at Boston and took another ship to Maine from there...so we would have to check Boston passenger lists..or possibly even NYC. By the way, my husband's name is Richard too...except I went the Italian route instead of French...we sure ARE a melting pot! We babysit quite a bit in Stamford and NYC(our two daughters live in those places) so I don'y always get to my email right away...but YOUR "letters" are the highlight of my day when I do! We will HAVE to get together for lunch or coffee or SOMETHING the next time I'm in Maine, which will be late Spring or early summer this year since BOTH our daughters are expecting at the end of June and we want to be here for those big events! Thanks again for ALL your work!
Cousin Rita

I'm SO glad you liked the picture! No, I have not pursued that site you mentioned...never heard of it before so GO FOR IT! Katherine was the cousin of Christine. My Aunt Carmen was the niece...the daughter of Christine's sister, Annie and granddaughter of Mary Ross. Katherine was the daughter of Annie Ross, Mary's sister." And I'm my own grandpa!"...gets a little confusing, doesn't it? Yes, I DID receive the photo you sent and took it over to my Mom's to see if she recognized anyone...the only one she thought she MIGHT recognize was the woman sitting next to Aunt Annie. My Mom thought it might be Aunt Co (Cora), one of Annie's sisters.Isn't it MADDENING when you try so hard to solve these puzzles and get NOWHERE! My mother's sister, Una, lives in Canaan, Maine and we will ask her when we see her this Spring...she's 92 and may have a better remembrance of some of these faces since she was a little older than my mother. Sorry to hear you were down with flu etc. This has been quite a winter, hasn't it?!? Take care, cuz...
Rita B.
