CHARITON, Iowa - Dwight C. Vredenburg, 88, of Chariton, Iowa, died after stroke complications on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at the Lucas County Health Center.

Funeral service is at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist with the Rev. Gary DeGeest officiating.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Fielding Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed toward Northridge Living Center, Methodist Church and Rural Health Car Advantage Hospice.

He was born on Jan. 17, 1914, in Lamoni, Iowa, to David and Kate Vredenburg. He married Ruth Taylor on April 25, 1937, in Missouri.

He worked as CEO of Hy-Vee Food Stores Inc., Chariton for 51 years. He attended First United Methodist Church in Chariton.

He was on the Chariton School Board, Graceland University Board, Indian Hills Community College Board of Directors, Aeolian singers, choir director RLDS and Methodist Church, rotary, Masons, Russell Town Band and he loved music.

He also served in the Coast Guard during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Taylor; two sons, Chuck Vredenburg of Storm Lake and John Vredenburg of Chariton; a daughter, Martha Vredenburg of Muscatine; one sister, Helen Van Der Kamp of Rock Island, Ill.; 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

I am the Great Great Grandaughter of Elizabeth Vradenburg, who married Nicol McIntyre in Bervie, Ontario. I believe they were married in Brampton, Ontario, Canada.
The Vradenburgh's were part of the United Empire Loyalist movement to Canada from the United State, the name of the State could be Pennsylvania.

I'm looking for information on Emily Gertrude CANFIELD. She was born 8 OCT 1850 in Port Eizabeth, New Jersey.
I have her decendent information but nothing about her parents & beyond. Her daughter (my grandmother) has the middle name of Vredenburgh which could possibly be her parents surname.

She was born 8 OCT 1850 in Port Eizabeth, New Jersey.
She married Armistead Mason BARRY , Sr. on 20 JUN 1888 in Springfield, Illinois.

They had 3 children:
Emily Gertrude BARRY b: 15 APR 1889 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Armistead Mason BARRY , Jr. b: 7 OCT 1890 in Minneapolis, Minnesota
Mary Vredenburgh BARRY b: 6 SEP 1892 in Minneapolis, Minnesota

My name is Teresa Pirtle, my maiden name is Vredenburg. My dad was Byron Lee Vredenburg and his father's name was also Byron (they are both buried in the cemetary in Covington). I don't know a lot of the family but would be happy to help out in any way I can. I know that my grandfather had a brother but I'm not sure what his name was. My grandpa passed away when my dad was very young (I think around 6 or 7).

I realize your query was submitted long agooooo. but if you are still doing research re Vredenburg genealogy I might have info to share with you....my lineage is to Ed Vredenburg (early school teacher) whose first wife died then he married Mrs. Ina (nee Hanks) Godsave...they moved to Michigan from Crawford county (Norrisville, PA)connections my Vredenburg genealogy include Dodge, Hanks, Ingols, and others.

If you are a descendant of Vredenburg lineage I have info to share with you....Vredenburg, probably son of Edmond of Hayfield, was a distant ancestor of my mother....connection to Godsave, Dodge, Ingols, and Hanks genealogy.

George Coberly born Nov 1, 1899 in Salina, KS was my mothers uncle. I'm trying to find more information out about that part of my family. I know that his father was John Coberly & his mother was Mattie, but that & info about his siblings is all that I have been able to find. I'm new to this, so any info would be greatly appreciated.

I found a large 16 x 36 inches or so, memorial plaque at an area antique store here in Manistee Michigan. It says; Martha J. Vredenburg died November 22, 1887 38 years 1 month 14 days. It also has a lovely poem, calling her "mother", so she obviously had a child, and overall it is quite beautiful. I've never seen anything like it. Read your message and would like to know more. When and where were your VREDENBURGS in New York. My gggrand mother was Angeline Rebecca Vredenburgh and she lived and died in New York City, NY. The spelling is different but in those days (1800s) surnames were often mispelled or changed! This surname is very rare and there might be a connection. Would like to hear from you. Hello, while going back through this Vredenburgh line, I came across your reply. Did I ever respond? I believe that you are my cousin, Lee Vredenburgh was my grandmother's brother. Our cousin, Maxine Schafer (Amy, her grandmother, was sibling to ours) recently died. I feel that she might be "helping" me now because that was our aim, find the Vredenburgh line.

No, it was Inez who married George Coberly. Eunice lived down the street from Eddie and Luella on 18th Avenue. You should ask Gladys Snethen. I'll bet she has some good info.

William VREDENBURG b c1820 OH>AR>NE>IL

William Vredenburg had a first wife by the name of Jane, who was dawing his pension as of 1880.

William married Mary Ann WILLIAMS 1845 or 1846 at Fort Smith, AR.

Apparently William either never divorced his first wife or the divorce papers were lost. Mary Ann applied to William's pension 1880 and found out that his first wife, Jane, had been drawing it.

According to vensus of William and Mary Ann's son, William was born in OH, if this is accurate.

Can anyone help me place this William VREDENBURG? The last name has been spelled many different creative ways.
