It is an obit that I found on an old school mates myspace. It is about her husband who has the same name that your looking for and more similar info in it. While this is sad news I hope this helps you.

Searching for information on Albina (alternate 1st names possible) Chabot Durand Voorhies and daughter, Margot. Family connections or possible connections: Chabot of Quebec (French Canada) and San Francisco Bay Area; Durand of Missouri and possibly Louisiana; Voorhies of Louisiana; Carr of Wisconsin.

Information from newspaper sources and probate record (Albina Durand Voorhies) - Albina, a shopkeeper in San Francisco, died 16 Feb 1931, victim of a widely publicized murder.

Information from 1900 Census (Albin A Durand), 1930 Census (Albina D. Voorhies and Margot Carr) and additional sources - Born: Oct 1862, Quebec; possible Jewish heritage. Immigrated: 1880 or 1887. Married: abt. 1896 to Albert Durand, born 1864, Missouri. Residence (1900 and 1930): San Francisco, California. Children: Margot born Aug 1896 in California; married Evans Carr (born 18 Aug 1897, Wisconsin; died 8 Sept 1974, San Diego, California) abt. 1927; divorced abt. 1937; died 26 July 1985, Mexico.

The latest version of the VanVoorhees database that I have does not contain that information, so please allow me to join you in your search. When I was working, a few months ago, on another unidentified Voorhies in Guernsey County, the librarian at the genealogy department of the county library was very helpful and provided the information we needed from the newspaper obituaries. If you are on the ground there near Cambridge, you might inquire, or I could try to contact her by mail or email. It would be good to identify the parentage of Anna Grace, or Grace Anna, aka Mrs. Joseph Voorhies, and her obituary just might be enlightening.

Voorhies Family in Guernsey County

Would appreciate some assistance with finding the parents of Anna Grace Voorhies Born 1878. Married Joseph A Voorhies. I am looking for the name of her parents. Cousins married cousins. I have located all the census documents but none list her parents names. The surname is spelled several different ways , so is very confusing. Any help appreciated. All the records I have found are for Richland, Stark and Guernsey County.

The information that I have suggests that the John Voorhies (1835-1900) of Michigan who married Mary Jennings was the son of Joseph Voorhies (1793-1866) and Orphia Hilton (1806-1842). I will investigate to be sure that we are talking about the same person here.

My great granddfather William C. Putman had John [E.] Voorheis of Wells Township as his witness when William married Mary Chambers in 1860 in Wells. I'm trying to determine John Voorhies' parentage as it might help me with determining William's. John married Mary M. Jennings second and a Ms. Sugden first.

Hi Mary in your last E-mail you said you were attaching a photo of Gertie and Ernest at the last reunion. I hate to admit this buttttttttttttt I am a want-to-be-computer-expert and if a photo was attached, I sure didn't see it or know how to retrieve it -- if it was their.
Gertie use to work for a man in Cambridge, and I spent a week with her. I went everyday down the alley to the candy factory where my Grandfather Ernest worked. He told me not to touch the candy, but I saw him doing it so I did. With in minutes my finger had the biggest blister I ever saw. I told Grandfather I wanted to go see Gertie, cryed all the way their and she fixed me up. I would be more than happy to pay for a print of any pictured of them. Or one of Grandma's family. I am not a close relative; I am a researcher for the VanVoorhees Association and we are in the process of editing, correcting, and expanding the VanVoorhees database prior to publishing a searchable CD adding to the information already published in the books. We are making a real effort to get it all straight which is a monumental job as you can imagine; sometimes I think that we are related to half of North America!

Dear Enid, Was thrilled when I read your message. Uncle Ernest fed me lots of candy when we visited him and Aunt Gertie.Aunt Gertrude lived just outside of Buffalo and the majority of the Voorhies clan lived between Lore City and Old Washington. We were a large extended family but very close. I am attaching a photo of Aunt Gertie and Uncle Ernest at our last family reunion where most were still iving.

Grandfather was born 1n 1878. His father was Cornelius Voorhes and his mother was Mary Ethel.Maiden name unknown. Notice the name is spelled Voorhes. They resided in Wills township Guernsey County , Ohio. The 1880 census indicatates that both sets of parents were born in West Virginia. Their is a family cemetary for greatgrandma and grandpa. However Joseph A and Anna Grace , my grandparents , are buried in Old Washington cemetary situated in Wills township , Guernsey county , Ohio. If you discover these are your family members also please let me know and I can provide you with copies of old photos.Good Luck

Hi, I am still trying to identify this Joseph Voorhies of Ohio. I have about 25 possibilities in the index. If you can give me a guess at his birthdate and a place in Ohio where he lived, that will narrow the search down considerably. Where, exactly, are these graves to which you refer? Mary was so happy to hear from you, Ernest Laughlin was my Grandfather and he married Florence Gertaude Feb 8, 1947 I was 12 years old. I love Gertaude she was the only Grandmother I knew. My Grandmother Madge passed in 1934 before I was born. My father was Everett Taylor and Mother Shirley Laughlin, we moved to California after the mines played out in Ohio. We made several trips to Ohio and Gertaude took me everywhere with her. She took me to meet her whole family it was close to Buffalo, but don't remember the name of the town. She had a lot of brothers I remember that. Never took many pictures as we didn't have a camera. And my Grandparents were going to live forever so didn't write facts about the family down. Would love anything you are willing to share. Visit their grave sites on the Old Clay Pike when ever I am in Ohio. As Ever Enid

My name is Mary Voorhies Jakubisin. My Grandfather was Joseph A.Voorhies. My grandmother was Annie Grace .Papa Joe and Mama Grace had the following children: Florence Gertrude,Ethel, Alfred, George , Mabel{deceased} Clarence, Clark and my father, John. Uncle Ernest and Aunt Gertrude did not have any children of their own, but did adopt a daughter Mary Margeret. I have several pictures of these individuals as I also have been creating a family tree for my grandchildren.

