Hello together´,
I don´t know to whom I correct-proves to turn is, it is already so many involved ones. I think, I found, according to which you search.

William Wachter (Wilhelm Anton Wächter)
Birth: 18 AUG 1843
Christening: About 21 AUG 1843 Katholisch, Borgholz, Westfalen, Preussen

Parents:
Father: Wilhelm Waechter
Mother: Maria Scholle

they will find him about the Link: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp

and

http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/Census/household_reco...

and in theList of Secret Emigration : http://www.kornhoff.de/
(Klick: "Ostwestfalen" and then klick: Heimliche Auswanderung aus 15 Orten (709 Personen)
But here that is wrong date of birth. It must be called correct: 18.08.1843

Therefore Wilhelm Anton Wächter emigrated 1865 to England

My father married my mother Ursula Wächter and in such a way all are called my grandfathers, until back about 1675, all Wächter

From innumerable sources I gathered the following:

Bernd Wechter
& Katharina Götten (T.v.
Hi Peter
I am Brian, Lorna's husband.
William Wachter (Wilhelm Waechter) was also my great-grandfather. My grandfather was Henry Leonard Wachter a younger brother of Rosanna.
Since Lorna's posting in 2001 I have found information about William's wife Emma (nee Smith) and have also been trying to discover more about William in Germany before he came to England. I have had some success but none of my info has yet been proven. I recently wrote to 2 people in Germany from the town where I believe William was born and am still awaiting a reply.
I would like to share information and photos etc with you, my email address is brian@graysmead.fsnet.co.uk

Look forward to hearing from you again.

Best wishes
Brian

We are trying to solve a standard genealogy problem.
Our relative, Robert Heidel (b:1852 Germany - d:1892 Pflugerville TX) came to Texas from Germany circa 1883, but we don't know anything about his parents or family. Supposedly he lived with his cousins (possibley Wachter/Wechter/???) when he first arrived in Texas, and saved money so he could send for his wife Clara (b:1853 Germany - d:1924 Coke Co., Texas) . But Clara's prayer book says Clara Mohr. Others think Clara's name was Clara Wachter. We don't know anything about her ancestors either. She came with 4 children, and then had 5 more after she arrived in Texas.
Any thoughts?

Hi Sarah
Alice Coote was my maternal grandmother and she married Henry Wachter, whose father came from Prussia mid 19C. That's the Wachter connection!
Alice was the second daughter of Walter Coote and Jemima Jeffrey and, as you say, she had several sisters most of whom didn't marry. Which one was your grandmother?
I have quite a bit of info about the family and used to visit my spinster great-aunts who all lived in what I believe was originally Walter and Jemima's family home in Wethersfield.
My cousin has the old family bible which lists all the children's births.
I have also corresponded regularly with a 'cousin' in Australia whose grandmother was Hannah Coote and also with two other 'cousins' in the UK who have Coote/Jeffrey connections.

It would be nice to extend the 'family circle' so am very interested in your family connections and would be willing to pass on mine. Perhaps we could exchange email addresses.

Brian

Obit for Adolph A Wachter (1840 – 1918)

