My name is Teresa Pirtle, my maiden name is Vredenburg. My dad was Byron Lee Vredenburg and his father's name was also Byron (they are both buried in the cemetary in Covington). I don't know a lot of the family but would be happy to help out in any way I can. I know that my grandfather had a brother but I'm not sure what his name was. My grandpa passed away when my dad was very young (I think around 6 or 7).

I found a large 16 x 36 inches or so, memorial plaque at an area antique store here in Manistee Michigan. It says; Martha J. Vredenburg died November 22, 1887 38 years 1 month 14 days. It also has a lovely poem, calling her "mother", so she obviously had a child, and overall it is quite beautiful. I've never seen anything like it. If any family members are interested in acquiring it, I could buy it and ship it at cost.
My GG Grandfather was Joseph H. Vredenburgh,
he was born about 1820 in NY. He married, probably
Wheatfield, Niagara, NY, Rebecca Jane McNitt.
They moved to Michigan about 1849, he is
shown on the 1850 census, not on 1860. I
would like to find his family line. I have
6 notebooks and a data base with regard to
the Vredenburgh/Vredenburg/Fredenburg family.

Oh, that's interesting. Was this family heresay?
I found this out by logical (I think I used
logic) deduction. I found him twice on the
1860 census, once in Barry Co. and again in
Eaton Co. The Joseph who died in battle was
from Eaton Co. I ordered all of the records including
his items left after death--sad! I am certain
that I have the correct information. If you found
this out through family then it verifies it.

The Vredenburghs are all, I think descended from Willem Vredenburgh who came to America, New York area on the Golden Beaver in 1643 or so and he was from holland. Actually he was a van Vredenburgh They were Barons in the old country. He was a soldier and then moved to ulster. There is a lot of information on this family and yes some changed the spelling to Fredenburgh so it could have been shortened to Fred