I found them in the 1930 census in Erath Co.; they were from Tennessee; have now connected them to the Van Voorhees family tree. I still have questions about the parents of Roxie Deavers, or was it Devers? And would still like to correspond with descendants.

There is a recent correction to the ancestry of William A. Voorhies of Tennessee.

William A. Voorhies, son of Isaac Garrett Voorhies and Nancy B. Walker, was born c1858 in Maury County, TN; married Carrie Eliza Irwin; their three children were Harris/Horace Voorhies, Austin Irwin Voorhies, and Carrie Pauline Voorhies. Austin Voorhies married Margaret Hardison c1914;later moved to Chicago; their son was James William Voorhies (1916-1975) who married Mary Wimbley.

Would like to contact any family members. I am not closely related, just a researcher.

(Samuel) Niles Voorhies (1830 NY-1916 IA) - mystery...

Okay you Voorhies researchers out there... another myetery at hand.

Samuel Niles Voorhies was born July 29, 1830 in NY. He married Deborah Ann Ireland supposedly in Jones County, Iowa c.1856 but do not see a record for one? He is living next to his future in-laws on the 1856 census and married and living in same Jackson township in 1860 with children. Where is the marriage record?

Then between 1880 and 1885 he disappears and never shows back up in the census prior to his wife's death yet he is shown with a shared stone in Olin Cem., IA and a death date for him of 1916.

Where did he disappear to and when did he come back, or did he for someone to know he died 1916?

Then I see they had a child born 1874 in California. When did they go out there only to return to Jones Co. for another birth in 1880? The CA birth is consistant between 1885-1920 census records for their son George O. Voorhies.

Hope someone can answer these mysteries?

In 1849, he went to California and in 1852 , returned to Ohio. In 1857, he engaged in farming. In 1864, he moved to Rock Hill and engaged in mercantile pursuits in addition to his paractice. I am looking for any information on the Van Wormer family
Violet Lorraine Usher married Norville George Van Wormer.
Violet is the sister of Myrtle Electa Usher b. Feb 20th, 1921 who married Lyle Robert Voorheis April 9th, 1939. I could go on and on about the rest of the family but I am in search for my grandfathers, Norville's (nickname Bud) father and the Van Wormer side. Norville George Van Wormer b aug 28th, 1911 his father was George Jack Van Wormer b. Jan 8th, 1905 d.Aug 21st or 25th, 1941 by gunshot wound to left shoulder.
George Jack Van Wormer was married to Henrietta Pearson b. may 14th, 1906. Gearge and Henrietta had 3 children, Norville(my grandfather), Nancy and Alice.
George Jack Van Wormer father, per death certificate, was Floyd VAn Wormer married to Helen Shappee
and then it stops! nothing.

Voorhies, Juanita A., b. 01/16/1913, d. 11/01/1987, Infantry, PVT, Plot I 0 1636, buried 11/03/1987. (SSI lists her number as issued in IL before 1951.)

Voorhies, Milton E., b. 07/20/1894, d. 08/08/1968, US Army, PVT, Plot: F 0 1431, buried 08/13/1968.

Seeking descendants and ancestors of Haskell E. Voorhies, born 27 July 1914, in Indiana, died 1 Nov 1981, buried in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.

He was a Master Sergeant in the US Army.

His SS number was issued in MI before 1951.

In the 1930 census for Indianapolis, IN:
Voorhies, Ruth, head, age 38, divorced, born IL
Haskell, son, age 15, born IN
Gerald, son, age 13, born IN
Harden, son, age 11, born IN
The boys' father was born in IN.

SSI lists Gerald H. Voorhies, b. 9 June 1916, d. 23 May 1992.

There is a marriage in Vigo County, IN, 28 June 1913, for Ruth Nichols and Harry E. Voorhies. Could be the parents.

Can't find this family of Peter and Julia Voorhies in the Van Voorhees database, but will try to help. Can you tell me how you found them in Michigan, in a census? If I can find the births of the children, that might help.

I also have Voorhies in a census, supposedly born in France, with a French wife; they were in Louisiana in 1860, then disappeared. Strange mystery!

It's always possible that some New Yorkers went to Europe.

Earle Voorhies-- obituary

With deep respect to the family, I report the following.

Earle Voorhies died August 11, 2006, at age 93, in West Covina, CA. He was a well-known classical pianist and professor of piano at California universities. His wife, Irene, predeceased him. His surviving children are Lee Fernandez of Redwood City, CA; Sarah Voorhies of Sebastopol, CA; Daven Voorhies of Houston, TX; and Coerte Voorhies of Bowie, MD.

A memorial service is planned for Sept 16, 2006, in South Pasadena, CA.

Contributions in his name can be made to the Voorhies Young Artist Guild Scholarship Fund, c/o The Music Teachers' Assn. of California, 833 Market St., Suite 900, San Francisco, CA 91403.

There is a fuller obituary in the LA Times, 19 Aug, (online).