From Sheboygan (Wisconsin) Press dated Wednesday, November 27,1918

Prominent Falls Man Passed Away Tuesday Evening

A. A. Wachter, a well known and respected citizen of Sheboygan Falls, passed away yesterday evening at 5 o’clock. He was born Nov. 1, 1840, in Guestebriese, Brandenburg, Germany, and came with his parents to this country in 1852. At the time of his death he had attained the age of 78 years and 26 days.
In 1862 he enlisted in the U. S. army and served his country’s cause two years and ten months. He was a member of Co. I, 27th regiment, Wisconsin volunteers. He participated in the siege of Vicksburg and witnesses its capitalization. On Dec. 20, 1865, he received his honorable discharge.
Mr. Wachter was married to Miss A. S. Fiedler of St. Paul, Minn., in 1868, this union was blessed with eight children. His wife preceded him in death a little over four years ago.
Prior to the opening of a general store, the deceased was a mason contractor erecting some of the buildings in Sheboygan Falls and vicinity. Mr. Wachter retired from business January 1, 1899, turning all affairs over to his two sons, Charles and Adolph, the business now being successfully conducted under the name of Wachter Bros.
Decedent always took an active interest in civil affairs, being president of Sheboygan Falls when it still was a village and twice assessor. He was a faithful and active member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran church, when the congregation decided on a new edifice, Mr. Wachter was unanimously elected as a member of the building committee and superintended while the building was under construction.
He is survived by eight children, twelve grandchildren, one sister and a large circle of friends. The children are: Mrs. Ernest Roehl, Charles, Adolph and Theodore, Sheboygan Falls; Mrs. William Roehl, Manitowoc, Mrs. Ernst Fiedler, St. Paul, Minn.; Gustav, residing near Madison and Louis of Milwaukee. His sister, Mrs. Rosa Zimpleman, resides in Eagle River.
The death of Mr. Wachter removes from this life a man who enjoyed the confidence and esteem of those with whom he was acquainted. A true Christian, his worth was felt when the new edifice was erected in the Falls. Though old in years, he entered into this work with that old time vigor of youth and the happiest hour of his life was when the church was completed and dedicated.
The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the St. Paul’s Lutheran church, Rev. John Biehusen officiating. According to his wish his sons, Charles, August, Louis, Adolph, Theodore, and his son-on-law, Ernest Roehl will act as pallbearers.

From Sheboygan (Wisconsin) Press dated Monday, December 2,1918

Pioneer Laid to Rest at the Falls

The funeral services attending the burial of A. A. Wachter, were held from St. Paul’s Lutheran church, Sheboygan Falls, Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock, Rev. Biehusen officiating. The edifice was filled with friends who had gathered there to pay their final tribute of respect and esteem. It was fitting that the services should be held from this church, inasmuch as it was erected under the supervision of Mr. Wachter, who acted as chairman of the building committee and supervising architect. It was a proud day for him when the church was dedicated. Rev. Biehusen preached a sermon, glowing with words of tribute and forcibly dealing with the christian character of the deceased.

John C. and Marie L. Wachter in Wisconsin circa 1860s

I am looking for information on John Carl Wachter and his wife Marie Louise Nielitz. John, a 32-year-old carpenter from Prussia, and his 24-year-old wife arrived in New York aboard the ship “Howard” on July 9, 1856, with their 3-year-old son, (Friedrich) William. They settled in Dodge County, Wisconsin. Their daughter, Emilie Marie Wachter (born March 9, 1859) was baptized April 29, 1859, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church south of Lomira, Wisconsin. According to the 1860 federal census records for the town of Theresa, Wisconsin, Marie and her two children were living with Friedrich Wachter (John’s brother, I assume) and his wife Auguste but John is not listed in this household. By 1870 Fred and Auguste lived in the town of Lomira and John and Marie were nowhere to be found. Does anyone know what happened to John Carl Wachter and his family? There is a small possibility that they ended up in Norfolk, Nebraska, around 1866.

I've just seen this message which was posted way back in 2001. You've probably got your information by now but, although I can't help with info about your grandfather, Alice Coote was one of my grandmother's many sisters, so I know a bit about that side of the family if you are at all interested.

Dear Brian,

my grandmother was Sarah, who married Frederick Colbourn and produced my mother, Nora. What a coincidence because I, too, used to visit my great aunts when we took granny down to 'The Hoods' every year for her holiday. I remember Aunts Jane (Emma), Maude, Mary and Kate very well, although Aunt Mary lived down the road and not with the others. I remember a lot of other names and am gradually beginning to slot them into the jigsaw.

I have a number of photos taken at the house in the 1960s and 1970s, as well as one of the whole family taken around the turn of the century, and would be happy to send copies to you if you are interested. You must be related to my Mum's cousin Norah Haldane who, I have just discovered, was previously a Wachter. Mum used to send Christmas cards to her every year, but I don't think I ever met her.

I took Mum back to Wethersfield some years ago and found some of the graves in the churchyard - Walter, Jemima, William and Geoffrey, I think, and keep meaning to go again but in the meantime I would love to find out anything you know that I may not and share memories. My e-mail address is sara.wayland@virgin.net and I would love to hear from you.

Best wishes,

Sara
